Looking at the remaining handful of Patriots free agents, there are still several looking for a landing spot ahead of the 2026 season.
Here’s a quick rundown of each player.
- Jahlani Tavai, LB: For a player like Tavai, who contributed as much as he did, so far, he’s yet to find a landing spot after being released earlier this offseason.
- Antonio Gibson, RB: Released at the beginning of the offseason and coming off a significant injury, he remains unsigned.
- Thayer Munford, OT: Munford saw a fair amount of playing time on offense after his addition last season here in New England, with the club often using him as an extra lineman. Several reports have indicated that his recovery from an injury has hampered his ability to find a landing spot, although he has since visited the Titans, but remains unsigned.
- Yasir Durant, OT: Durant was another name the club moved on from. While he’s yet to find an NFL team to play for, he’s since returned to the DC Defenders, with Durant now in his second stint with the UFL club, having played with them from 2024-2025.
- Isaiah Iton, DT: The team declined his tender earlier this offseason, and he remains unsigned.
- Deneric Prince, RB: He’s another player who the club opted not to tender this offseason, and he also remains unsigned.
- Jaquelin Roy, DT: Roy was also not tendered this offseason, and at last check, he’s still looking for an opportunity with another team.

A couple of lesser-known free agents who did find a home:
- Jack Gibbens, LB: Gibbens saw a lot of time on defense and was someone head coach Mike Vrabel seemed to really like, having nicknamed him “Dr. Gibby.” However, Gibbens was let go earlier this offseason despite seeing a tremendous amount of playing time from Week 15 on after Robert Spillane got injured. Vrabel and the front office shifted gears with their group of linebackers after the season, with Gibbens clearly not in their future plans. He’s since landed in Arizona with the Cardinals.
- Alex Austin, CB: The club didn’t tender him earlier this offseason, with Austin seeing just 144 defensive snaps last season while spending most of his time on special teams. He’s since signed with the Dolphins.

Tavai. It would be interesting to hear from the Pats coaches why Tavai’s good qualities (toughness, hitting, etc), are not at least worth having him as a backup MLB. I understand he’s not great in pass coverage and isn’t the fastest guy, but why not replace him when you have the skillset guys you want? Tavai played decent ball for the pats and was a physical tone setter for the D. Same with Peppers at safety. The pats have only a few guys rostered now in that MLB spot that are fits. They drafted a late round small school rookie that… Read more »
Surprised no one wants him. Solid depth guy and good on special teams, although his speed appeared to be an issue at various points last season. Definitely strange that he’s still looking for a team, especially this late in the offseason.
