Re: La Canfora: Pats making late push for Bodden - Texans and Steelers in it

Pats making a late push? So what else is new?
Bodden is as good as gone.

Re: La Canfora: Pats making late push for Bodden - Texans and Steelers in it

With Bodden gone, its just another need on a team with a lot of needs... Leigh bodden was the best CB on a avg secondary.. step up and keep this guy...

Re: La Canfora: Pats making late push for Bodden - Texans and Steelers in it

Really? Because they've been able to re-sign guys that were part of a 10-6 roster? If they don't re-sign them then this roster is now 8-8.

Yes (so far), because they will have re-signed Wilfork to a very reasonable deal, plus locked up the other most valuable FA (to the Pats) that is out there.

All of whom were already on the team, so I can't see how the team has gotten better, 2009 to 2010.

The Colts were in an offensive funk last offseason. They were a wildcard exit. How did they get weapons for Manning?

This is what irritates me about this FO they seem to wait till the last moment. They don't seem to do things proactively, by waiting other teams jump in and the price goes up.

No state tax in Texas...worth an extra mill in the bank

There have been reports of them negotiating with Bodden for weeks, but he wanted to test the market. Don't let the facts get in the way of your attempt to bash the front office though

Re: La Canfora: Pats making late push for Bodden - Texans and Steelers in it

Late pushes is their mo.

Why wasnt bodden signe before the open market hit. People are forgetting that this team has yet to improve this offseason and we shouldnt gush for locking up someone who should have already been locked up.

EXACTLY! I expect Bodden to be signed by another team by the end of the day. Time for a cool beer. My blood pressure is rising. :eat2:

That's not entirely fair. Teams can improve with the same personnel when the youngsters mature. 2009 was a very successful draft by most appraisals, including my own. A better Butler, Chung, Vollmer, etc. is going to improve the team standing pat as long as we also retain the core parts. So far the Pats have managed to hold onto Wilfork (huge), Neal and TBC (solid). Retaining Bodden would be very big, so that they Pats won't be forced to draft a young corner, and rely on Wilhite in a starting spot (yuck).

Re: La Canfora: Pats making late push for Bodden - Texans and Steelers in it

Why are the Pats making late pushes?

Shouldn't it be the other way around? Shouldn't they have the advantage?

It should be the Steelers and Texans making a late push, not the Pats.

and it is a whole lot cheaper to buy a house in hoston. then it is to buy one any were in new england.

Doesn't matter who was on the roster last year, they are FREE agents. Are there any teams who signed free agents yesterday that can just sit there and do absolutely nothing and expect better than 10-6? And let's not forget the Texans game was meaningless, we were really an 11-5 team. The biggest problem last year was inexperience, not lack of talent.

Well 2010 season isn't here so we won't see how they have gotten better at least for another 6 months or so. Plus experience helps from 2009 to 2010 ;)

That last statement is VERY debatable.

What if the Pats had re-signed all these guys a month ago when they could have?

Yeah that's what is happening. They are a bunch of idiots and don't try to do anything until the last minute! How is it hard to understand that a LOT of things go on behind the scenes that you'll never hear about?

Two guys who were both all but given up for gone (or disgruntled) two weeks ago. We'll have to wait until after free agency and the draft to see whether the roster was improved over 2009 or not. We have plenty of draft ammo and aren't exactly over a barrel moneywise right now.

Call me crazy, but not really losing anyone of significance yet is a good sign.
