Bengals release QB Andy Dalton

You think they signed Tebow so BB can show he doesn't need Brady to win ? What ?

I thought the signing of Tebow at the time was to show he could remake Tebow into a great QB. I didn't mean to imply it was to replace Brady right away.

Bill has an ego for sure just like Tom and no question he wants to prove the same thing Tom does.

If he’s signed and wins the starting job, the team is angling to get the #1 overall pick. No doubt about it.

Tom wants to get double the money throwing to guys who can actually catch in his old age.

Belichick didn't want to commit $50m over two years to an old QB when he has to do a quasi-rebuild of the offense in general.

The supposed psychodrama between the two guys is mostly just weird fan fiction.

Only want him if it's the veteran minimum and Stidham still gets a chance to start.

Well if we want to be somewhere around the 8-8 range then Mr. Dalton is our guy. I want to see what Stidham has. Kid has some good arm talent and hopefully shines with a better line in front of him. Don’t want to hear “We signed Dalton to give Jarrett more time”. We need JS to get experience, take his lumps, and see how he responds. If he does not progress from week 1 to week whatever corona allows, then maybe we look to move on next year. There are some pretty good looking QB prospects (not just Lawrence) in this upcoming draft depending who declares. I’m in the 60/40 club that JS steps up and shows he’s capable of doing the job.

Just Say No to

Yeah, Andy Dalton. The piece where missing:confused:

Actually we're missing the apostrophe but at least we have the luxury of having an extra H.

You've just been Tuned. :haha:

The Patriots only take Dalton if he's cheap. I think that's virtually guaranteed.

If Stidham can't beat out Dalton he's trash and doesn't deserve to take an NFL snap.

If he does beat out Dalton then you have the luxury of a solid backup.

My QB preference:

1. If this is the time-line where Stidham relegates Brady to second best Patriots' QB: Stidham.
2. If this is the time-line where Stidham replaces Chris Simms at NBC in a year and a half: Cam Newton.
3. If Cam doesn't pass his physical: Chris Simms

This post gave me cancer.

No. Although, this does give us something to talk about.

I think signing Tebow had more to do with McDaniels who had used a first round pick on him.

People who are saying don’t sign him probably don’t realize he lead the bengals to the playoffs in 5 out of his 9 seasons, with 5, 9+ win seasons.

This is while being in a tough AFC north division. Of course we know Dalton has no playoffs wins, but that’s just as much on Marvin Lewis.

They were also on the brink of beating the Steelers in a playoff game, until burfict decided to head shot Antonio Brown and give the Steelers a 1st down. That type of idiocy doesn’t happen here.

Andy Dalton should definitely be signed to compete with Stidham. You don’t just hand the keys to a 4th round second year QB in April. Competition is needed.

At some point he was a quality QB and I think he could do well in the Pats but I'm not interested, let's row with Stidham and see what he has.

It would be interesting to see him go to Dallas since he is from TX. QB controversy right there.

83M$+ "earned"... hahahaha

I'm not interested in Dalton, but would I be surprised if he's a NEP by this weekend ? No. Would I be surprised if he is the 2020 starter ? No. Could a BB-Dalton combo win 8 games in 2020 ? Sure.

Would be hilarious if he IS signed, they all compete, and BB goes with the 2020 UDFA from Mich State in the season opener !

I mean, if I'm signing a quarterback with the anticipation they'll start next year, give me Cam over Dalton every single time. If I'm not, I don't see what Dalton gives you over Hoyer, both are pocket passing quarterbacks who add no extra dimensions to an offense and are perfectly capable of being below-average starters that any team will be trying to replace. I think Dalton and Hoyer could both carry the team, give Belichick and the defense, to a divisional title or wild card spot, but I think they'll have very little chance against better teams, which has basically been the Dalton/Hoyer experience over their careers.
