My simple clear sarcasm was too much for you to process... I already made it clear in another post that I respected other successful teams... Just for you I shall pars things very carefully for now on. Go ahead and spread your loyalty like butter. I really do not care what you do. Only the most pathetic and contemptibly weak ~ like Dennis Leary ~ root for a team over their own home town team because of that team's success...or falsely accuse others of doing so.To any but the pathetic and contempibly weak, it goes without saying that I've always rooted for the Patriots against all of the NFL Dynasties, come Hell or High Water...
But you'd have to be pretty weak, indeed, to allow your love for your own team to get in the way of admiration for another team's Greatness. And you'd have to be a pathetic little worm to be so intimidated by the accomplishments of others that you hate them.
I really don't see that as pertaining to the Patriots anyway. I mean when I lived near Boothbay harbor we called a few Mass tourist that and sometimes for good reason. We loved the Pats though. No, hes calling us massholes, been called much worse.
I think you can appreciate another team's success and not get sick of them.
You belong to a small minority in the world. Hating is much easier than thinking.
As you know, a lot of people really did not like the Celtics. Primarily, because we won all the time. We weren't exactly humble about it, but not because we were stuck up snobs. It was a psychological competitive strategy: the truth was every year we were going up against Oscar and Wilt and Baylor and West and the rest, we knew they were good, and good enough to beat us. We were brash and ****y to instill some confidence and get over the jitters. Led by Bill Russell, humor was a huge coping device on that team. We used it to relieve the pressure and stress, and to offset Red's driving determination, and it worked.I like dynasty talk because it gives me a chance to talk about the greatest dynasty of them all, the Celtics. Golden State could get close to them if they just repeat 3 of 4 twice more in succession.
Some of my opinions on the NYFL dynasties has changed over the years, especially when the Pats started getting called cheaters for doing nothing. On top of that list is the 49ers and Jerry Rice, who admitted to using stickum after he had the dropsies in his first season.
It's an abstract, hypothetical type of analysis to imagine the Patriots are just like any other team, and to compare people's reaction to them to those for other dynastic teams in the four major sports over the last 120 years. It's weird. It's just a game, and of course people are going to root against a team as dominant as the Patriots. Just like people are rooting for the Warriors to lose in basketball. Just like we didn't like to see Peyton Manning win, and Red Sox fans rooted against the Yankees. That's part of the fun.
I just don't see why people take someone rooting against the Patriots to be a sign that person, uh, deserves to be beaten up and ****. It's the most unhinged sort of thing, to get this riled up over the #brand you like.
Teams like the Packers, 49ers, Steelers, and Cowboys had dynastic periods.
Those time frames became boring however I respected those teams.
Steelers won 4 in 6 years that were bookended by mediocrity. The Cowboys were a consistently good team in the Staubach/Landry era but only won 2 titles pretty far apart. Then in the 90’s they won 3 our of 4 then fell apart before the decade ended.
The Pats won 5, make the Super Bowl every other year on average and have been in the AFCCG for 7 straight years.

But the reality is that the Patriots are not like any other team; this franchise has been denigrated, abused, insulted, and ravaged by its own league and in the local and national media in unprecedented fashion.
And that's PRIOR to Tom Brady taking over as the starting QB.
Since then? Well, when we won the AFCCG in Pittsburgh in '02 there INSTANTLY were cries that we cheated and did not deserve to be in the Super Bowl.
Not, "Wow, good for them, they're a really good team, they did a good job" etc.
I always tell people that there are 33 NFL fan bases....the 32 teams and the Patriot haters...
And I think the Patriot hater fan base is the biggest fan base in the NFL by far.
I also saw an, "Anybody But Brady" T-Shirt in Vegas before the Superbowl….
God, I love these miserable bastards!!!!
Why not Tom Brady and the Pats? Who the hell wants to see Blake Bortles in a Super Bowl? Joe Flacco? Andy Dalton? Do I need to go on? Big Ben is the next best QB but he plays like he's a senior. Phillip Rivers is right behind him but he's a proven loser.
Anybody know what the ratings are when the Pats are in the Super Bowl compared to when they are not?
Silly Earthlings. I'm down with the OPP ~ heh ~ on this one: "How mentally distraught do you have to be to dedicate an article of clothing to hating something?"
Original Poster's Point, 'cause now I gotta hear this:
I love the Alabama Crimson Tide, and always have...But, then: I've always also loved the Michigan Wolverines, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and several other teams.
And when they're playing each other, I have a blast...Georgia BullDogs? Love'm!! I like all Georgia Teams!! Last Year's Championship Game was awesome.
I loved watching the Steelers win in the 70's.
I loved watching the Miners win in the 80's.
I loved watching the CowBoys win in the 90's.
Greatness does not annoy, irritate, bore, or sicken me.
Greatness inspires and exalts me.
Wait a minute... Does this mean that you look in the paper or online, see who is in first place, and then buy a hat???
