2018 UDFA prospects

That Kanoff kid looks pretty damn good

Luis Perez: The Most Interesting Football Player on the Planet

Some highlights:

  • Didn't play HS varsity football
  • Walked on as the 9th string QB at community college, coach told him to quit. He refused.
  • Through injuries, transfers, etc. he ends up starting (18 TDs 3 INTs), transfers to DII Texas A&M Commerce
  • Team is 2-18 before he arrives. By the time he leaves he's the DII Heisman winner (Woodhead, Joique Bell among others) with 46 TDs 5,000 yards & wins the national title.
'“But I was the first one there, and the last one to leave,” he told NCAA.com. “I was trying to make a statement: I’m here and I’m not going anywhere until I get an opportunity. The coach said, ‘We really don’t need you’, and I told him I was sorry, but I wasn’t going to leave. People switched positions, people transferred, injuries happened, and before you know it I ended up being fourth somehow. I got in the mix a little bit.”

Perez says he’s been visited by scouts from 28 NFL teams, some of whom talked to him for a few minutes, others for close to an hour. He’s got an invite to showcase for scouts in the NFLPA Game early next year, competing against players from most of the big-time college powerhouses.

I hope Perez gets a shot at some team's training camp. This story is wild so I'd figure I'd share.

Not sure he's a NFL candidate but **** I love college ball shenanigans

I watched tape on dalton Schultz the tight end from Stanford.

With his blocking, as little as it is, he is already a better tight end than Hollister.

He should be worth signing.

Should get drafted

Not overly athletic but blocks well and has good hands and massive frame

God, his footwork is some ugly ****. Makes Tim Tebow look mechanically sound.

Even with that ugly footwork, he can wing it and fit it into tight windows. But so can a lot of these guys. He's going to need a ton of coaching work on stuff most drafted quarterbacks have been doing for a decade. He'll probably go to camp with someone but I don't see it.

Interesting comp

"Infectious style of play and loves to get it. He's a dog on special teams, man! I love watching his tape because you can just see how much he loves to play." - NFC regional scout
BOTTOM LINE
While Gage may lack the elite size or production of a draftable wide receiver, he does possess the athletic ability and competitive nature to be considered as a diamond in the rough on Day 3. Gage has the speed, toughness, and instincts on both punt and kick coverage to create some buzz in the buildings from special teams coaches during the run-up process to the draft. Gage's special teams talent could land him on the roster, but he has some raw natural ability as a slot receiver that may bear fruit at some point.

2018 NFL Draft Profile: RUSSELL GAGE

Really like this guy as a third down option in the 7th or in UDFA. I don't think he'll get drafted, because of his low rushing totals, but he can catch the ball cleanly and create in open space. Really fun to watch in the Texas Tech offense. I noticed him when watching game tape of other players, and I kept wondering who the running back was on all the screens and passes. Turns out he's draft eligible this year.

Wr Renfro from Clemson. The next welder Clone?
Hunter Renfroe WR Clemson decided to stay at Clemson for another season. He has said on a number of occaisions that he would like to play for the Patriots. Wait till next year.

The thing for me about Hollister's blocking was not that he didn't put effort into it (he did) or that he had awful technique (he didn't), it was that he seemed to keep misunderstanding his assignments, even late in the season.

Personally, I'd rather have a TE who's an excellent blocker and can catch a bit than one who's a very good receiver but can't or won't block effectively.

Lets start with this little bullet: Trenton Cannon

After success in double dipping on Butlers and Flowers why not Cannon this time . small school, low competition but someone will give this boy at least a tryout. If Lewis will go elsewhere, why not try here..

Cannon is on my list.

Got something for you soon .....

Among WR long shots to hear their name on any Draft day . here is an interesting Pat type player: Dylan Cantrell.

Doesn't put up big numbers and nevertheless he is intriguing prospect for a team like the Patriots: he is big, tough, dependable, very consistent, experienced, team first player who is also a leader. As a player he catches basically everything thrown at him (was even among leaders in PFF rec. ratings in the beginning of the season), he is a monster blocker and a good red zone target, above all he projects to be a core ST player in NFL. With Slater on his last NFL legs certainly something to consider (although I like Cody Hollister as a gunner and backup WR going forward) . but Cantrell can fill different positions @ST - he also has LB experience.

Here a nice article on him:
2017 Tech football rankings: No. 8 Dylan Cantrell

quotes:

Perhaps his most selfless act this season was to switch positions part-way through the year. After Derrick Willies went into the witness protection program (I assume this is what happened because we never saw him again), Cantrell flipped sides of the field so that redshirt freshman TJ Vasher didn't have to learn a new position. This position has historically resulted in fewer targets since it is on the left side of the quarterback and I suspect it did impact Cantrell’s production.

One thing you could always count on, is for Cantrell to show up. Whether it was competing for a jump ball, blocking downfield, or running the right route.

Cantrell should get a look with the NFL, either as a late-round draft pick or as an undrafted free agent. I could see him getting into camp with a team and making the decision to cut him very difficult because of his ability to play special teams. I could see a role like the one Bradley Marquez has carved out with the Rams and Lions for Cantrell.

Here's hoping.. Plus the Patriots have an "IN" at Tech in former Patriots QB Kingsbury.

The fact that he can play inside or outside PLUS his height AND his agility, I hope the Pats use a pick on him.

Cantrell should have way more hype. His body control is elite. Nice little intro to his game:

Seems to me the Chiefs oughta make it a point to draft this guy.

I can't tell if I should put this in Hidden Gems or UDFA prospects. There's a lot of crossover. :)

Darious Williams is undersized, but he makes plays on the football. He had 5 picks + another 19 pass breakups in his last season. That was good for number one in the counter for ratio of throws into his coverage responsibility vs plays on the ball.

Height: 5095
Weight: 184
40 Yrd Dash: 4.44
20 Yrd Dash: 2.56

Actually, quite a few of my favorites are on this list:

Tre Flowers. Oklahoma State. I haven't finished my eval, but he could be in the mix based on what I've seen so far. Not sure he's ever going to be a starter, though. Late reads and doesn't seem to have a lot of speed.

I like him and not just because it would give us 3 Flowers and 2 with the exact same name. He is projected to go in Rounds 4-5 and I realize you posted this back in January.

I just learned of one Jaleon Acklin WR
Western Illinois.

I said he didn't have a lot of speed, and then he goes and runs a 4.45. What do I know? But I stand by the late reads. He doesn't play up to his timed speed, and I think that's due to slow processing of what an offense is doing.

Nice find on the WR. :)

Perhaps I am bias because I live in Worcester now, but even still I can't say that I've actually seen him play in person.

That said let me introduce you to
