I agree Light; I didn't see his skill diminishing.
There is a lot of teams that just do not have a startable LT, the Chiefs and Seahawks come to mind. Somebody should take the gamble that Light will be productive over a four year period, than a rookie playing over a four year contract.
OK Cousin. Here is an idea that works for us and the Seahawks in part one. The Seahawks are desperate for a LT. They also have two #1s to build their team for Pete Carroll and if they can save an O Line pick to do a trade because they have so many needs instead, great.
Light for Lofa Tatupu. Tatupu tore a chest muscle and is now well, but in his absence, David Hawthorne from TCU played very well at MLB.
Tatupu is 242/lbs and only 27 (think a younger Teddy). How about Mayo and Tatupu in the middle for many years to come? With Guyton's speed and better coverage ability, he might could be the OLB we are looking for. 4.47 Speed and 12 sacks in his two years at Georgia Tech as a starter.
Speaking of the Seahawks, perhaps a three way trade can be involved as in part two. Leinhart was Pete Carroll's QB in his last National Championship run. AZ is not enthralled with him. The Seahawks are searching for Matt Hasselbecks' younger replacement. Matt is 34 but AZ had a great run with veteran Warner. I see Hasselbeck playing a few more years and with some great tools in Breaston and Larry Fitzgerald, Matt could be better suited to run the Cardinals offense who are still a top tier team in the NFL pending FA losses, versus a rebuilding project in Seattle. But being in the same conference it is tough to trade.
OLB for the Cardinals is an issue with Okeafor (UFA), Berry (UFA) and Haggan both older than even AD who all things being equal, is still a physical presence.
How about Thomas (AD) and Matt Light for Hasselbeck and Tatupu and a player to be named later? We then trade Hasselbeck and a second rounder for Bolden and Leinhart, then as part of the Seattle deal or one or that infamous "player to be named later", send Leinhart to Seattle to bring him back with Carroll.
Summary:
Seattle gives up Tatupu, Hasselbeck and end up with Leinhart and Light.
AZ gives up Leinhart and Bolden and get Hasselbeck, AD and a second rounder.
Patriots give up Light, AD and a second rounder and get Tatupu and Bolden(we get a solid WR to compliment Moss and Welker that we desperately need and that ILB to pair with Mayo for years to come. Addition by subtraction with AD).
OK SHOOT!!!!
