Its Official: Miami-Jets game flexed to 4:00

This makes no sense to me.

You're saying that if the roles were reversed, we'd be very happy at our game getting flexed.

Of course we would.

This would put our opposition at a competitive disadvantage!

That's precisely what we're saying, the NFL screwed us.

If the NFL had helped us, we'd be happy??!!

It seems you understand the logic perfectly but for some weird reason you have no problem with the schedule when you yourself admit it puts one team at a disadvantage based on the arbitrary decisions (and you can't argue this isn't arbitrary) of people at the NFL office.

Huh? Huh?

What about the Jets letting down from realizing during the game they aren't going to make the playoffs?

As much as the jets hate us, they also do not like the phins. I agree with the poster that you quoted who said they would not want pennington to come and beat them. Also, the dolphins were 1-15 last year, would the jets really want the phins to come out on top of them in the standings after that, with the pennington factor, on their homefield.

I think mangini and tannebauem would hate for the fins and pennington to get in than the pats, honestly.Iam happy that our players and team can just focus on their game and worry later whatever happens.Buffalo at a 4 pm game with a loud crowd wouldnt have helped us .
Keep the 1pm time, show up and focus and try and win the game.

Dude Players are getting paid to play when last i checked. Miami doesn't blow anybody out and neither does the Jets.

This should not have been allowed to happen. It obviously could affect how competitive the Jets will be in the second half, once the Ravens get a good lead in that game.

Mangini and the front office can want it all they want, but it's the players' desire that wins and loses games like this. Once they know that they're out, and their fans know that they're out, the chances of Miami winning go up significantly.

VERY unethical move by the NFL. If you want the Jets on at 4, then move ALL 3 games to 4. The existing schedule called for them all to be at 1:00, so the league has now definitely manipulated this playoff race. I don't see how anyone can argue that.

if that team finds out their playoff chances are effectively over at halftime (i.e. Ravens 21-Jags 3) you think that won't take an emotional toll, as the Phins are clawing their way into the playoffs?

Exactly. I hate the Fing NFL. They should have just flexed the Ravens game, or just the Patriots game!

I hate Goodell. I really hate that mother-Fer.

The problem is Mangini's team sucks and the players will let down after their playoff hopes are shut out.

That's the problem right there.

there isnt much already to let down.

Sure the schedule's a little annoying but we lost the right to control our own destiny by losing to the Jets, Dolphins and Colts. Any of those games would have put us over the top. While this season has been impressive given the injuries, I'll bet the players will look back on it as a missed opportunity if we don't qualify and they won't care about flexed TV times.

How does this address my question: what about the Jets players letting down during the game when they realize they are out of the playoffs?

Do you honestly think they will not be disappointed?

I guess the positive, since I live in the Miami market, is that I might be able to watch both the Patriots-Bills game and the Dolphins-Jets game.

Usually when the Dolphins play at the same time as the Patriots I am SOL unless one is playing an NFC team at home an the other is away, playing an AFC team, or a Sun/Mon night game.

I usually hate conspiracy theories and all that crap, but it seems the NFL wants either Miami or the Jets to go into the playoffs. The Patriots are the elephant boy of the season, they want to hide us in the basement. We aren't making the big bucks we did for the league last year, because Brady is out and we are just your run-of-the-mill above average team.

Whereas the Jets and Phins are both Cinderella stories, good for the money.

I just can't believe they did this. I love football, but Goodell does his best to make me stop.

What does this mean? They won't be disappointed at missing the playoffs?

You think a team that doesn't care about missing the playoffs will care about beating the Phins instead?

Huh? Huh?

What's confusing. You said that we Patriots fans would be happy if the shoe were on the other foot.

Of course we would. If I were the Dolphins, I would be celebrating at a 4 pm start.

Even the Phins columnists pointed out that this would be best for the Dolphins' chances.

I did read some Phins' fans were scared that a 4 pm start would be worse for the Phins weather-wise, but clearly these fans do not understand the playoff ramifications.

so who's fault is it for the time change? The NFL or CBS? For some reason I think it's CBS's call, but I'm not certain. If it is, I was hearing a lot of blame being cast upon the NFL that might be undeserved.

And what significance is this?

Doesn't getting paid mean you don't care about missing the playoffs?

by the way, correct me if I'm wrong, but were the Arizona Cardinals paid to play yesterday?

I can't believe some of these posts. The difference between some of these teams on any given sunday is so small that it usually comes down to who wants it more....that little extra effort in making a tackle, fighting for the extra yard, ect. Yes, these guys are professionals, but if they realize early that their chances are making the play-offs are over, they have ZERO motivation to give that extra effort that could decide the game.

Moving the jets game to 4:00 is just idiotic if the league wants ever game to mean something. Jets at 1:00 would have meant that they would be playing for their play-off lives from start to finish. At 4:00, that has a good chance of not happening..you dropped the ball Goodell.

It doesn't matter what any one of us "expects" will or won't happen where the Jets players and coaches are concerned. Maybe the players will give up knowing they are out or maybe they'll play hard because they won't want to lose to the dreaded Mammals. Maybe the Jets coaches will call the game as if it's their last or maybe they'll tank.

The point is the league shouldn't put any player or coach in position to have to possibly determine the fate of another team by possibly dictating whether they try or not.

I just don't see that happening. If it was me playing and we got the word that, no matter what we did, we weren't going to the playoffs, I'd be mad as hell and play to at least go out with a win. Take it out on the players across from me in the other laundry. Play for pride, if nothing else.

At least that's how I'd see it.

Respects,

With a win over the Bills, we'll be 11-5.

Could be the first 11-5 team to miss the playoffs ever since 6 teams got in.

The point is, the NFL didn't have to engineer it so that the Patriots would LIKELY miss out with a 11-5 record.

I don't think anyone would tank.

I just think they'll be naturally let down.

Possible, I guess. I see it the other way around. I have to assume you've played competitive sports at some level. If you have, you know that you really have only one opportunity to take out your frustration - and that's on the opponent that you're playing *right now*. If they see at halftime that they're probably not going to the playoffs, do you think they want the Dolphins celebrating a playoff birth on their own turf? No way. And don't forget...the Jets and Dolphins are nasty rivals. Maybe not quite so much as the Pats/Jets, but still...it's not like they're buddy-buddy with Miami.

No, I believe that the players will play hard and will try their best to make someone else (in this case, Miami) experience some pain as well. Might not be enough for them to win, but I think they'll play hard.
