KC is set up poorly to contend starting in 2022 because of Mahomes monstrous contract that will fully kick in then. They have also kicked the can down the road on many high end contracts that will leave them in cap hell for some time. And this isn't even accounting for Covid and how it is wrecking the cap increases for the next few seasons. KC and the Saints might be the 2 contending teams in the worst cap situation going forward but at least the Saints get out from under Brees contract after next season.
Idk if I’m willing to say they’ll be set up poorly to contend because they’re paying debatably the best QB since Brady and Peyton top dollar. That in itself isn’t enough for me- I think having Mahomes on your team for a massive contract still makes you more of a contender, not less.
If they lost hill or kelce, they’d still contend imo. And pretty sure they have kelce long term. They have another crazy fast young receiver in hardmon. They already resigned Chris Jones. It takes a lot to keep together a championship level roster over the long term, and I hope they’re not able to. But just having Mahomes and a few great pieces is enough to contend.

I wanted them to. Even as a project. Hurts grew as a pocket passer under Riley and had prior experience in a similar system at ‘Bama.
I don’t think hurts will ever be an effective passer. You don’t face outclassed competition where you can scheme players wide open in the NFL.
He could be a slash or could be a decent gimmick qb for a few years.
My rule of thumb is when you see college QBs putting up big numbers throwing to wide open receivers be wary.

Poor choice of words. They will contend as long as they have Mahomes and he is healthy. I was more talking about winning Super Bowls. Very hard to do with they way their cap is shaping up. There is a reason why Kraft sat down with Brady back in 2013 to take less and why we won 3 SBs and went to a 4th as a result. I think there will be just too many other good teams with QBs on a rookie deals that will knock them out. Heck, it could happen this year with the Bills knocking them out or the Browns. The AFC is stacked for the foreseeable future.

Actually, they have been very consistent. This year is really about the four Covid games.

Cam having Covid really screwed up that 4 game stretch.

Absent that big hiccup, this team beats Denver and SF.......and just maybe Buffalo and especially KC.
SF is a bad matchup. In a fictitious 14-2 season that would figure to be one of the Ls.

But yeah I’d love to see what this team could have done without the Covid issue. I think this year more than any other missing practice time was devastating.
It would have been nice to see a total offensive scheme change with a spare part no one wanted at qb and defense losing half ira snaps to fa and opt outs churn out another 12-4.
I think if they run the table from here it’s reasonable to say without that covid interruption it would have happened. But they have to finish.

I’d rather the Packers won. Rodgers is good

Mahomes taking a 10 year contract helped them. There is no way by year 5 it’s not a value deal

I seriously doubt he plays that full contract. If he is still playing at this level in 4-5 years, they re-do it. The 10 years was so they could spread out the insane signing bonus and also have his cap number reasonable until 2022. That being said, depending on what happens to Covid, his contract could be the biggest poison pill ever seen.

That’s why I want Trask if we’re going to miss out on the Lawrences and Lances of the world in the draft. All SEC schedule, usually facing tight man coverage, and is still setting records. And he’s a Gator, so that’s an added bonus. This assumes his stock doesn’t vault him into the early first round, which could happen if we somehow don’t get curb stomped by Alabama. Only downside is he’s a statue, but we did pretty good with one of those for like 20 years, I think.

What’s between the ears matters most. A statue will last longer than a guy who relies on running.

Trask has a high football IQ. Film rat career back-up in HS and college who took the bull by the horns and earned his starting job. He’s a hard worker. I have a feeling Bill will like him.

It's amazing to even be in the discussion of playoff seeding this season.
My honest expectation in Sept. was that even squeaking in as a 7th seed would be an incredible victory this year.
But now that we're talking 1st round bye opportunity - it's still within reach.
We just need TEN and KC to lose 1 more each, and for us to win out. It's certainly possible.
KC (PIT, CIN, DEN), TEN (PIT, SF, MIA, TEX)
However, seeing how we played coming off the regular bye week - I'm not sure it would serve us well with the pressure of the #1 seed.
And truthfully, we're not good enough this year to get to the SB. I think getting to the div. round, or if a miracle happened, the AFCCG, would be a great accomplishment this year. And serve Mac and the team well heading into next year - where we'll be even stronger IMO.

If I am an eagles fan I would not think highly of hurts and would not have confidence that he is a franchise qb

Coming into this season, my goal was a winning record with a stretch goal of making the playoffs. Barring a late season collapse, the stretch goal is definitely doable. I don't think the Pats have enough to go deep into the playoffs. Another good draft and Jones with a year's experience, and 2022 might be a different story.

One thing we've been bad at is defining the playoffs as a second season in the dynasty years. The teams that rose up out of nowhere to beat us should have at least taught us the lesson that a .500ish team can win it all. Not that we'll be in that category.

I was so confused about this thread. Thought it was about this season but it was a 2020 thread lol

Loss vs the Billdos, win vs the JAGs, loss at Miami…

If 10-7 is good enough to make the POs, then whoop-de-dam-doo, I guess, but this is how the last 3 games are going down; we all know it… ****in Patsies gonna be one & done even if they do make the POs; we all know that too. Why? Because God Hates All Us Pats Fans.

We don’t need the titans to lose again, since we beat them. We do need the chiefs to, though.

Whatever happened to Luuked?
