Monday was another tough day for New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, who was inconsistent as the club tried to focus in on another red area day ahead of their upcoming trip to Minnesota.
Monday’s practice was more like a regular season practice where the 1st team Defense and Offense were going up against the scout teams.
The Patriots finished their last public practice of the year on Sunday in front of a large crowd behind Gillette Stadium, with fans getting their final look at the club before the season opener, which is just a little less than a month from now.
More than the final score of 48-18, the Patriots went out with their 1st units on Offense and Defense and dominated the backup players from Washington. That’s what they are supposed to do. What is more important is that they are establishing an identity of a smash mouth football team. The Patriots are taking on the personality of their Head Coach. Vrabel, fresh off a cut on his cheek from a scrum at the joint practice, is a no-nonsense, players’ coach, who has them being accountable to each other. He insists on playing to the whistle, being physical, and playing disciplined football. They did all those little things on Friday Night.
“I mean, I think the way that the game kind of unfolded with the kickoff, going for a touchdown… we had some opportunities. Mike Vrabel
The New England Patriots kicked off the Mike Vrabel in style on Friday night, putting up quite the showing in their first exhibition game of 2025.
The final score indicated the Pats dominated, but that wasn’t exactly the truth. The Patriots were much better and scored whenever they had the opportunity.
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said prior to the joint practice that tonight’s game is essentially an extension of practice, adding that the goal is to allow the players game reps that they’ll be able to build on heading into the regular season.
Don’t expect the starters from either team to play much, if at all on Friday night. If I was the coach, I would play Will Campbell and Jared Wilson at least half of the game so they build on the chemistry they have started to develop.
We got some answers from the Patriots players in Wednesday’s Joint practice with the Commanders. The Offense was cooking on Wednesday! I said this would be a test (Is Patriots’ pass rush that good, or is the Offensive line that porous?). This was against the team that played in the NFC Championship Game last season.
