Best Of Social Media: Week 11 Jets vs Patriots
Brian Fluharty-USA TODAY Sports
The New England Patriots entered Week 11 looking for their third consecutive win and 14th straight against the New York Jets dating back to 2015 in a pivotal division matchup.
On offense, the Patriots struggled to move the ball all afternoon. Quarterback Mac Jones went turnover-free for the second straight game while completing 23/27 passes for 246 yards, but he was sacked six times for the second time this year alongside poor line play and a thigh injury to David Andrews. Recent reports have Andrews attempting to play through his injury moving forward.
Despite the struggles offensively, the defense put on a show for the second straight week, holding the Jets to three points and allowing just two yards on seven possessions in the second half. Overall, the Jets recorded 103 total yards of offense. That number is the fourth-fewest allowed by any Patriots defense in a single game ever.
Through seven games, the Patriots are second in the NFL in points allowed with 16.9, trailing the Dallas Cowboys with 16.7 points.
Linebacker Matthew Judon added to his sack total, reaching 13.5 for a new career-high as he continues to chase Pro Football Hall of Famer Andre Tippett for the franchise single-season record.
Since the Week Seven loss to the Chicago Bears, the defense has allowed an average of 7.6 points per game.
The play of the day came in the final 26 seconds of the fourth quarter when rookie Marcus Jones returned a punt 84 yards for the game-winning touchdown to seal a 10-3 victory and move the Patriots to 6-4 in 2022.
“Marcus is really quick and I think Troy Brown has done a really great job with him,” Head Coach Belichick said about Jones’s season progress postgame. “Where Marcus was when he got here and where he is now are an ocean apart.”

Matthew Judon's 12.5 sacks tie for the third most in Patriots franchise history (since sacks became an official stat in 1982).
Judon trails only Pro Football Hall of Famer Andre Tippett (18.5 in 1984 and 16.5 in 1985). https://t.co/yBSX6oHxCi

Sack No. 13.5 for Matthew Judon is a new career high.
The Patriots still have 7 more games to play.

Matthew Judon has set a new career high and leads the NFL with 13.5 sacks.
Only one player in Patriots franchise history has had more sacks in a season: Hall of Famer Andre Tippett, who had 18.5 in 1984 and 16.5 in 1985.#ForeverNE @Patriots

The smallest guy made the biggest play today. Marcus Jones had an 85 yd punt return to push the Patriots past the Jets with 5 seconds left. He was speechless walking off the field pic.twitter.com/nVf86gbGMT

Patriots rookie Marcus Jones just told me his parents left their seats to go downstairs and make sure he was ok when he briefly left the game to get taped.
They watched his game-winning punt return live on a TV inside Gillette Stadium. Great moment for the family.
