This will be a big week for the Patriots, with the club currently 24 hours away from paring its roster down to 53, having already parted with 14 players following their 42-10 blowout loss in New York Thursday night.
“I think he’s feeling more comfortable. We talked about a long rehab process in the off-season that he committed to.” Vrabel on Kyle Dugger
Mike Vrabel spoke to reporters on Friday and revealed a handful of players who have already been released as the team tries to pare its roster down to 53 ahead of Tuesday’s 4:00 pm deadline.
Coming off of last night’s 42-10 loss by the New England Patriots against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium, it was essentially the final audition for a decent amount of players, and there was one move that was certainly interesting.
This is my final New England Patriots roster projection! The rosters must be down to 53 by Tuesday at 4:00 EST.
This should be easy. There is very little Good to report from this game. The Patriots should just burn the video tape of this game. I have a list of bubble player later and perhaps one player showed enough to be worth keeping.
Ja’Lynn Polk made it clear over the offseason he planned on trying to prove his doubters wrong heading into 2025, with the former Washington standout looking for a little redemption after a disappointing rookie season. Unfortunately, it looks like he’ll have to come back and try again in 2026.
Final preseason vs. Giants; roster battles at WR, CB depth, TE concerns, and injury updates on Bourne, Chism & more ahead of cutdown day.
Neither team will play any of their starters or perhaps any players they have determined will make the 53-man roster.
Eliot Wolf stirred the pot a bit with his comments on Monday when talking about potential trade scenarios and what they’d be willing to give up, and it sounds like New England is actively exploring a couple of players already.
Some Patriots news and notes on this Tuesday, August 19, 2025.
This is my 3rd projection of a 53-man roster. The last pre-season game on Thursday is a meaningless contest being played by a majority of players that won’t be on the roster a week from now at 4:00. Here is my best guess.
Through two preseason games, one thing has become pretty clear. Undrafted free agent wideout Efton Chism III deserves the opportunity to stick around. The only question is likely going to be who he unseats down the depth chart.
Patriots Executive Vice President of Player Personnel said on Monday that given the ongoing situations throughout the league, they’re continuing to monitor things from a possible trade standpoint, and they remain open to potentially making a deal if the opportunity arises.
It’s safe to say that this preseason has been night and day compared to a year ago, with new head coach Mike Vrabel clearly coming in and laying a foundation that feels far more solid than things did at this point in 2024.
Anyone who has watched Mike Vrabel on the football field both as a player and now as a coach is certainly aware that he’s an intense guy, and that intensity extends far beyond the gridiron.
The Patriots wanted this win more than the Vikings did. Head Coach Kevin O’Connell was satisfied with the two day Joint Practices, and rested all his starters.
He’s just — he wants it,” Maye added on Chism. “And I think that’s the biggest thing he showed. And it’s paying off for him.”
This was a tremendous opportunity for the Patriots to test themselves against a top-quality opponent.
The Patriots wrapped up their second of two joint practices on Thursday, with most of the work focusing on the red zone for the offense as both clubs got some final work in ahead of Saturday’s preseason game.
Thursday had a heavy emphasis on Red Zone work. Last week the Patriots were 0-5 in Red Zone defense in the Commanders Pre-season game. They followed that up with a very poor performance during the second joint session against the Vikings.
The Patriots held their first joint session with the Vikings on Wednesday out in Minnesota, with Drake Maye and the offense holding its own against a well-coached Vikings defense.
Joint Practice #1 with the Minnesota Vikings was a good test of the progress of the Patriots Offense and Defense.
Some Patriots news and notes on this Wednesday as the team gets ready for two days of joint practices against the Minnesota Vikings.
This is a very important week for the New England Patriots. They have two joint practices with the Minnesota Vikings on the road. Saturday they will play their 2nd Pre-season game at 1:00 EST. The Vikings are going to be a much better litmus test of the Offense and Defense. The Defense under former Patriots coach Brian Flores is formidable.
