On Sunday evening, a report by FOX News 640 host Andy Slater announced the passing of James White’s father Tyrone in a car crash in South Florida around 1pm that day, he was 59 years old.

White’s mother was also in the vehicle and as of last night was still in critical condition at the hospital along with a third passenger who’s condition remains unknown at this time.

According to ESPN Boston’s Mike Reiss, “when deputies arrived at the scene, they found two crashed cars, one flipped over and the other on fire. Deputies and firefighters extinguished the blaze, and an air rescue team transported two people to a hospital.”

Tyrone White Sr. was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

“I’m extremely saddened after learning of the passing of MDPD Captain Tyrone White earlier today as a result of an off-duty traffic crash in Broward County,” Miami-Dade Police Department Director Alfredo Ramirez said Sunday on Twitter.

White was inactive for the Patriots loss to the Seattle Seahawks after learning of the accident.

An outpouring of support for White flooded social media throughout the night.

A special moment occurred at the start of the game when cornerback Devin McCourty devoted his interception return for a touchdown to White and his family.

“Our hearts are heavy for James,” McCourty said after the game.

“It’s just tough, man. There’s no words you can say. Just wanted to go out there and play our hearts out for him. It’s just devastating. I was heartbroken for him.”

Following the game, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson began his NBC interview with a message for James and his family. Both were teammates at the University of Wisconsin.
