Wide Receiver - scouting the prospects

I hope we can land Emmanuel Sanders with a late round pick. I really like this kid since the East-West Shrine Game and his workout numbers at the combine look really good. Explosive player (look at his vertical, broad jump, 40-yard dash) with good quickness (see his 3-cone drill, 20-yard shuttle).

He is very similar to the Rams' Donnie Avery. Same build, both are very fast and quick. Both played in conference usa run & shoot offenses. To think Avery was the first WR off the board a couple years ago.

I'm seeing David Gettis listed at 6'2 in some sites and 6'4 in others. At 4.47 speed he'd be worth a look on day 3.

Hey if Avery had someone other than Bulger throwing him the ball the guy could be a very good wr.

Rich Gunnell from BC ..... productive, good route runner

probably be there in the 7th round or UDFA

Some Pro Day results for two WR prospects that have been much talked about as Pats prospects:

Mardy Gilyard - Source: Gilyard improves on 40 time at pro day | National Football Post

I just spoke with a league source who informed me that Gilyard ran a 4.44 and 4.51 in his two 40-yard-dash attempts on Wednesday—a big improvement from the 4.56 he turned in at the combine in Indianapolis at the end of February.

In addition, the wide receiver had a 38.5-inch vertical jump and ran the three-cone drill in 6.71 seconds.
Eric Decker - OLB Lawerence, WR Decker impress at Minn. Pro Day - CBSSports.com

The Lisfranc sprain kept Decker from working out for scouts at the Combine and also kept him from participating in the drills at Minnesota's Pro Day Wednesday.

He did, however, help his cause in the bench press (19 reps) and was, as always, articulate in team and media interviews. I've been told that he had the year's highest score on the Wonderlic of all players tested at the Combine and I'm not at all surprised by this.

Did he play any ST's? If not, what's your best guess? The couple of times I saw BC games this year he seemed to get open with ease; it was more about whether the ball was on target or not.

Unless someone mentioned him and I failed to do my due diligence, which is entirely possible, I feel we've overlooked Stephen Williams.

He describes his game as a cross between Fitzgerald and Moss. Immediately I rolled my eyes and said "yeah right," but after watching a few highlight videos, I don't know if he's too far off. He's not as fast as Moss, but definitely has nice wheels and incredible jumping ability. What stood out to me was his 10 yard split (1.48), and his three-cone (6.81), which are outstanding for a man his size (6'5, #210). Also, he broke Lance Moore's record for receptions, so he has pretty good hands/production. He projected to go anywhere from the 6th to undrafted. Seems very raw, but could have a lot of upside. What do you think, PatsFans--is he worth a shot?

Perhaps, except NE wasn't reported to have been at his Pro-Day...

I have he and Kyle Williams on my watch lists for Day 3 WRs.

We're at the CMU Pro-Day today, Bryan Anderson has turned in some outstanding numbers for a 6'5" white dude.

I'd grab him in round 6 or 7, and see if I could get his mate in round 5 or 6.

Joique Bell is there too, but his 40 time was awful again. Meh, he looks quicker in pads.

Oh, and Marcus Easley is apparently lighting it up at the UConn Pro-Day.

I'm getting to the point where I might be tempted to use the #53 on him a la Vollmer.

Really? I like him but I doubt if I'm willing to go that far. Perhaps if we trade back into the 3rd.

I wouldn't take him that high either, considering he's almost certainly going to have to spend some time on the Practice Squad. As a NFL receiver, he's as raw as it gets.

I like Easley but more in the 4th round or later area. Stephen Williams would be a comp pick selection if Easley is gone. I also like Andre Roberts and think he could be available in the 4th.

There's so many excellent looking receivers this year.

Emmanuel Sanders is another with potential.

I'd even be tempted to take a late flyer on Mike Williams. The guy is a massive failure of a human being right now, but with the right guidance, he could be one heck of a football player.

Mike Williams, no, Bryan Anderson, Antonio Brown, Marcus Easley anytime on Day Three - yes.
