OT: Integrity of the Game? End of Ravens Game (youtube..)

Ok, so he's not being original. I was almost impressed for a second. Along with the palpably unfair/unsportsnanlike rules, you guys convinced me that it's a dubious play.

My standpoint was more that Harbaugh can go ahead and be a hypocrite for leveraging the rules, but I'm not going to be one by condemning it.

I was thinking that it was comparable to purposely taking a delay of game while trying to draw the defense offsides on a 4th down when the 5 yards doesn't affect a punt. Or pulling down a receiver when a cb knows he's getting burned on a double move with no safety help. Intentional fouls, but more commonplace.
Well, really, it only compounds the Harbough as douche meme. Because he had this move in his history when he was whining about the Pats (and IMO, they're thing was far more in keeping with the actual spirit of the game than his was).

Ravens’ Controversial Final Play Is In Patriots’ Playbook, Bill Belichick Says

Patriots coach Bill Belichick was asked about Harbaugh’s bold play call Monday during an interview with WEEI’s “Dale & Holley.” He approved.

“I think that’s in everybody’s playbook,” Belichick said. “If you’re going to take the safety, then you don’t care about the holding penalty, so as much time as you can run off the clock, you run it off.”

Belichick pointed to a similar play that took place earlier this month during a game between the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints.

I like that Belichick subverted Harbawl's "genius" by tacitly endorsing it, knowing that the "Belichick Seal of Approval" on creative rulebook application is the last thing the crybaby would want from a PR standpoint. More than that, by saying that every team has that play in their playbook, he reduces the "singular genius" of the play, making it seem commonplace.

Simple fix. Change the rule as follows:

A half cannot end on a penalty to the defense, or to the offense on fourth down.
Please, no more rule changes!!!! They need to tear up the rule book and pare it down. Let them play football. Football is getting to be like the public, the teams need a safe place. JEEZ

Right...because nothing says justice like injuring a kicker. o_O
Speaking as a referee, players want three things --- Consistency, justice and their knees intact. Good referees will deliver consistency and justice to keep knees intact. If players think they are getting screwed on the justice side, they will take the matter into their own hand and start looking to impose penalties for in-game injustice until the undesired behavior stops.

If the referees can't deliver consistency and justice, players will mete out their own justice.

It's within the rules. Belichick said on EEI that every team has it in their playbook. Until it's made illegal, what's the big deal?

Sorry -- Ravens already have an idea for a new rule change, one that shockingly enough would benefit them the most:

Ravens propose a bonus point for kickoffs through the uprights

Ravens coach John Harbaugh and kicker Justin Tucker said this week that they want the NFL to adopt a new rule that would give the kicking team one point for putting a kickoff through the uprights.

For some reason when I read that I pictured you shaken your head slowly with tear coming down your face. I don't know why....but I'm still laughing at the image in my head.

Well at least you're not being melodramatic. ;)
