Rumor: Tom Brady suffered a setback recently

Joe Namath had bad knees, no big deal, just slap on a brace and take a shot.

It's not that its fact. Its simple logic. If your starter isnt healthy and you have a proven stud backup, you keep him.
Not if you can trade him for a lot. If we needed a QB for a year or for 6 weeks I would take Garcia + good draft picks over Cassel and no draft picks.

Did you see Namath the other night, trying to bring the Lombardi trophy up to the podium? I swear he looked like he was drunk again... but, I digress.

He probably just got laid, and was still recovering, he must be about 66/68.

He will be back for the season no doubt these guys (******s) are just looking for attention :enranged:

I said the same thing during the SB to the boys. We then promptly opened up a betting line on weather Suzy Kolber would come up for a kiss. I love that interview.

"I could not care less about he team struggling"

Priceless......during a Pats game too.

I heard Francesa say it today too. He mentioned it for about thirty seconds. He said it's bad news for "any football fan", becuase the league needs guys like Brady. He said he heard it from a close "medical" source...whatever that means.

I worked with Francesa a long time ago when he was at CBS and the guy is more connected than some hillbilly dj in Memphis, but I highly doubt he knows anything in regards to this situation. I was worried when he mentioned it...for about five seconds. I don't think more than a handful of peple truly know the extent of Brady's rehab. If Cassel is franchised and traded, we'll have our answer.

Well, it still hasn't been corroborated by anyone anywhere, so there is that.

Mike Francessa reported on 660 WFAN New York today at around 1:05pm that he was told Brady suffered another setback earlier this week. He said that doctors are the ones who told him this. I have been trying to find other sources to confirm this, but have not found any. He did not say what type of setback, or how severe a setback he suffered if he did in fact re-injure himself.

It is clear to me now, that there is no way we are letting Cassel walk. I said it a few weeks ago and got ripped apart, but if this is true, it is obvious Cassel will be on our roster.

Well, according to the box your post was in the time you posted this was...

Go figure...

I read this entire thread thinking there would be some resolution at the end (Brady did or did not have a setback). Of course it turned out to be a CWOFT, but it was still pretty entertaining.

Rehab from an injury is an up and down process. There are always some setbacks because it is complicated. I am sure every athlete faces some setbacks when coming back from an injury.

Re: Rumor: Tom Brady Suffered a Setback recently

BTW, even if Francessa is reporting this, why is it OBVIOUS that Brady is not progressing as fast as we want him to be? Francessa is just a another story of a story that has many conflicting surgeries. Just because Brady suffered a setback doesn't mean he will be set back to miss the start of the season. Even if he is required to lay off rehab for a week or two, he can regain that time on the back end.

It is obvious to you because you are on the "the Pats MUST keep Cassel" kick. You look to be looking at anything to support your case as huge eventhough by your own admission Francessa didn't say if it was a minor or major setback.

I personally think that unless the Pats know Brady is going to miss significant time during the season like a half or more, they will trade Cassel and go with O'Connell or a veteran. $14.6 million and the loss of the draft pick compensation is too much to give up if there is a potential that Brady may miss a game or two.

Good realistic post.......NO MATTER what.....Pats will most likely tie up almost 15 mil next year in Matt Cassel.....when he can be traded for draft picks........and when MANY OTHER QB's can implement the same low risk, conservative offense...(Shh.....don't let the GM's from other teams that are looking at Cassel as the next Tom Brady know that!)

IF Brady could not go, either Okee would step in if he was up to speed.....or they would pick up some FA vet backup that could get it done........Again, if Cassel was NOT in a FA year......could be different.....and he seems somehow oddly to be content as a backup.....but right now the Pats are not going to tie up that kind of big time cash in a guy like Cassel.....Would you agree Miguel if you are out there?....Time to get real......

Re: Rumor: Tom Brady Suffered a Setback recently

I'm actually surprised that so many people didn't know who Francesa is. He's Parcells best buddy and a self-proclaimed Sopranos expert. He also loves horsies. And he looks like he ingested Parcells and a horse.

The only thing I'd believe coming out of Fatcessa's mouth is the location of the nearest greasy spoon where you can get 10,000 calorie plates of slop for under 5 bucks. And as far as Fatso and Fruitloops and their connections go,you'd be better connected if you stuck your index finger in an electrical socket. This is a NEW ENGLAND sports message board. The "opinion" of some bloated, pork sausage eating,500 pounds of crap stuffed in a 100 pound sack, die hard Bill Belichick hater carry as much weight as a feather in a hurricane.

I'm surprised too. He's one of the pillars of sports talk radio and and I listen to his show (Well Mike & the Mad Dog, since I haven't been up north post-split) whenever I head to New England to visit family.

Some of Mike Francessa's best knowledge boasts

1 Bill Belichick loves the jets, will never leave- Dec 99

2 Bill Belichick is quiting football after 07- May 07

3 Arizona is the worst team ever in the playoffs- Jan -08

4 Arizona is a greatest team ever - Jan 08

5 Jim Fassel will be the next coach of the rams- jan 08

6 Russ Grimm will be the next coach of the jets- jan 08

7 Bill Cowher is going to interview for the jets job- jan 08

Mike Francessa has been god awful since he lost mad dog- He is just plain annoying to listen to , and unfortunitly I dont listen to Espn radio , i have to listen to him , since i dont live in ma

I always enjoyed Mike & the Mad Dog, except when Mike would go off about horse races. I haven't listened to either of them solo, either.
