Cassel hype on this board reaches epidemic proportions

Re: Cassell hype on this board reaches epidemic proportions

It would help if Gaffney would catch them when he does it.

Gaffney's a lot more proven than the hall of famer. Are you saying Cassel hasn't missed a wide open Moss more than once?

Re: Cassell hype on this board reaches epidemic proportions

Not to mention Moss has let more than one get away.

I give up you guys are right, Cassel is better than Moss and Gaffney. They're just holding him back.

Ray me boy, you're puting up a straw person arguement. The posters are simply saying that quality play by the WRs would make Matt's performance and possibly our W/L record better. Realisticly, both Moss and The Hut aren't playing their best football. That is not saying that they're bad, either, just not hiting their expected level.

Well Moss and Gaffney are unproven commodities. I'm sure once they change their games to accommodate the greatness that is Matt Cassel, they could be adequate receivers in this league.

It's obvious Matt knows exactly what he's doing, so it has to be his receivers making mistakes.

Nice of you to say Randy isn't bad, despite his holding MC back. I know he tends to lack confidence at times.

Re: Cassell hype on this board reaches epidemic proportions

He is not a top 10 quarterback in this league and probably not top 15.
So he is only better than 1/2 to 2/3 of the currect STARTING QBs in the NFL?

And you find that to be a negative somehow?

Re: Cassell hype on this board reaches epidemic proportions

He is going to FA and will sign with some team for 4-5 million per year.
What's wrong with 4-5 million a year? Sounds like a good deal, but in fact it will likely be double that amount.

Re: Cassell hype on this board reaches epidemic proportions

If Cassel were great, we would not have 6-4 record. I'm not impressed with up and down Cassel.

If Morris gets a better block, we're not 6-4.
If Gaff catches a perfect ball, we're not 6-4.
If Watson doesn't fumble, we're not 6-4.
If the defense can stop the wildcat, we're not 6-4.

If you could see past years of experience and pay-scales... we're still 6-4.

Cassel showed he can put the game on his back, just like Tom. He showed poise under pressure. In numerous games he showed the ability to keep going back to the guys with the slippery hands and they have put up points. If anyone is "up and down" it the New England Patriots football team. Like it or hate, Cassel represents more consistency than most of the other players.

If "ifs and buts" were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas.

Like what you and marcus have ever thought matters a hill of beans in the whole scheme of the NFL...

(only slightly edited)

I believe my response was warranted.

(I do realize this is getting to the point where it is beyond parody or sarcasm, but I try anyway).

Who would have thought we would be seeing threads like this especially after the witch hunt early in the season calling for him to be cut or for the Pats to pick up Vinny T and Daunte Culpepper.

I agree the threads have gotten so over the top in both positions. I would rather see a 'come and eat your crow' thread for all the trolls and pretender Pats fans who were unfairly criticizing MC at the beginning of the season rather than waiting to see how he progressed.

Peyton Manning is up and down too

There a few QBs in this league that always play superb or always stink - All QBs have bad days and good days - except for Kerry Collins this year who surprisingly has not had a real bad day yet and has been consistently good.

In fact there are NO QBs in this league that are consistent week to week anymore,or so it seems except for the unbeaten team.

Cool! So now we're playing the game of deliberate, disengenuous misrepresentation and hyperbolic exaggeration of the poster's point?

I can do that. But I won't. As someone who watches the games and let's observation of what actually does and does not happen influence their opinions, I'll stick with the observation that Moss & the Hut are not playing up to their potentials as WRs this season and that has affected the stats.

Re: Cassell hype on this board reaches epidemic proportions

I don't get the "up and down" talk about Cassel. He's been remarkably consistent. If fact the negative I have is that he hasn't shown enough spark of big plays other than the perfect deep balls to Moss (SF game) and Gaffney (Indy game that was dropped). Cassel hasn't been either way up or way down for me, he's just been above average for most games. Even the Miami and SD games weren't that bad from Cassel.

Re: Cassell hype on this board reaches epidemic proportions

Hi value is very inflated, he is iniheriting a team that won all its reg season games last year, throw him on Detroit and hes probably very Orlavskyish. Not much of a standout.

1- Cassel will NOT succeed at elsewhere. Moss and Walker make him look good. His red zone is still no good. When your kicker has more points than your QB? How could you possibly tell me that he is a great QB or better?

2- Cassel SCORED a lot of TDs on bad secondary teams.

3-We'll see if this 4 year system guy can lead us to a SB win. 01 rookie TB did without Moss and Welker. That's difference.

SD wasn't that bad? Are you referring to San Diego or
San Dang!Idranktoomuchwinethatnight? ;)

Tell you what, I'll take the hall of fame receiver and his experienced cohort and you take the guy that makes 95% safe passes.

I guess that Brady guy must be pretty good, since he made those two shmucks look like good receivers.

He's a first ballot hall of famer, no doubt. Unitas and Montana had off games, but not Matt.
