Saw someone's mock recently that has the PATs taking Alex Mack at #34 ......back-up for Koppen, replacement for Neal, insurance fore Mankins.

The more I think about it the more I like it.

Thoughts ??

It's a solid option, especially if we go LB in round 1 and the remaining top OTs are off the board. I think there's a decent chance Pittsburgh takes Mack at 32, but he could be available at 34. From what I can tell, some teams prefer Eric Wood, but Mack certainly seems like a solid Pats kind of guy. He's one of several players I have listed as options at that pick.

I'd be fine with that pick if he can play both C and OG. He'd arguably be the the BPA at that draft slot.

I like it! I've always said we need to upgrade and get younger at the Oline!!

Whether he's "best value available" at that slot depends on who we take at 23 and who's available at 34. If we go OT at 23 then I doubt we use #34 on an OG/C, particularly if a top LB prospect is still available. But he's a quality option in that range, if he lasts that long. Assuming we use all 4 of our first day picks, I see us using at least one on OL, either an OT or an OG/C. Possibly even both.

I wouldn't be upset with him at #34.

Or Max Unger, while we are on the subject.

I just have a feeling they go OL a little lower..... #47 or #58. Just whistling in the dark here. A hunch......

They could do worse.

While I think Wood projects to be a very good OG, I am not sure about Mack. I do not see the flat back drive blocking ability, but maybe it is there and I missed it.

Not unless he projects as a starter at guard sooner rather than later or Koppen is being moved somewhere (KC?) for additional picks.

Nothing against the player, but he doesn't provide any value unless one of the 2 above occurs.

Isn't that the chick with superpowers from that old nickelodeon show? If thats the case.... Take her!!! I saw he stop a car once with the wave of a finger. Freeney wouldn't stand a chance :D

I wouldn't mind seeing an up-grade at center, there are times that Koppen gets destroyed by the big NG's of the league.

But agree the overall weakness of the OL is status of Neal's health at RG. I would not be surprised if two interior OL were selected within the first 4 rounds on draft day. When Yates was in last year that OL looked awful.

I like him as a Patriot, very much. Fits our profile for an interior lineman to a tee.

I would love to see us grab some help for the O-line early. The only true stud up front is Mankins. Light, Koppen, Neal, Kaczur-meh. They play together well, but as previously mentioned, they fall apart with injuries. I wouldn't mind seeing us find Sir-Jumps-A-Lot's replacement at LT...I am not a Light fan for those of you who did not know =) He sees a speed rusher lined up opposite him in the 'gun and his knees start shaking and he gets this mysterious dark spot on his pants...

Jeez, I concur. He does that. I mean, check it out

What was it Pioli said we were looking for in football players? Big, strong, fast guys who make football THE priority in their lives? This guy, a former wrestler, is AN UPGRADE over our current center, who is a little small and can get dominated by the 340+ behemoths in front of him.

I watched him this season several times maul decent defensive lines. He quick and strong. At times he looked like a man among boys. I'd hate to see the Steelers get this rock-solid stud to anchor their line. I wonder how he did against Sedrick Ellis of USC two seasons ago. Any body know?

Here's a thought: I'd rather have this guy than Julius Peppers. Any day.

If they draft him at 34, he starts by next year if not sooner due to injury. Rated as the best center in the draft and can play any of the interior positions.

I posted last week that I believe that Mack is on the short list as the 23rd overall pick in the draft. I really think this kid is the best offensive lineman in this draft. Mack can play center or guard. Brady would have a bodyguard for the rest of his years. That said-If they don't get Peppers or Taylor-I don't think that they can avoid targeting a pass rusher at 23. Probably Larry
English-unless they moved up for Orakpo. Mack had a great workout last week. If Pat's pass on him he will be starting for Titans or Steelers soon enough. He will now be gone before #34.
