Game over, man. Game over!

Re: La Canfora: Pats have offer on table for Peppers [Update: Rap: Pats making hard p

Yup, no one is despairing on the Patriots forum. No one, at all!

That's what makes this whole process so infuriating. Every free agent that signs brings about another wave of wailing and gnashing of teeth, followed by pronouncements of how the Patriots have failed in FA due to their failure to sign said player.

Over paid or not, it looks like our defense will again suck, with no pass rush.

Peppers was the only possible answer to our pass rush? A 4-3 DE? Geez, the whole league is screwed then...

No he wasnt, but you can put pass rush at the top of the list when it comes to the many needs the Pats have, which includes trying to keep their own players.

at this point, you can start thinking rebuild mode on the defense......with who the pats have at this point, you can't really expect them to find the players the need to fill out the defense to make a run in 2010...I'm OK with this.....the pats will beef up their offense, and they will become the chargers of the 80's

This is where the optimists, pesimits and realists will all clash I see.

Are you telling me this defense right now has what it takes to get it done? Are you telling me it's OK because a draft is coming up, (which we don't even know who Bill actually wants to pick. Imagine if we don't pick up a DE or OLB, than what?) Will the same people come here posting perspective threads, trying to bring up the past 10 years to make us feel better? Telling us we're fine and BB knows best?

Peppers is the only piece you add that you KNOW will make the pass rush instantly better in 2010. The fact that the Pats wanted Peppers alone tells you they felt they needed him, they just didn't value him as much as other teams. The NFL salary cap is growing every year to where 2 years from now, Peppers will be getting what any other good DE/OLB is getting. Remember the salary has nearly jumped up a hundred mill. from our last super bowl win.

I just think when you need a guy, you make the move. I'm not saying we get Peppers for 16 mi. a year. But an offer like this the Pats could have tried to top by a mill or so. But hey, we don't need him cuz our pass rush is awesome.

mmmmmkay...........so who?

its not like every other team is as sorely lacking regarding an outside pass rush as the pats.....

not only is adalius the best player the pats have in that spot, but he's THE ONLY PLAYER

it didn't look this bad after the 2002 season.....at least they had LB's

Who else on this market can do it half as good? So you trust rookies to come in (again, that's ASSUMING BB picks them) and do a better job than Peppers? You think they'll fix our defense? I don't think depending on rooks to fill a 10 foot hole in your team is a solid, reliable plan. But that's just me.

Good for Chicago, they had a need and fulfilled it with aggression and with an elite difference maker. And no I dont care about what they paid, thats doing what you need to do at all costs to help your team. Every team is going to overpay some of their players.

Precisely. I'm not overreacting, it's whatever. I can't control the circumstance. However I ask the same question as you. Tell me people, who can now come in and help us out?

The only guy I'm interested in is Bullock, and he damn sure isn't young.

Wait... if you're not saying that the team should be ponying up $16 million, what number did you think was reasonable for a DE trying to convert to LB at 30 years of age, and could you please provide a link to the post where you gave us that number?

You're ideas are far too short-sighted though. Overpay peppers means overpay wilfork means overpay brady means overpay the next guy and the next and then eventually means you crash and burn and have a terrible middle-roster.

They WANTED peppers at the right price. It is still only March 5th.

Schefter reported on his twitter (the link is somewhere in here, sorry I'm not into these message board dog fights enough to go dig it up) that the deal was reported at 40 mill. within the first 3 years, which averages out to just above 13 mil.

funny, were people knocking Thomas's big contract at the time when we signed him? He was 30 too wasn't he?

I am honestly baffled how you managed to divine any of that from my post.

I'm all for the Patriots signing Peppers. But it's not the end of the world if they don't. The NFL is full of teams who are wont to make ill-advised personnel decisions, and if the Bears want to pay Peppers 12+ million per, then that pretty much puts the kibosh on any intentions of the Patriots signing him because another team doing something stupid doesn't in any sense justify the Patriots following suit.

Re: La Canfora: Pats have offer on table for Peppers [Update: Rap: Pats making hard p

I wouldn't worry too much yet guys...we're 15 hours into FA. Sure the pass rush is still a hole, and even if we did sign him we would still be hurting for OLBs...
