Fields traded to Steelers

If Jacoby is our starting QB then pack it in. They ain't trying and it ain't worth acting like they are.

Not that I expect him to be the starter.
Depends on how great the team around him is. This isn’t singles tennis.

Yes. The last 4 years was a waste and we got to start over.

It doesn't mean you don't spend money because you aren't expecting to compete next year.
Spend money on what? What's out there that we should spent moneey on and didn't?

I know nothing about the Bears' quarterback coaching but Fields' troubles in Chicago mirrored those of Mac, to a degree, re. trying to develop his game amidst OL deficiencies (see below). The knock on Fields is bad post-snap processing but he has what Mac lacks, a strong arm and running ability. Maybe he's an unsalvageable bust when all is said and done, but IMO the jury's still out.

The best the 32-team market would do for Mac was a 6th.

The best the market would do for Fields was a 6th with upgrade to a 4th based on playing time.

It says to me it was a struggle to find just one team willing to give a training camp slot to these guys.

More likely to be on the practice squad or cut than to be on the Game 1 roster.

Clearly almost every other team preferred to just pick someone else with their 6th rounder.

These guys don't even project into the 'reliable backup' category, otherwise an unconditional 4th or better would be merited.

Given such status the odds of these guys rebooting their career is very low, be it here or elsewhere.

The coaching staff will be putting most of its efforts into the starters and their own high draft picks.

These guys are now in 'Clipboard Jesus' territory, or worse.

You know what the Bears didn't do? Sign Jacoby to help their number 1 pick adjust to the NFL.

I wonder if it's because it's a ridiculous waste of money and isn't going to do a damn thing one way or the other in the development.

How'd that work out last year for the commanders LOL

That's a question for someone who's being paid millions of dollars to answer.

I got it. There's no one to spend money on, let's pack it in, draft well, kick the can down the road and not spend again next year.

I understand how it works.

I would agree if they both weren't both in line for big paydays with any amount of success.

If a veteran like Brissett has a run like Mason Rudolph, he still won't get the contract Mac or Fields would get.

I think it hurts these players value that they are on (basically) a contract year, where it's a hail mary, but if you are right it might cost a fortune, and only the player benefits. The value is less because it's a one year rental if it works.

Trey Lance brought a 4th last year with less credentials and portfolio because of time value (that again).

The third pick has the same value as the first pick?

LOL

You saved me a lot of time with this one.

A first round pick is a first round pick. Don’t believe me? Just ask Festy.

Brissett is a better passer than Fields. That is just the facts. Brissett cannot run around like Fields though.

Fields is a back up. The league has spoken. No one wanted him even in as a QB who can compete for the starting role. He is the clear #2 in Pittsburgh and will only get a chance to start if Wilson bombs out or is injured.

And people cannot get that 2024 is going to be a lost season for the Patriots. It is a first year of a rebuild. They are going to suck. Brissett at least knows the system and will play within the system which help young players develop. Fields is undisciplined and cannot play within the system which won’t help the young players develop.

2024 is about developing a young corp of players and building for the future. Neither Fields nor Brissett fit into that category. But with Fields, the offense turns into a game of undisciplined school yard football that doesn’t benefit the young players.

There are many here who would rather go 9-8 every year than to ever win a Super Bowl again

Agree here, if the rookie is ready immediately we’ll probably never see Brissett start. But you have Brissett just in case he isn’t.
Agreed further. I don't know who that will be.. but I've read that Mayo will take whatever QB is there at 3. As they all are considered franchise QBs

Fields is what Lamar is accused of being… a RB pretending to be a QB

I’d almost take 2020 Cam Newton as a passer over Fields.

I hope Elliot Wolf is putting a little more introspection, investigation and thought into the pick.

I suspect mayo will have zero input into the pick, he'll be given a team by the front office and told to make the most of it.

All three of the top QB's have flaws, I'm not sure McCarthy isn't as good or better than most of them.

I'll put up with alot. I won't put up with someone I've never interacted with who's not involved in the convo pilling in to call me a moron and leaving it at that.

I also won't tolerate your targeted harassment. Reported.

I can’t take your harassment. I have reported you to the state police.
