Re: Matt Light and a few thoughts on tonight's performance

Schobel has always owned Light.... no exception last night. Brady was real tentative which did not help. ....... and let's face it, he had 52 attempts and only 1 sack. That's not a bad number.

Probably looked worse then the stat line shows, but I think that you can say that about just about everyone last night. Except the back half of the D. They played stellar.

This is why the Pats had a 7th OL report as eligible receiver (ironically Light did I think), because of the respect they have for Schobel.

All this Light bashing is assuming that Schobel is an average DE, which he definitely is not. We only gave up one sack and I'll take that.

Re: Thoughts on the Game

On the one hand, they won the game even though they haven't "gelled" and have a lot of room for improvement.

On the other hand they were run roughshod by the hapless Bills at home and needed near miracle to win.

I don't know that it bodes really well.

Re: Matt Light and a few thoughts on tonight's performance

Light is done. Giving up a sack like that and getting spun around is inexcusable in a left tackle.

We should talk with the Bills and see if we can't trade him straight up for the guy who gave up 2 sacks to TBC, one of which came on a play he got flagged for holding.

...

We sacked Trent Edwards 4 times in 29 dropbacks and gave up 1 sack in 54 dropbacks, but reading this board the last two days have once again revealed we didn't get nearly enough pressure while our own o-line consisted mostly of turnstiles. What's it going to take to make people happy?

You been here now long and you don't know the answer to that question yet? Every play works all game, period. Every freakin' snap is life and death and if we don't win each matchup this team sucks.

Re: Matt Light and a few thoughts on tonight's performance

I am not going to bash Light because year in and year out he struggles against the same three people(schoebel, jason taylor, and dwight freeney) just get used to it. I doubt C bass unseats Light because Brady trusts Light and besides those evil three i mentioned Matt is a good pass blocker. For the past 3 years i have thought Light was not a good run blocker and i couldn't help but notice that C bass stoned his man on the one play i saw him and i cant remember Light being that physical in a long time. With all the love for C bass i wonder how Levoir will fit into this.

Back to the game. Maroney had some good runs but i dont understand why he Always tries the left side. And why is Galloway on this team. He didn't get much separation and Brady decided to just not even look his way after a while. I don't wanna hear that he was doubled crap because so was moss. Maybe Brandon Tate will replace Galloway in week 6 if he doesn't pick it up.

Re: Thoughts on the Game

The offense comments seem to be off base.

Last year "analysts" were telling us Manning was not in synch because he missed training camp. Why is everyone shocked that the offense would be out of synch with Brady coming off of major knee surgery and missing a year?

That's why the talk of blowing Buffalo out was nonsense. It's stupid to think a QB can come in after that and just pick up where he left off. Also, quite a bit of the pressure and hits came at the 5-7 second point in the play. Therefore, much of the "pressure" was the result of a rusty QB getting back into the game as "turnstile" O-lines.

How many times did he get hit in the second half?

It will probably take 4 games for TB to be back to full form.

Re: Thoughts on the Game

Like BB say :
Our team needs improvement in Defense and Offense. They will deal with the mistakes , the team is on learning phase in both sides, Defense ,offense.

I still think Nunn is superior than galloway.

Re: Thoughts on the Game

I don't care what the announcer's said about us last night! We're awesome and we now have momentum and hope on our side after winning this game! I think we definitely we have what it takes to beat those pesky Dolphins this year guys!

Re: A Few Last Thoughts

1) The offense should be fine after looking aweful for a half.

2) We now know who are #3 and #4 receivers are: Watson and Faulk.

3) I think our OL and running game will be fine.

4) We've found our returners: Maroney, Faulk and Welker (was there any doubt).

5) Our front seven played our best players against a rookie line and weak gimicky offense, and absent a bonehead gift may have lost the game, but perhaps we need to learn to believe that if the defense gives up less than 20, it is all on the offense. That approach can get us to the playoffs but not a Super Bowl win.

6) The offense just didn't score enough when they had the chance and the handed over a pick six.

BOTTOM LINE
A win without a major injury (it seems that Mayo is OK) is a great thing.

A nohuddle does no constiture a gimmicky offense it constitutes an offense that adds a gimmick. Big difference. Your description suggests the plays they run are gimmick. Really to defend a no huddle or a huddle offense is the same thing, except you get less rest.
The D allowed 1 drive in the first half, and 111 yards.
It allowed 1 TD in the second half, albeit at a critical time.
7 of those 24 were allowed by the offense.
I know you hate our defense, but if you want to have your opinion listened to be fair. If you need to exaggerated, then your viewpoint is perceived as flawed.

Re: Thoughts on the Game

Aside from the D scaring the crap out of me, the poor play of the O-line is making the Pats offense take forever to score. Light was getting owned by whoever the Bills lined up on his side. However, he did pull it together late into the game. Light better get it together because Vollmer played well in limited duty.

On the other hand, my dream scenario for every single season other than 2007 has been to put Matt Light at right tackle were he would be a stud, and to put a stud at left tackle.

I agree. All things considered, the D did a creditable job, especially losing their signal-caller halfway through the first quarter.

Re: Game Thoughts

I understand there is more that goes on with these things than we all understand, but unfortunately this is a common occurance on gamedays. That's why I have been patient with it and not said anything until now. But it happens every game and I look at other team's boards like JetsInsider and Finheaven and they don't have the same problems.

I wil support this site and I understand Ian works really hard to maintain this site, but he really needs to figure out a way to keep this site up and running on gamedays.

Rob - What is Ian supposed to do about DOS attacks that spam the board? Did you ever stop to think that there is someone out there who is making it a point to attack the Pats board during games because they hate us?? I have..

That being said, I would think that the company doing the servicing on his server would be able to do something about it..

Re: Thoughts on the Game

I just rewatched the fourth quarter, and I was a bit bummed by what I saw. Basically, the team adjusted to the fact that that the OL was a turnstile. Much quicker plays, and Brayd unloaded within a second each drop. Coupled with the prevent defense, and it worked. Still, guys were coming through almost unabated. If you get a chance to see a replay, see if you agree that it wasn't a whole lot better than the first 3 quarters, except that the patriots adjusted.

Lesson learned after the Giants game

Everyone Relax

For those of you panicking about last night, it's only game 1 of a long season. it's better we struggle early on, work out the kinks and play our best football for the end of the year. in 2007', we were blowing teams out early on but things changed. in 07' the giants gave up 70 points in their first 3 games. even the steelers struggled to score points. buffalo is becoming a better team each year and it's nothing to be ashamed of not beating them by 20 points.

the defense needs to gel. overall, i was pretty happy with the D considering it was just game 1. also, brady was rusty early on but that offense will start to click in no time.

i think our run D was solid - giving up 90 yards to the bills. our pass D gave up 215 yards, so that needs some work. if mayo had played the whole game, it may have been different.

All that matters early on is accumulating wins - pretty or not. if we play like this in after 10 games or so then we have some reason to worry. now it's onto mike sanchez and the jets. the jets fans already smell blood in the water and think they will win the division and that's after they beat a really bad houston team.

Re: Game Thoughts

The disappearance of Galloway bothers me, not that I care about Galloway one bit, but this translates into more wear and tear on Moss and Welker because teams will start isolating Galloway and doubling up and beating on those two.

Moss and Welker both had more than 10 catches last night if I'm not wrong- that is a workhorse load of the O and that cannot continue over this 16 game season.

Re: Everyone Relax

I don't know about you guys, but I'm kind of nervous after seeing Tom getting sacked all night. Do you think we'll be able to win on the road next week?

Somebody please remove the troll.

Re: Game Thoughts

I don't think the D was as weak as it looked. It missed Sey, but the secondary was so far improved over last year. Its LBs need to cover better, yes, but I think the D is already improving overall w the secondary overhaul.

And the offense was also better than it looked - yes, the OL needs to play better in both phases, but I think we only punted once. We were a threat to score on nearly every possession, we'll start converting more next week, I imagine.

Re: A Few Last Thoughts

I don't hate our defense. Other than the pure homers, I probably like our defense as much as anyone. I think the secondary's improvement is extraordinary. And welcome back Tully! Unfortunatley, Tully and Burgess must make up for the loss of Seymour. Tully was indeed THE playmaker. And a a welcome back to Thomas!

The front seven is short a couple of bodies, unless you think Alexander and Ninkovich are really ready for prime time. Do you disagree? Would the team be worse with the addition of a veteran defensive lineman and veteran ILB? Even Carter and Lenon might help, even though they might get as few reps as Lexander and Ninkovich. Do you disagree?

Unless there is significant improvement in the defense (which I certainly expect), the offense will need to score lots of points, especially in the playoffs. Do you disagree?

Buffalo is a really poor team and it doesn't bode well that three rookies playing tin their first game manhandled our defensive line for so long. Lots of improvement is needed. Do you disagree.

Re: Everyone Relax

They struggled in the first game of '06 too against arguably a worse Bills team. They barely beat a horrible Chiefs team last year (obviously Brady was hurt but the Pats were still a far better team). The bottom line is, a win is a win and now that it's out of the way, things should run a little more smoothly.
