That is the QB, the leader of the team. Not specifically Tom Brady, he is a great fiery leader, but the QB position in general is your field general. He is the heart and soul of a team, he is the one who rally's the troops, give the Defense a reason to fight so hard, and the team in general to rally to the cause.

It shows that we lack fire and intesity on both sides of the ball. No one is stepping up to fill the leadership role that TB brought to the team week in and week out.

I know everyone is dumping on Cassel as an indivdual talent, and I agree, the man can't play the position at this point in time... But on top of not being able to be solid and good, he lacks the ability to lead, he hasn't accepted the responsbility of leading the players. something that is tough for a young player to do int he face of grizzeled Veterans but something he needs to figure out.

Call a players only meeting, something, rally the troops... get them ready to fight down in the trenches for him...

Right now, the biggest issue facing this team is the lack of desire in the trenches, which to me, is 70% morale and mental state. The D line simply looks uninspired... the Offense line looks unwilling to do what it takes, and the entire team looks dead.

For proof, re-watch the game, and focus on Wes Welkers face on every play he is involved in... Look at the body language of Randy moss after dropping or missing a catch...

And for the ultimate example, look at Matt Cassel as he deliberately throws the ball into the ground a few times late in the game giving up on the play. He acts as if he could do nothing else... not good for Morale for the players watching that.

Get a grip, this is loser Red Sox fan talk from the bad old days !

Let's not and say we did.

Maybe he couldn't.

I agree with this thread.
He lacks the leadership required of a QB bc last time he lead he was 17 years old. He's used to running the scout team and that's how it looks out there...
There is no fire, there is no burning desire I was a 6th round pick and I will prove you all wrong.

Instead, we get the 'I backed up Palmer, Leinart, and Brady' guy who is happy with that. Madden was saying last night how he was content being the backup at USC because of the quality of the education??

That goes to show you something about his competitive spirit. Is Cassel enjoying his educational experience here on the PATS??

If I was a player on the team, I would look at Cassel and see a career backup who used to run the scout team and now runs the starting O as if it was the scout team.

I might be flamed for this, but if Cassel, had 10% of the heart of Brett, Brady, Peyton... He just lacks heart, passion, and a love of the game.

For those of you that are into the draft, how many times do we hear the Pats love drafting 'football players'? Cassel is not that from what I've seen. He looks like a high school QB out there. Focusing on his first and second read before looking to tuck.

I disagree with the abstractions about leadership, heart, soul. Matt needs to do very specific things to lead this team (as a result, not as a direct action). Namely, complete passes, find the open man, sustain drives, and think quickly. Once that happens, your leadership, or heart and soul, will appear to be there. But the real work is being done simply by doing your job well.

The players knew that they had a chance to win every game Tom

Brady started. That feeling is no longer there.

can we stop comparing brady and cassel or any other QB replacing him ?
he is only one of the greatest ever

I'm not comparing Cassel to Brady's skill... only Bradys desire to try his best and win...

Even when Brady plays bad, he's pissed, yelling, pumping up his team mates, ect...

That is what is needed on this team.

Tom Brady is one of the greatest.

How many teams have won superbowls with a great all time QB or at least a hot qb playing over his head for playoffs or just the SB ?? Not many and those that did had GREAT defenses.

Comparing Cassel to TB and then hating on BB for going with Cassel and not O'connel or not having a back up is pretty dumb.

We have a good not great defense - we don't have a great QB.

Settle down and let's just let the year be what it will be.

One thought, if we beat Denver next week and SD beats Buffalo - we're tied for first place.

It shows that we lack fire and intesity on both sides of the ball. No one is stepping up to fill the leadership role that TB brought to the team week in and week out.

I AGREE. This team has given up imo without him.

Did you miss the whole 06 body language fiasco?

I rather Cassel continue to learn and improve then run around yelling and swearing.

did you feel the same way after the SF win and the jets win ? or only when we lose , we observe all the body language stuff ?

this fire and heart and soul means nothing if we get in the EZ on 1st and goal. Its about executing and making mistakes and we didnt do jack of of the former and a ****load of the latter. Thats all it is to this game.

If only leadership was about how you act when you win, they leaguew would be chalk full of leaders...

I love the monday morning QBs..who have so much PTPFOUND knowledge all of a sudden..and have so little direct knowledge of it all...pretty pitiful...

Questioning Cassel's leadership qualities, his heart, his desire based on observations made through a tv screen is simply foolish. To blame a lousy game on 1 individual's intangibles is a real reach.
