Great job on FA day three! Pleased with the front office?

Here’s the thing, has this Team improved any through FA? No, in fact it’s about the same team minus Mac with Brissett as a slight upgrade (I guess). The rebuild started…4? 5 years ago? No one should be just content with this so far, and stop with the money talk. It’s not your money and they have cap room they HAVE to spend to. This team lacks ANY elite talent right now.

You are so confused. When @thecore762 posted his thread "Great job on FA day one! Pleased with the front office" everyone fell in line and proclaimed how amazing Day One was to resign all the former BB guys on "great value contracts". This has become the Orchids of Asia board and if you think the Patriots should spend money on FA contracts, since they have the most cap space in the NFL over the next two years, the you are an idiot.

Maybe the Pats think they are a couple of years away and so want to save some of the cap? You can not be sreious. Before it was because BB was so cheap. Now it is because they want to save some cap. My God, are you hammered? The Pats have the most cap space out of 32 teams over the next 2 years, and they sign Nick Leverett and Armon Watts. Are you drunk??????
The question you should be asking yourself is: why does positivity bother you so much?

Because they can't get anyone to come here...?

They've added 7 players so far, four of which will likely have an impact (Brissett, Gibson, Takitaki, and Hooper), followed by three maybes (Okorafor, Watts, Leverett). None of those names are ideal, but again, this is going to be a tough road.

Although, you're right, if Bill was here and people were spurning them, I'm sure the perception would probably be different among some people.

A rookie QB needs all the help they can get to succeed. We cannot put out our current offense with a rookie QB. He will get killed. I think we are ok at TE now but we need 2 more WRs (at least 1 really good one) and I don't trust us to get them in the draft. We also need an LT and a couple other OLs. I hope most of our picks, especially first 3, go to Offense.

I am good with the defense though.
Of course, our first 3 picks will go to the Offense. Of course, this is nowhere near enough to fill all the hole on the Offense.

We are where we expected to be. We need a QB, a WR and a LT. We could trade for these; we could draft these, or we could sign these in free agency. The key is to acquire top level players at each of these positions. We whine, whine and whine. We could be draft a QB at 3, our LT next (perhaps even trading up into the first, and we could be trading for our #1 WR. And we would still have lots of cap room to make relatively minor upgrades, probably on Defense.

DEFENSE
Someone asking about which free safeties are left? In 2023, Mills and Phillips took reps at safety. let me just say that I think that we should be able to sign an upgrade.

Perhaps we think that our outside corners need no upgrade or competition with Gonzo, Austin, and Bolden. We have Jones and Jones at nickel. And, sure, we have Wade and Marco Wilson just in case. For me, a possible starter to compete with Ausin would be welcome.

Especially with who they've added. The guys @One-If-By-Sea mentioned (Watts [1-year] and Leverett [not reported, but likely 1-year]) are both here on short-term deals, among a couple of others, so it's not like they're committing anything to those guys. That way, they can hopefully either extend the guys who have incentive to perform well on essentially prove-it deals, and then move on from the ones that don't. We're at least not seeing them throw ridiculous money at similar players.
But if all you are doing is giving average talent for your QB, you are setting him up to fail.

Good talent that would take pressure off your rookie QB would be way way better.

Bobby Boucher was a nobody and he was really good

You never know

No question. But they're likely either going to have to target a guy in a trade or address it next month in the draft. Although, it's still early, so who knows. Obviously, this isn't the group any of us want to see if the season started tomorrow and judging by how hard Wolf went at Ridley, he knows they need help and I don't think he's done trying to find it.

Why is everything whining? Is this site not here for discussion. You don't like something ignore it or state your case as why it's wrong.

Why do people feel like they can be so judgy on a random online board?

Organizational Turnaround List
1) Have to hit on QB at #3
- Whether Maye or Daniels or even McCarthy after a short tradedown we need that guy to be the F*****g Man. Hopefully he is ready to go and forces his way into the starting spot by mid season. Star, dynamic players want to play with other dynamic players. Hopefully they show out, I’m not saying at the CJ Stroud level, but at a level that shows future is very bright.

2) Build the OL with veterans and mid round draft picks.
- Need an effective vet LT. Don’t care How or who, but we need it. Tyron would be great…Maybe bridges with Trent can be mended. I think the other 4 positions will be solid.

3) Sign a good complementary receiver like Brown, Boyd, Samuel, or Osborn. Then draft in 2nd and 3rd. Cut JuJu and just start fresh. Let the two rookies and Douglas play early and often and let them grow. Packer model.

4) Re-sign Zeke and run the ball to take pressure off Young QB.

5) Defense just do what you’ve been doing

Hopefully we show improvement, good team cohesiveness and effort. This might help with the free agent period next year. Good players want to go to good or up and coming teams.

I am underwhelmed thus far, but it is only the first day of the new NFL year. The Pats haven’t been able to make a splash in free agency yet, but there is still a chance they can pull off a trade for someone better than a Calvin Ridley.

I won’t really determine how I feel until after the draft and we see what they do including any potential trades.

Do you trust them to draft a WR that will be good next year? I don't at all.

Hopefully we can get the guy the Chargers cut today (Williams) or even better Keenan Allen.

I've said it a few times now, but it is what it is. They finished at the bottom of the league last season and have a roster that matches their record, which top-tier guys clearly have no interest in coming to. They got outbid for a guy who didn't want to come here and likely wouldn't have come here without an offer closer to $26 or $28 million annually with more guaranteed money, which would have been ridiculous.

They've retained 11 players, including several key ones. On offense, they brought back Onwenu (that would have left a big hole), re-signed Henry and Bourne, replaced Gesicki (Austin Hooper), and have started adding depth at positions of need, albeit they still need to address receiver, and it could come through a trade given how things played out with Ridley since it's clear it's going to be tough to lure guys here.

I'm sure they're not done. But I mean, it is what it is. Takes two sides to get a deal done and what's gone down hasn't been from a lack of effort. The Brissett signing is what it is. He's a decent player and he knows Van Pelt's system and he'll hold it down for a year for whoever they draft next month. They weren't getting Mayfield, Cousins, etc.

But on offense, the team stinks - nobody wants to play here. It is what it is. And it's going to remain challenging until that changes.

Meanwhile, they've also quietly made some smart moves to bring key guys back on defense, (Jennings, and Dugger), and added Sione Takitaki, who is actually a pretty good player. That group is also getting back Daniel Eukale and Christian Gonzalez, albeit they still could use another corner and additional secondary depth, along with more help up front.

I mean, it's March 13th. It sucks Bill's gone, I would have preferred hiring Wolf/Highsmith and keeping Belichick, but that obviously wouldn't have worked, and again - there's nothing we can do about it. I mean, nobody's thrilled with what's gone down. But that's where we're at.

And the two you mentioned aren't here for reasons that have already been covered and were removed due to posts that had nothing to do with football. I'm not going to rehash that again.

So I guess the question I have is, what else do you want people to say? Are we supposed to spend the offseason lamenting Bill's departure? Call for Kraft's head? Scream for Jonathan to force his dad to sell the team?

Meanwhile, they've also quietly made some smart moves - quietly made some smart moves? - you can not be serious. The Pats quietly outsmarted the rest of the other 31 teams in the NFL. How can you write such rubbish???? I do not even know how to respond. The Pats have quietly understood where the other 31 teams failed to understand???: I am thowing up in my mouth. What a joke.

OK I am wrong. Sione Taketaki is actually a good player. I missed that. Our season is saved. WOW! You do not reread what you have writen before pressing "Post Reply"?

I mean it is March 13th. At that point I stopped reading your response. You can not be serious. You think on March 14th we are going to change and turn around the 2024 season? I have no idea what to say.

So I guess the question I have is, what else do you want people to say? Are we supposed to spend the offseason lamenting Bill's departure? Call for Kraft's head? Scream for Jonathan to force his dad to sell the team?

You have created a message board where everyone agrees with the Pats' management, and if they do not agree, you block them. Good for you. Scream for Jonthan to force his Dad to sell the team? How about something simple like you apologize to Dingleberry and ask him to come back to PatsFans?

I’m with you Ian, unless and until we bring back Trent Brown at *any* price!

I feel more confident than I did, at least based on Wolf's history. Obviously, I'd prefer an establish veteran but I feel like they've got a better shot at getting one right in April than they've had in a while.

Because if things go sideways with the rookie QB, they're not hamstrung like that Pats are now.

What?? They are hamstrung while having the most cap space in the league over the next two years??? You are amazing. The Pats are hamstrung as teams will nearly no cap space sign the premier FAs.

lease keep posting more "dislikes" than everyone else on PatsFans combined and live in your own private world.

I am seeing more than a few sites grading us as a 'B' for this free agency period.
Not saying we should be excited about it ... but we have not sucked so far either.

Just from the viewpoint of the rebuild:
Rebuilds blow ***. Sucks going into a season where you know it’s going to be tough sledding. Now saying that, with our defense, it wouldn’t take much for our offense to improve to be better than last year. We could look at a decent improvement in the W column.

But back to the rebuilding, going into the 2025 season with a franchise QB, some young dynamic 2nd/3rd yr receivers, and a solid OL with the cap space we will have will hopefully have our arrow pointing up.

Ian, I wonder if you have any read on Kraft's involvement in the spending (or lack of it).

There’s a simple solution to change this:

Draft the right QB.

You do that, the whole situation changes. Guys will actually want to come here.
Correction Draft the right WR's we Need a couple Puka Nacua's.
