Can you imagine if Flacco had Moss and Welker to throw to instead of these D3 wideouts?

Poor guy is asked to make filet mignon out of groundchuck

^^^^^^^^

Ummm whatever I said earlier about Flacco's great pocket presence... please ignore :p

lool i love ya emoney, can always count on you to show up and tell me how it is. :D

didnt you hear? I run the Pats. Ya. Secretly from my keyboard at home, through the use of email and IM to Pioli. Hes my puppet, i pull the strings he dances!

Your sarcasm, use of the :D smiley, and constant beating of a dumb dead horse reminds of the notoriously annoying somebody that used to terrorize the board.

At least give Cassel till midseason before you judge him because he hasn't played enough for anyone to properly judge him. He's also played well in all 3 starts. Go check out pats1's great breakdown of some of the Miami game. You might learn something about football while you annoy the hell out of everyone here.

Rookie mistakes under pressure.
Also, note the contrast in QB performance when the OL protects vs when it fails. That's football.

This thread is funny. More ignored entries in here than I've ever seen. They must flock together

Hilarious self satire!
Flacco's gone flaccid again.

Its better than homer. Stick around the game is not over.

Cassel is no Flacco. Cassel may get a little better this year but he is no Flacco.

Which is a good thing lol. You do know Flacco's stats so far this year, right?

I don't know how you can judge the 2 based on so little play.
How's Flacco's yds per attempt?
His % completion?
Right now the kid is immitating Kurt Warner.
For the many football challenged posting in this thread, that's NOT a complement.

Don't get me wrong, in the game thread I said that Flacco lookd very good the 1st half.

This debate is crazy. Are you people seriously comparing a rooky QB to a QB who has been in the NFL for 4 years? I don't expect Matt Cassel to make the mistakes that I've seen from Flacco tonight.

He looks very good. He is a rookie, he has played very little.

Much in this kid to build on, thats all I am saying. Love his arm.

im pretty new here but ive been around for a long time, just came over here recently because the ESPN boards are overun with trolls. I dont intent to terrorize, its just my posting style, can be very brash at times but i mean well.

you know DaBruinz right? Well before he came over here me and him used to go at it on the ESPN boards for years. Ah man those were the days, the endless threads of chaos. The Chronicles of Tom Ashworthless, The Violation of Eugene Wilson, there were some pretty heated debates on those boards, and they carved out personality and credibility. Just getting to know you guys, but i can tell that i will really like you emoney, your like me yet with the opposite opinions ironically, sorta like DaBruinz.

Flacco's stats?

Flacco is raw, just like his stats.

Are you watching the game? If you are a fan of the Ravens are you not excited about this kid?

This is where BRIZ would ask if you are excited about Cassel. I am not asking that, just talking about watching Flacco vs. the Steelers.

I would agree with that. He has potential and basic skills.
Needs work. He'll get it since the 2 vets are hurtin'.

hes lookin good on this last drive, made some nice throws. if he puts it in the endzone that will be impressive.

This is a nice game. Thankfully Jaws is talking more than Korny.

???? Every team will start the QB that gives them the best chance to win. Very seldom is that a rookie, only if the team has really bad backups. Even then, starting a rookie is generally a bad idea. even if the rookie is really really good. Peyton Manning was 3-13 his rookie year. I think he turned it around to 13-3 his second year.

And he came from Tennessee. Even rookies from major colleges have trouble with NFL-level defenses. Rookies who did not come from major college programs, say a rookie from San Diego State, would have even more problems.

Are you really this obtuse, or are you just wanting to act like a moroon because you're bored or something?

Lots of rookie QB's who start are high draft picks who are starting because the team had a lousy record the previous year. Look at Peyton, he was starting for a team that had a 3-13 record the previous year. O'Connell would be starting for a team that had a pretty good record the previous year and is a pretty solid team, that's gotta count for something.

Although I don't have much confidence in Cassell because he looks like he can't do ANYTHING right out there. If BB decides to stick with him I hope his problem stems from him just needing a few games for the speed of the game to slow down for him. Otherwise, if Cassell continues to implode, it may be too late by the time BB decides to try o'connell.

haha, thats precious...

so we can say cassel sucks after 3 games, but we cant compare stats between too qb's by week 3...

some of you really need to look inside yourselves, then look in a dictionary, and look up the word hypocrit...

then make a thread apologising

Comparing Flacco and Ryan to O'Connell is a false comparison. Completely different situations and dynamics.

1. New head coach for both Flacco and Ryan, thus no existing complex system they need to fit into. Everyone started over.

2. Both Flacco and Ryan knew before the season they'd be starting. Flacco midway through preseason, Ryan basically knew once he was picked. Thus all their teams' efforts have been geared to getting them ready. (Which was easier in the first place because of my first point). Both these QBs had weeks of practice as #1 QB before starting their first game.

3. Flacco and Ryan were first round picks. First round QBs are presumed to be the future of their franchise. No downside in starting them; if they lose who cares, really? They'll be better for next year, they are developing, right? Not true here, there's little point in throwing O'Connell in just to get him experience and hope they hit the lottery with him.

The answer to the original poster's question "why can't O'Connell start?" is "He can, of course, if you are willing to downgrade your expectations of what you want and expect from this team this season." Apparently some are willing to do so, but that better not include the team itself, until such time as Cassell proves he can't get the job done.

Dude........please give it up......

Joe Flacco is so out of Matt Cassel's league, you have no idea my friend.

The Ravens are going to be a better team because the coaches decided to start him over what was a more experienced guy in Troy Smith and they did this because they knew Flacco was a better player even though he's still in diapers as far as the playbook and the offense goes.

No, they knew that Flacco was the only #$#$@ing quarterback they had available: Smith wasn't cleared to resume practicing with the team until September 14.
