If we needed a QB for a year or for 6 weeks I would take Garcia + good draft picks over Cassel and no draft picks. It's not that its fact. Its simple logic. If your starter isnt healthy and you have a proven stud backup, you keep him.
Joe Namath had bad knees, no big deal, just slap on a brace and take a shot.
Did you see Namath the other night, trying to bring the Lombardi trophy up to the podium? I swear he looked like he was drunk again... but, I digress.

Mike Francessa reported on 660 WFAN New York today at around 1:05pm that he was told Brady suffered another setback earlier this week. He said that doctors are the ones who told him this. I have been trying to find other sources to confirm this, but have not found any. He did not say what type of setback, or how severe a setback he suffered if he did in fact re-injure himself.
It is clear to me now, that there is no way we are letting Cassel walk. I said it a few weeks ago and got ripped apart, but if this is true, it is obvious Cassel will be on our roster.
BTW, even if Francessa is reporting this, why is it OBVIOUS that Brady is not progressing as fast as we want him to be? Francessa is just a another story of a story that has many conflicting surgeries. Just because Brady suffered a setback doesn't mean he will be set back to miss the start of the season. Even if he is required to lay off rehab for a week or two, he can regain that time on the back end.
It is obvious to you because you are on the "the Pats MUST keep Cassel" kick. You look to be looking at anything to support your case as huge eventhough by your own admission Francessa didn't say if it was a minor or major setback.
I personally think that unless the Pats know Brady is going to miss significant time during the season like a half or more, they will trade Cassel and go with O'Connell or a veteran. $14.6 million and the loss of the draft pick compensation is too much to give up if there is a potential that Brady may miss a game or two.
I'm actually surprised that so many people didn't know who Francesa is. He's Parcells best buddy and a self-proclaimed Sopranos expert. He also loves horsies. And he looks like he ingested Parcells and a horse.
I'm surprised too. He's one of the pillars of sports talk radio and and I listen to his show (Well Mike & the Mad Dog, since I haven't been up north post-split) whenever I head to New England to visit family.
The only thing I'd believe coming out of Fatcessa's mouth is the location of the nearest greasy spoon where you can get 10,000 calorie plates of slop for under 5 bucks. And as far as Fatso and Fruitloops and their connections go,you'd be better connected if you stuck your index finger in an electrical socket. This is a NEW ENGLAND sports message board. The "opinion" of some bloated, pork sausage eating,500 pounds of crap stuffed in a 100 pound sack, die hard Bill Belichick hater carry as much weight as a feather in a hurricane.
