It's not just about being precise, it's about allowing your receivers to get into open territory and make a play. If that can't happen, there is no harm in a deep ball gone to far. It's akin to throwing one out of bounds on a blitz. The mindset is that the defense has to respect the deep ball, cause this QB is gonna throw it. The result is that our run game and short passing game benefit. Dink and Dunk can only happen if the other barn door is left wide open.

Well said....

Some years I feel like the Pats have gone into games with defenses treating their offense like they are always at the goal line no matter where they are on the field.

Agree 100% with all that. It's what the "dink and dunk" System QB....clowns don't seem to get. Brady's genius is his pre-snap reads making sure they are in the right play. I always find myself explaining to people that Brady getting rid of the ball so fast isn't so much physical as mental. He knows where he is going with the ball before the ball is even snapped.

I was simply pointing out that it would be nice to have some guys that could kick that extra safety out of the box and leave some room for error a few times a game where Brady can take some chances without having to be perfect with his deeper throws

Ah, I got you now. I thought you were wishing he would throw up more 50/50 balls. I agree and have been pounding the table for one of those types for years. Hopefully Mitchell ends up bringing that skillset to the table.

I hate the Dink and Dunk idea for Brady, but it is not wrong if you watch a full Pats game. He does get underneath throws to extend a drive. Hell, Gorrop did it the other night, a few times. What separates Brady is the fact that he cannot be challenged by an honest to goodness blitz, you have to create formations in the backfield that confuses his receivers, ala Welker back in 2011. That's why Edelman is so much better than Welker in the sense that Edelman can separate from the DB and communicate with his QB. Welker couldn't in the long run. It's the same reason Gronk is so good, separate the man from the intended target area. and let him play his game. Mark Bavaro would have killed it in BB's offense.

Friends don't let friends' teams hire the Ryans.

"Friends don't let friends' teams hire these Ryans." Fixed it for you, since I'm a 'Ryan' myself (there's like what 4 million of em in the Boston area alone?) - gotta stand up for the family crest even if these two do make me want to hide it an an old cellar most of the time.

I gotta say.....I does piss me off when I watch Fitzpatrick just throw the ball up for grabs down the field to guys on the outside like Marshall and Decker.

Guys like Flacco and Rothlisberger have made careers of that - on Pittsburgh they've relied on WR speed and in Baltimore size (and speed in a couple cases). It's also why a VERY exploitable "Tampa-2" scheme remains a league staple - to capitalize on deep throws like that.
