Patriots sign WR Chris Hogan

Keshawn Martin is a marginal #4 WR and a good #5 seriously him and Dropson can fight it out. Martin has never proven that he's a capable #3 he is what he is.
Agreed

For those who claim BB is smart for not chasing and overpaying players, please explain to me how 4M/yr. to a guy who’s been on 4 different practice squads, and has 1 (ONE) TD reception under his belt, makes sense. PLEASE EXPLAIN. If you ask me, this is Scott Chandler experiment all over again.
These are questions the realists ask....while the blind followers say "in BB we trust". Really major head shaking move here

Still need to draft a WR.

Hoping for the best as usual for Colonel Hogan.

I thought 4m/yr was high for Hogan. I mean he averages 450yds/season. Patriots overpaid this guy.

Dunno what BillB was thinking here.

"Holy mother of God! Have you people seen the steaming pile that is our WR corps? We've got to do something..."

- What BillB was thinking.

This is not true, not in the slightest. A "realist" as you put it, has a handle on the economics of the NFL. He or she understands the Patriots have some major contract extensions in the coming seasons and even in light of an increase in the cap number, that needs to be managed. Let us not forget dead cap money. There's another sunk expense to be considered.

I'm fine with the Patriots pay their own first mentality. Roster composition, especially in US sports, is fluid. It would be nice to be able to go out and get top of the market guys but why are you going to invest more than what you want just because the market dictates it? That's not smart, not in the slightest.

No. Those are the questions that the uninformed ask. Not the realists. Realists actually go out and get the proper information before making ridiculous statements about players..

Being on 4 different practice squads means that teams want you. He was amongst the last cuts for the 49ers out of TC in 2011 and the Phins in 2012. Both times, he was signed to the PS only to be cut a week or two later.

@dannydyn was wrong about the number of TDs Hogan has. He had 4 in 2014 and 2 last year. It should be noted that Hogan was still 4th on the Bills in terms of number of receptions. And that was despite them adding Harvin and McCoy. And it was the additions of Harvin and McCoy that partially led to Hogan having fewer TD catches..

Jeff Howe reviewed numerous games Hogan played in and found that Hogan lives up to his nickname "7/11". He always open.

Why doesn't he get the ball more? That's easy. Taylor and Manuel were too busy trying to run the ball or not doing their progressions.

hey @stcjones - If you are going to disagree, the least you could do is man up and say why. Or is that asking too much of you? Otherwise, you going through all my posts and disagreeing with them makes you look like a child throwing a temper tantrum.

I hate it when people do that.

The offense was rolling until Edelman and Amendola were both injured at the same time. Then Pats started losing games, which ended up in the end costing them HFA and another SB win.

Hogan signing makes a lot of sense, he is insurance for that worst-case scenario when Edelman and Amendola are injured at the same time, and there is no one to take their place. He is another option for those quick 4-5 yard routes that are Brady's bread and butter. Edelman and Amendola are a good fit for the Pats offense, but they are injury prone.

I am not sold on this guy, I never seen him being a playmaker. Anyways we will see what he does in training camp. I still think we are overpaying this guy.
i just want a guy who can get open and catch the ball. That is my playmaker. We are not going to get a Randy Moss so im not concerned. This is a good pick up and he will put up better numbers with the Pats

Too much money. Great workouts sure, but can he produce on the field? He hasn't shown he can. We needed to go after a WR who can stretch the field, which will open up the underneath passing game. Hogan cannot do that. I don't think our offense is complete. One injury to gronk or Edelman and our offense becomes very mediocre.

People are acting like the Patriots are decimated at the receiver position, when they're returning a roster that, when healthy, was putting up historic offensive numbers just last year. Not many teams have three pass-catchers as good as Gronk, Edelman and Lewis. This is a #4 or #5 option they're looking for. Hogan is young, has physical tools, size and upside, and has a record of good recent performance - what's the problem? He's not Mike Wallace?

2007 really ruined this fan base. Even if the team scores 35 points a game, the whole region goes into fits if we don't bring in Randy Moss in the offseason. I miss the days when the fans here were proud of getting it done with guys like David Givens.

I'm fine with the signing and the price paid ... a strong good size player which is nice.

Drafting a WR that can step right in is simply not an option for this offense ...

Why is that? If we are incapable of drafting a good WR then perhaps we need to change something in the front office to allow us to scout wrs better

Not only that but a WR that can mentally process the information given to him via the playbook but also adjust accordingly to what they see on the field.

Second to QB its the hardest position to learn on the team.

I'm sorry that's just too much money, what has he done to earn 7.5 in guaranteed money? Where are his good stats to back up that kind of money?
