Columnist: T.O.'s star has "drastically fallen"

He's also a guy with lots of people making lots of excuses for him, apparently.

Then you obviously haven't been following the game of football for very long because absolutely nobody makes excuses for T.O. In fact, the media loves to pile on him much in the same way they pile on our team.

I was talking about you primarily, but plenty of people in the media make excuses for TO. So do lots of GMs every time they sign him.

Name one thing I said about him just now that isn't true. I beg you.

Relax dude. But yeah, an excuse is not the same as an untruth.

I am relaxed. Untruth? The only thing in this thread that isn't the truth is that T.O., and T.O. alone, has cost his team games. Football is a consumate TEAM sport. Anybody that has played the game before knows it's a team sport.

So basically, when I pointed out that T.O. has had over 1,000 yards and 6 TD's in pretty much every season that he's played the game, that = me making excuses? Please explain that one to me.

TO is unfairly maligned in my opinion. Sure he creates problems for himself with his actions and words, but the media jumps all over him asap then try to put words in his mouth.

To say he isn't one of the greatest is ridiculous and makes it easy to dismiss this article as nothing more than a load of bull****.

Because it overlooks or ignores all the absolutely horrible things about him as a football player and as a teammate. It's a deflection. Sure he gets easy yards, but he ****s all over his QB, gets run from every team he's on, drops the ball way too much on 3rd down, and if you ask the 49ers and the Eagles and probably the Jerry Jones too if it's off the record, he's more of a liability than anything else. All he does is sell tickets. That's not football, that's Hollywood. Guy's a douche and he's so damned worried about looking good on the big screen he can't even' look the ball into his hands before turning his head upfield.

It's amazing that you blame his teams for failing the ultimate team cancer and not the other way around. But whatever.

i agree T.O may not be the same WR he was but the bills QB is not geting him the ball and who ever wrote this can say the same about evens who was a top 10 WR comeing in to this season and he's number's are not much better then T.O's

**** Buffalo

do not make them out to be "hero" fans. They are a joke of an organization that has failed numerous times in successive NFL Superbowls. They made it to the big stage and failed 4 times. "Ha-ha-Ha-ha"

-No points for second place.

I do not sympathize..... I ostracize that fanbase. They are a failure.
So you are saying that Buffalo fans aren't classy like you?

Actually I think it is pretty damned impressive to get to the superbowl four years in a row.

You're speaking from personal opinion like the guy has slighted you somehow. I appreciate that TO has personality clashes with people and certainly does rub them the wrong way, but time and time again all you hear is the horrible things.

Now that said, Randy Moss was a cancerous, selfish individual too was he not? That appears to have worked out pretty well so far. I'm not drawing any sort of parallel to him and Owens, but give the guy a break.

That's the what have you done for me lately mentality. Let's have a look at some of TO's notables

  • Nearly 1,000 receptions,
  • over 14,000 receiving yards,
  • over 140 touchdowns,
  • 20 receptions in 1 game = NFL record,
  • scored a touchdown against all 32 NFL teams,
  • 2nd in all time receiving yards behind Jerry Rice,
  • nine 1,000 yard seasons

Seems like a semi OK career to me ;)

I never said his ego wasn't a problem. However, you originally claimed that his play WAS. I pointed out that the guy has had over 1,000 yards and 6 TD's every year he's been in the league. Does he drop balls? Sure. But so does Randy Moss. On top of that, the production Owens' team has gotten out of him at other points during the game (such as catching 60 yard bombs for scores) overshadowed his drops the vast majority of the time. Don't try to deflect the argument to his ego (which we both agree has been the problem) when your original claim in the thread was that his play on the field has failed his teams.

As for your disbelief that I can blame his team's losses on the TEAM and not him alone, I'm not suprised.

In closing, I have had three simple points throughout this thread that you have apparently failed to understand:

1) When a football team loses a game, it's easy to point the loss at one person. However, even the most inept coach in the league will tell you that it's a team game and, when the team loses, every player at every position could have done something to have improved and helped their team win.

2) T.O.'s attitude and his megalomaniacal delusions of himself have always been the problem. Nobody will disagree there.

3) T.O.'s play on the field has never been the reason why he's played for as many teams as he's had for the simple fact that he's one of the best wide receivers of this generation.

I'd say both supporters and detractors would agree that he's a threat on the field.

Some don't mean that in a good way however.

TO played like a warrior in SB39. But I think he would have been able to achieve more in his career if he could have STFU.

It's called reaping what you sow.

Piling on a 36 year old veteran who has had a very good career ... what's up with that. T.O. is a bit different but I don't buy he's a bad guy stuff ... emotional maybe but not a bad guy.

something about Buffalo being out the race and the late season frigid cold up there just doesn't look good for TO. Talking to Bill's fan before the start of the year, he loved the fact they got TO, it took the attention away from the Bill's fans.

Different? If TO were an M&M he'd be pink.
