NFL Preseason (Might Be?) Canceled

The quality of football we're going to get in 2020 will be bad...

Just being able to play fundamentally sound and be in good shape will go a long way this year.

Gut feeling is we won't be seeing preseason games anymore...

This has been gradual and consistent retreat by the NFL as the facts on the ground become clearer and clearer.
I think the League saw that the Players have a lot of public support. I said a couple months ago that as far as safety is concerned, the League should give the Players anything and everything they ask for. It would both be good PR plus prevent any types of grievances or lawsuits.

I have all but given up on any of the owners or players acting magnanimous to each other. The owners want the TV money. The players know that most players have a 2-3 year window to play. They all want the money. That will make it so both parties want to play.

I don't understand the need for owners/players to fight about money in a season like this.

Why don't the owners let the players take most of the profits this season and promote the league as a new model for the country working together? It's time to reinvent the league by reminding everyone that the NFL became successful because rich owners agreed to share revenue with the poor ones.

Get players on board anyway you can. The franchises will increase in value because of it.

I don't have any numbers, just guessing, but I don't think there are going to be any profits. I would imagine most teams are looking at a loss even if things go really well.

Not sure how much good they do for player evaluation anyway... I swear, every time I see somebody have a great pre-season game... two days later they're getting cut. So...

...meh.

Ever?

They've been planning to reduce them, but in regular years there will at least be a couple.

I think the players will demand it going forward...personally, I'd like to see 1-2 preseason games

If/when things return to normal, the players are not in any position to make such a demand. They signed a 10 year deal agreeing to 3 preseason games. This year obviously has unique circumstances, but I doubt the NFL will drop the number of preseason games (under normal circumstances) since that's free money.

You have to wonder how many UDFA that would usually make a club after an outstanding pre-season are going to get cut. Alot of these guys might never get another shot. I bet BB has his college guys rescouting the 2019 class, waiting to scoop up UDFA as they become available.

As a season ticket holder who didn’t skip this season, I sure hope they skip the preseason.

It would just be my luck to only get a preseason & Jets game this year, with limited seating.

I don’t want to pay for a covid19 preseason game unless I get tickets to all games, which won’t happen if they only plan on filling %25 Of the stadium.

I hope so!!! I am currently on YouTube TV and they will increase the price by $15...originally, I planned to jump to Sling TV to get NFLN to watch presason games on tape delay. Now...I will just cut out YouTube TV...and wait until week 1 before reactivating my DirecTV account (the dish is still mounted outside) and getting Sunday Ticket....meanwhile YouTube TV will hold my unlimited DVR memory for 9 months....

Hopefully, AT&T abandons DirecTV ASAP and we can just stream Sunday Ticket which would save me tons of money.

My impression has been that BB and the coaches feel that the 4 days of padded practices against other teams are more useful from an evaluation standpoint than preseason games, because they can fit a ton of reps into those practices and the coaches can tailor the drills to their needs.

No preseason games
No practices against other teams
Decrease in the already limited number of padded practices..

BB must hate this. Hopefully they temporarily increase practice quads to 20 players. The only silver lining I can see is that this will likely decrease the risk that some other team will poach a patriots late round rookies and/or undrafted free agents. I doubt that they will allow scouts from opposing teams to watch practices.

I think believing we are close to a cure is awesome and while I certainly hope so, I also hope they cure cancer, the flu, and the common cold at the same time. Sooo.... kind of tempering my hopes. However, just remember, in a bad year, with a vaccine, and herd immunity built up, the flu death estimates are 50,000 to 90,000, (cdc estimates) in 6 months and we never ever hear about it.
The CDC estimates use a multiplier based on the number of hospital admissions for the flu to come out with a total death rate for the flu in any specific year. When they have developed a similar multiplier for Covid-19, the number of deaths from this virus will be considerably higher than the numbers being reported now.
For example, a neighbor of mine died two weeks ago, most likely from the virus. He was never tested, but he had exhibited the symptoms and his wife was subsequently tested and shown to be positive for the illness. His demise is not presently part of the Covid-19 mortality total, but will be estimated by the CDC in the future.

IT IS NOW OFFICIAL! PRESEASON IS CANCELLED!
Training Camp Roster decreases to 80. We are at 90, which means cuts will happen before training camp begins.

Cancel culture outta control

I wonder if we’ll actually see 10 cuts or if some of those openings will be players opting out of this season. I hope everybody can play and stay healthy, but I have to think Andrews and Cannon in particular would be among the higher risk NFL players right now.

I hope the rosters are 60 instead of 53 at cutdown. Even better 66 and cut again down to 60 after 4 weeks.
