You guys are slacking.

Depending on how long he's out on the market and how our QBs do injury wise during camp, I wouldn't rule it out.

Any team that has room on their roster for a 3rd string developmental QB would likely love to have him. Keep in mind he's only 24 and has never been with a "real" NFL organization.

He's certainly not going to command a big bonus. Everyone knows that he at least HAD tremendous potential 3 years ago...
There's no doubt in my mind that SOME team will sign him... if they look at him as a project and have room for that on the roster he's a low risk high reward prospect.

Although I think he'd be kept out of the limelight for a season, sitting on the bench, some team could even showcase him in meaningless preseason games in the hopes that he plays OK and a team in need of a QB might give up a draft pick for him.

He wouldn't be the first Raiders Reclamation Project that Belichick has turned around.

We really do need an azzclown area for threads like this.

There is on- The Practice Squad.

Not just no, but hell no.

Russell is easily better than Brady. Sign him now.

No way...the Head Landscaper and Excrement Removal Engineer have both been here at Foxboro for many years, are under long term contract, and are well liked by everyone. They aren't going anywhere. I have heard that there are some positions open in the "in stadium" vending needs.....but with his inability to remember audible lines, and his very deep voice....I could see tremendous difficulties in his ability to deliver the following mantra: "get your peeeeaannuuttss heeeeyahhhh".....just don't see any future for him here....

Just clarify I'm not being serious but if you thought I was :ugh: and the thread title was stolen from "Bobby Carpenter (LB) available...any interest?" :D

I try not to rule a lot of things out but.. I'm going to have to go with a big definite no with that one.

Re: JaMarcus Russell (QB) cut......any interest?

NO, PLEASE NO.

But the Bills can take him

He can help eat the leftovers at Mcd's, but other than that he is a lazy sack of . . . .

I would. BB's other raider reclaimation projects all landed here at least under the pretense of wanting to be reclaimed and wanting to win.

It's the nature of the beast that almost dictates he will get a second chance, but it won't be here. Bill will kick the tires of any hardworking, talented guy who just couldn't make it for a variety of reasons since coaching and surroundings can be the difference maker there. This kid hasn't cared since the day Al handed him his first seven figure check and committed to paying him 8 figures whether he earned it or not. And at least for the last season or so his coaches and most of his teamates have cared and have at least tried. This jackass couldn't even be shamed into caring enough to.

Someone with delusions of guru grandeur (like Reid or Chilly or Shanny or Singletary) will decide he's just the guy with just the situation to reclaim this unmotivated turd and reap the rewards... BB hasn't got the time to waste on this level of project. Football doesn't matter to JaMarcus.

Re: JaMarcus Russell (QB) cut......any interest?

Convert him to a tight end!

Oh, wait. Never mind. Wrong QB, too late.

From what I hear about his weight, he'd work better on the O-line. ;)

I say sign JaMarcus and see if they can convert him to DE? A few more pounds and he might be a good back up NT for Wilfork.

Re: JaMarcus Russell (QB) cut......any interest?

It's not that Belichick can improve him, or Brady. The kid has apparently zero desire to play, hes got his payday, and that's good enough for him despite his tremendous potential with his talent.
.

There was a rumor out there that I would like to know if it was true. Supposedly Cable game him a DVD of the game plan on how to beat the Chiefs and told him to watch it at home. The next day he asked Russell what he thought of it and Russell said he was onboard with it...unfortunately for Russell, the DVD was blank and it was the coach's way of checking to see if he was doing his homework and he was benched the next week..

That is hysterical, whether or not it's true. I think that was the underlying problem, he seemed disinclined to work on anything from conditioning to mechanics to film study, and impervious to being shamed. That's a guy who has simply cashed in and checked out. Maybe the light bulb will go on again once the money dries up. I wouldn't bank on it though.

My opinion:
What do you lose? Signing him is giving him a tryout.
Everything that is wrong with Russel is a result of immaturity. While many NFL players are mature in their early 20s, most of the rest of the world is not. The typical work ethic of a 24 year old in any line of work is shaky at best. Most eventually grow up, and most do it when the consequences hit home.
Why not give a tryout to the guy to see if he can find that maturity.
Above the neck he is the Anti-Brady. If he came here and tried to emaulate Brady above the necks, he would have a chance to realize the below the neck potential that made him the 1st pick.
I think there is a very good chance we would find out that either his desire, commitment, work ethic, maturity or intellect will still be lacking, but what do you lose?
