WEEI.com: Long journey to Foxboro for Chung

This joke is completely racist, there's no inside joke on this or a reference to Eugene Chung. You're saying you felt better after you found out he was partially Black.

Don't try to defend it, you're just digging a deeper hole for yourself. You probably also feel bad when you see a Black QB on your team too.

Eugene Chung - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

3 - Eugene Chung, OL - Virginia Tech

When the Patriots drafted Chung 13th overall in 1992, he became the first Korean American player to be drafted in the first round of an NFL draft. After starting all but one game his first two seasons, Chung landed himself in Bill Parcells' doghouse and was replaced by the more talented Bob Kratch at right guard. He would only play three more games for the Patriots in 1993 before the team left him exposed to the 1994 expansion draft.

Just stop digging and put down the shovel.

The joke was that he felt better after he found out Patrick Chung was partially Black and not full 'Corean'.

Thus, it is less a reference to Eugene but a racial joke that is racist. He wasn't joking that he thought Pat was Eugene's brother, but rather that Pat was Asian.

I'll make it really easy for you since you have problems understanding concepts with any complexity:

If the Pats drafted a new Black QB named Keyshawn Canty, and then the poster joked he felt a lot better when he found out Canty was actually not a Black QB, he's basically making a racist statement that Blacks can't play QB. The original poster is doing the same thing with another race.

Eugene Chung is NOT a 'partial' Korean. Therefore, since Patrick Chung IS a 'partial' Korean, he's obviously not a full relation to Eugene. Stunningly, this doesn't take a degree in rocket science to figure out. Find me the long history of truly racist commentary on the part of PWP and I'll re-visit this, just for you.

As for me having problems with understanding, someone who got banned because they couldn't understand what the mod had posted in the very same thread should probably not be insulting anyone else's grasp of "concepts with any complexity".

You still don't get it? Explain how what you just wrote has ANYTHING to do with this statement he said:

"Once I learned that he was part Jamaican and not pure Corean, I for one relaxed a bit."

Explain the joke for all of us. Since you have no problem with it, you must also be fine with this one:

"Once I learned the CEO or Wall Street banker was only partially Jewish and not fully Jewish, I for one relaxed a bit."

Oh dear god.

You are so far wrong on this it's even more amusing than the original quip.

I just remembered the time you said I was racist for pronouncing "Adailus" as "Adailius" cos it sounded better. Good stuff.

I get it. It's pretty clear that you don't. That will come as a surprise to very few people here.

Since you "get" that joke and have no problem with it, how about this equally funny one:

Once I learned the CEO or Wall Street banker was only partially Jewish and not fully Jewish, I for one relaxed a bit.

No. That's clearly a joke about a Jewish stereotype, whereas this joke was clearly a joke about a former Corean/Korean NFL player/bust. Clearly.

Repeating a point doesn't make it more right. I don't get the joke personally, but it seems to me like it's an inside joke so I don't really care.

You're making a fool of yourself, drop it while you still can.

I'm usually right down the middle on these types of racial topics: some times I find there is a disturbingly casual and accepted racial undertone in certain threads; other times, I find there to be amusing threads that merely include race as part of the topic.

This is the latter.

It was a funny Eugene Chung reference. End of story.

Oh, and get used to it, because it will be neither the first nor last Eugene Chung Themed joke attempt in this forum. :)

Summed up beautifully.

but it seems to me like it's an inside joke so I don't really care.

It's as much an "inside" joke as the Jewish one. If you're not okay with the Black QB or Jewish banker joke, how is that one okay?

The joke wasn't even in reference to Eugene Chung, but rather the possible race of Patrick Chung.

I'm ok with it, because I believe the reason the race was a relief to the joker was not the combination of the race itself, but the connotation that it kept him from being related to Eugene Chung. The race was not an issue, except to indicate a possible relation to a player he doesn't like.

That's my take anyway. You're the one spinning it as a racist joke.

It's a racist joke that the poster thought a full 'Corean' couldn't play well, which is a stereotype. It's not any different than if someone made a joke that a fully Black QB couldn't do the job well or the fully Jewish banker "joke".

Clearly.

Wow, you're either trolling or you are the most clueless poster I've ever read. I fully recognize the worthlessness of my own post right now, so I'm going to drop it and let you be outraged in your own little bubble.

Good day.

I agree it wouldn't be racial if it was a joke about any brother relationship, but that is really stretching it. To say he was relieved when he found out Chung was half Jamaican and thus not related to Eugene? Who would think that two people would be related just off the same last name, and make a racially related joke about it? There are probably millions of Chungs out there.

It's like saying 'When I found out our new CEO Madoff was only partially and not fully Jewish, I felt really relieved'. Is that joke about being related to Madoff, or an offensive joke on Jews?

Clearly.

Would it be racist if I made a joke about being relieved my new banker wasn't Nigerian?

Am I suggesting all Nigerian bankers are scam artists, or am I making a joke about the famed Nigerian bank scams?

Or somebody who listens to this guy.....
