Now, the 10 undeniable truths of the 2006 season.

2. The truth is that Nick Saban, who learned NFL defenses under Belichick, will catch or pass the Patriots in the next year. If Daunte Culpepper continues to make his miraculous comeback from triple knee ligament surgery, the Dolphins could catch the Patriots this year. The Patriots are showing signs of slowing down, even though they should win 11 games with a much easier schedule than they had in 2005. Except for Tom Brady and Richard Seymour, the Patriots' roster is running out of Pro Bowl-caliber players. In contrast, Saban is assembling a big, physical team and has a quarterback in Culpepper who can compete with Brady. Saban surprised many by winning nine games as a first-year coach. Coming out of LSU, Saban was about as sure a lock to be a successful NFL coach as we've seen in the past 10 years. He's bright. He's tough. He devises winning game plans. He's building a winner in Miami. The Dolphins-Patriots battles should be good for years with Belichick and Saban going at it. Saban can't get too lax, though, because the Patriots had a good draft. If Miami slips for a year or two, the Pats will be back challenging for the AFC East.

So first we were good because we didnt have any pro bowlers and were just a team. Now we are not good because we dont have pro bowlers and are just a team?

The pats will be back challenging for AFC east? Um shouldnt it be the other AFC east teams challenging us. Unless ofcourse it was the phins who won 3 superbowls in 4 years.

It only makes the victory sweeter.

By the way, we're the three time champs, they're the rebuilders.

Why did we have much better draft picks??

Oh, I forgot, NFL teams are built on high priced free agents. :p

Fumbles McGee can compete with Brady? Oh well, at least he acknowledged the fact that the Pats had a good draft. I'm not sure how many Pro Bowlers we lost this past offseason though? Vinatieri..... didn't some NY writer say something about Matt Chatham being a potential pro bowler?

Let's get this season started.

Where did we go?? DId I miss something?? ALL of a sudden, "If Miami slips for a year or two, the Pats will be back challenging for the AFC East"

Normally, a team has to not win the division in order to mount a comeback? John Clayton, are you smokin that stuff that Ricky used too??

Re: Add Clayton to the post season "ridicule" list???

Where do experts get this idea that we're slowing down? Sure, we didn't win the last Super Bowl, but neither did the Colts, Panthers or Seahawks, all of whom have equally legitimate or MORE legitimate (in the case of the Colts) reasons to be slowing down but are still being hyped highly.

As sure as an old lady seeing Jesus in a piece of toast, your football savior will have a miraculous recovery by July. It's the relapse in September that's a *****.:rocker:

I guess we're forgetting how the Dolphins' lack of 2006 draft choices will help them too.

I thought this was hilarious myself when I read it. Maybe Clayton is really aqua4ever.

Re: Add Clayton to the post season "ridicule" list???

My favorite part was:
8. Peyton Manning will have his best postseason thanks to the league's recent rule change that allows quarterbacks to handle the balls prior to games. This is huge. Quarterbacks won't be able to practice with them, but they'll be given game balls early enough during the week that they'll be able to rub them down and make them easier to grip. The process will continue through the conference championship games. Manning can't blame slick footballs for his poor play in playoff games, and he will have a comfort level in those games he's never had before. A confident Manning is a dangerous Manning because few quarterbacks can get on a roll as well as he can. Manning needs to get through his playoff struggles, and this little change will help.
Wow, every year the Dolts or their apologetic media rumpswabs come up with a new excuse. First DBs were too physical, then all they needed was home field advantage, and NOW we finally find out that after all this time the problem was really slick balls!

Darn, now we're realllly in trouble. Paymetons being able to handle his balls before the games is a scary thought indeed.

:D

I sure hope James Lavin is copying all of these down. He could fill up all of a volume 4 with these.

Re: Add Clayton to the post season "ridicule" list???

When are you guys going to stop crying about all these bad reviews on the upcomming season, and just realize the Fins are a team not to be reckoned with? Wake up guys, John Clayton is as good of a writter there is and you can't call him a "moron" for his picks. Maybe you just need to realize there is a slight possibility that the Pats aren't going to win the AFC East.

I sure hope someday I do have Clayton's job. He is the best football writter this league has to offer and I enjoy reading ever peice he writes.

First intelligent thing you've said. Nobody reckons the Doophins will amount to anything, and definately do not bother recokoning with them when it comes time to gameplan for future opponents.

I'm not sure why we should trust the judgment of a guy who just posted "John Clayton is as good of a writter there is." (And I'm not talking about the "writter" typo.) Take your "as good of a"s and get out.

This is a Patriots board. Why do you even bother? Did you get banned from all of the Dolphins boards?

People here realize that it's a possibility that the Patriots don't win the AFC East, but they also realize that there are reasons that it is unlikely. The Dolphins' offensive line is suspect, they have one good WR, their defense is getting older and their new "franchise QB" is coming off what was looking to be his worst year ever before he got injured. The best case scenario: Culpepper returns to good form, Ronnie Brown is excellent, the defense plays above average and the offensive line is serviceable. The most likely scenario: Culpepper is okay, but not great, by Week 6, Ronnie Brown is good, the defense plays okay and the offensive line sucks again.

I could do a similar analysis for the Pats if you want, just so that you aren't concerned with me being a homer. Best case scenario: Brady has another Pro Bowl year, one of the RBs steps it up, Branch gets resigned before training camp and has his career year and one of the other WRs steps it up, the offensive line is great, the defensive line is great and the secondary puts its s*** together without getting inujured. The most likely scenario: Brady has a good year, one of the RBs steps it up, Branch has a good year and one of the other WRs steps it up, the offensive line is good, the defensive line is great and the secondary puts its s*** together.

Our "ifs" (i.e. if this happens, we'll play well) are much easer to achieve than yours. Your season depends on a recovering QB playing well, better play from an old defense and a surprising season from the offensive line. Our season depends on one of two main RB options playing at least above average, finding a single replacement at LB out of one of our many options, and the secondary not getting injured on a large scale again. You have to admit, our "ifs" are preferable to yours because they are more achieveable.

That's all I have to say.

Only the Fins could have a "review" before the season.

I love it!:D

Oh ease up on the kid. I was hard on troll-boy at first too. But after the repeated "your so vein" faux pas, and twice today believing that writer has two T's, never mind all the grammar, it's clear this kid does have a brain in his head, we'll just have to wait 'till he hits High School for him to have a grasp of Language Arts. I'm sure we can muddle through his posts and deduce his true meaning until then. At least those of us who haven't introduced his username to the ignore list.
