That is the QB, the leader of the team. Not specifically Tom Brady, he is a great fiery leader, but the QB position in general is your field general. He is the heart and soul of a team, he is the one who rally's the troops, give the Defense a reason to fight so hard, and the team in general to rally to the cause.
It shows that we lack fire and intesity on both sides of the ball. No one is stepping up to fill the leadership role that TB brought to the team week in and week out.
I know everyone is dumping on Cassel as an indivdual talent, and I agree, the man can't play the position at this point in time... But on top of not being able to be solid and good, he lacks the ability to lead, he hasn't accepted the responsbility of leading the players. something that is tough for a young player to do int he face of grizzeled Veterans but something he needs to figure out.
Call a players only meeting, something, rally the troops... get them ready to fight down in the trenches for him...
Right now, the biggest issue facing this team is the lack of desire in the trenches, which to me, is 70% morale and mental state. The D line simply looks uninspired... the Offense line looks unwilling to do what it takes, and the entire team looks dead.
For proof, re-watch the game, and focus on Wes Welkers face on every play he is involved in... Look at the body language of Randy moss after dropping or missing a catch...
And for the ultimate example, look at Matt Cassel as he deliberately throws the ball into the ground a few times late in the game giving up on the play. He acts as if he could do nothing else... not good for Morale for the players watching that.
