That's the Catch-22. Once you've researched an unknown, he's not an unknown anymore and thus can't be an unknown prospect.

With two weeks to go, it's time for our annual exercise in humility: Flying Fungi's classic Draft Day Challenge.

The Patriots have 10 picks. Name 10 players you think are likeliest to be chosen. Round and order don't matter, a 7th-round hit counts as much as a 1st.

This format leads to some interesting strategic choices. Some mock out the whole draft and try to pick the likeliest players at each of the 10 slots. Others load up on particular positions or day-one targets. But regardless of approach, past experience tells us that any score above 1 is outstanding. 'Cause, you know, it's the Patriots.

Ladies and Gentlemen, start your predictions!

It is still too early for me to join the humiliation train but I promise I will, never too much humility to go around.

I use NFLDraftScout.com for most of my research and overall think they provide the most comprehensive player evaluations. In prep for the pick 10 contest I looked at the past 2 drafts to see where the players picked by the Patriots where ranked. If gives you an idea of how hard is to predict.

Negative numbers indicate a "reach" by their standards and positive numbers indicate "value".

Interesting to see that nfldraftscout had O'Callahan as a minor reach....most draftniks around the league thought he was a steal there.

I find it even harder to believe NFL draft scout had Andy Stokes ranked #138 or something. I don't know anybody who had heard of him before.

Andy Stokes and Adam Bergen aren't the same person. Bergen's a decent #2 TE in Arizona. He was fairly well regarded in the draft.

Stokes went to a non-NCAA school...William Penn, I believe.

Here goes..Player and best guess at the round selected

WARNING, I am 0-three years in these guesses, so if you like any of these guys, chances are they are not going to be sporting a flying Elvis anytime soon.......

Paul Posluszny LB, Penn State (1)- hurt this year, 4 time academic all-american, Butkus award winner, an absolute steal at the end of the first round, everything about him, says BB LB.

Buster Davis LB, Florida State(3)-Zach Thomas clone

Zak DeOssie LB Brown (4)- from water boy to Pats player, thankfully taking this role away from Ken Walter!!!

Michael Griffin S, Texas (1)- from Football's Future...
Michael Griffin is as intelligent and aggressive as any safety in this draft. He quickly diagnoses the play and gets to the action whether it is a run or pass. He flies toward the action, and lays players out as if he were much bigger. In pass coverage, he has the athleticism to cover and ball skills to make plays on the ball. Griffin is also a fantastic special teamer. He possesses the knack for blocking punts, as he has blocked six in his career.
Nuff said

Tanard Jackson CB,Syracuse (4)-gotta have the obligatory Orange(man) in my predictions. He is the physical style player that the Pats love.

Michael Bush RB, Louisville (2) (I know that we don't have a 2nd, but I have a funny feeling that we may trade into the second round). Let me put this out there, this guy is a truck!!!! He will be an outstanding RB in the NFL. Broke his leg in game #1 this year, visiting with the Pats as I type and pronounced fully healed.

Darius Walker RB, Notre Dame (6)- Kevin Faulk clone, plus knows the offense. BB has a history of drafting players from programs coached by his protegee(s).

Jared Zabransky QB (DB), Boise State(6)-anyone who can lead a team like Boise States to an undefeated season deserves a shot, does not have the ability to be a starting QB in the NFL, however could be made into a Saftey/Emergency QB.

Daniel Sepulveda P, Baylor(6)-great leg, the best Punter in the draft.

Jeff Samardjiza WR, Notre Dame(7)-BB consults Red from the grave and finds a way to pull a Danny Ainge!!!, Seriously why not take a flyer with this pick, it is not like the 260th pick in the draft is going to make this team.

Damn, really screwed that up. You are correct sir.

Stokes was Rated number 46 out of 73 TE's unranked out of / 1451 TOTAL players in 05.

Can we edit this as the draft get's closer? My thoughts:
Joe Staley
Josh Gattis
Daymeion Hughes
Justice Hairston
Stewart Bradley
Zak DeOssie
Rhema Mcknight
Fred Bennett
Joe Newton
Usama Young (didn't think I'd leave him out, did you?)
