A Few things - RE: Moderation, etc.

Not open for further replies.
Just an FYI - my wife had family here, along with a situation that happened at home late last week that had me offline the last few days and I'm trying to get back up to speed. As is normally the case, when life becomes difficult here at home is usually when things go south in here...good times

That being said, I wanted to just catch people up on a few things:

RE: Moderation:

1) There are some things I'm working on regarding moderation in here that will be addressing a few recent issues. I will be creating an "ignore user in this thread" to make some user ignores thread-specific to try and give people a little more control. That means, you'll be able to ignore a select user within a given thread, which will only be for the duration of that thread if you'd rather not do a full ignore.

But some of the disagreements between people that carry over from thread to thread are unnecessary. It's getting old, and it's just irritating for anyone trying to follow a thread. So hopefully, that will be a step in the right direction. I believe I know how to implement it, so I'll test it out and hopefully get it done relatively soon.

2) On the above - we're supposed to be adults here. That aside, please utilize the ignore functions, especially if it's for a user you don't get along with. Seeing two names constantly bickering is frustrating because all it does is derail threads and it's pointless. Hopefully, adding the above feature will assist with part of that but it doesn't change the fact that people will still need to use whatever ignore functions are implemented. The mods and I can't be in every thread at every moment. So if I work to implement these things (and I'll obviously alert everyone as soon as it's up and running), please take advantage of them.

3) No, I'm not going to ban someone just because you don't like them or disagree with them. I get that there are some people who can be frustrating, but I don't ban anyone unless it reaches a point where they're causing a serious issue. Again, please use the ignore functions.

3) Starting threads with invalid stats from bad sources isn't permitted. If it's not a stat/fact-based post from a reputable source, please don't post it. We have enough issues around here during this rebuilding process than trusting an opinion piece from someone who doesn't closely follow the team and doesn't understand the additional dynamics, etc.

4) Excessive personal shots against users, especially at the level I've seen people escalate to recently, needs to stop. This is a single-warning, and I will begin suspending people when it occurs. That's not what we're about and I'm not going to allow it. It's completely unnecessary and I'm not tolerating it. We're better than that, and I won't allow it.

5) If I'm alerted to any PM harassment, it will also result in suspension and potential removal. So don't do it.

I will be trying to work on some of this during this week but obviously, it's going to take a little bit. At the same time, you guys can all PM me about any questions, concerns, etc. If I don't get back to you right away, I definitely will.

In the meantime, I appreciate your cooperation and let's try and get back to focusing on the upcoming season. We've got camp in like 90 days - it's finally a little closer ... thankfully ;)
Tried putting you on ignore but didn't take. What gives?

@Ian

If you put someone on ignore, I assume you can’t see their posts. Can they see your posts? I would never use it unless it covered both

Is there a list of sites we can use?
I think we should be able to post from a variety of sites because sports writers views are not the same.

Do we ban ESPN because Brady did not fall off the cliff? Weren’t they also the home of Craig Mortenson and the deflate gate story?

What about Peter King?
He didn’t like our draft
Is he ok?

Sportswriters post opinions & they each have their own opinion. Who decides what is legit ?

Didn’t we learn anything from Bidens appointing truth czar Scary Poppins ?

Thanks and I was about to send a message asking if you could do something like this. It's gets old and I don't want to ignore some posters but I really get sick of the back and forth and vitriol between some. The rest of us don't want to see it.

Summers go by so fast. Once we hit Memorial Day - a mere 2 weeks away, mind you - it's a short hop to the 4th of July... and then once that's done, we are counting down to camp.

You were probably too busy posting Buccaneers free agent moves.

Speaking of which.......

Ian, isn't it about time you pulled the plug on the Buccaneers forum?

It’s legit hilarious that the Tompa Gronka thread regulars don’t think there is anything strange about following the team of an ex-player so closely. Rooting for Brady and watching the Bucs every week is understandable (I don’t but I get why some Pats fans do) but what goes on in that thread (following every roster move, discussing how Tampa matches up with their 2022 opponents, recent changes to the TB 12 method) has never occurred in the history of major professional sports fan sites.

Dozens of “Pats fans” have now adopted the Bucs as their favorite team. Pathetic. Most here would have been laughing at the Colts fans if they had done the same for Manning/The Broncos.

These are actual recent posts:

It is amazing how much more forward I am looking forward to the Bucs season than the Pats. What a terrible draft by Bill.

Thank god for Brady coming back I swear to god. That’s all I can say.

Most of the regulars in that thread should be treated no differently than Jets fans trolls at this point. Imagine any of those front-running, GOAT-obsessed (yes OBSESSED) posters during the late 80s/early 90s years. LOL. They aren’t ex-Pats fans. They are never-were Pats fans.

FIFY. because you’re right.

Good Lord - I don't even want to get into that. I'm just saying it's the equivalent of someone on a Detroit Lions board taking my opinion about their players and my rankings as being up there with Reiss or one of those guys. I'm a nobody, just like the person you quoted.

At the same time, it would have been different if he had written something with facts and numbers to back up his opinions breaking down all of them so we could have a legitimate conversation. But just ranking them how he saw them just created an argument in here that wasn't necessary.

To your point, facts - not opinions - are what makes something legitimate. If a receiver trio's stat totals are indeed close to last in the league production-wise, then I guess you could have the discussion because the numbers wouldn't lie. But he just thought they were just a terrible trio, which just started an argument in here and it isn't the same thing.

Posting things from elsewhere isn't the issue, and that's not what I'm saying. But starting an OP based on something that isn't accurate just isn't a great way to go and it leads to a chaotic mess, which is sort of what happened. Not your fault, because it's something that hasn't come up before and unlike when we all got here (you've also been around for a long, long time), the internet is far more full of sites like those compared to when our little corner of things started.

In all honesty, they just may have - we just didn't really pay attention. When Manning came back and started winning with Denver and the Colts were struggling, I can tell you for a fact that a ton of Colts fans jumped on that bandwagon. Did they follow the Broncos, transactions, etc. as closely? That I don't know, but I'd be willing to bet there were.

And a lot of us followed Brady and rooted for him during that 7-9 season when we had nothing else to look forward to. Keep in mind, the guy was here for 20-years and he gave us a ton of great memories. I hate the way it ended, but I wish him well - unless we're obviously playing them.

It's a strange dynamic, but "it is what it is". And I'm not going to fault people who want to follow him. It is a little strange how some can't just root for both and there's a lot of venom sent in either direction, but given how things have evolved online, not a whole lot seems to surprise me anymore, as disappointing as that sounds.

LOL, your signature is killing me BTW. Belichick knows the name of every single player every single week. Fisher was naming guys who hadn't been on the roster in years and he did it on a Wednesday, well after the game plan should have been in place.

The guy should have been fired on the spot.

That to this day continues to blow my mind and it definitely explains his entire career as a coach. To be that unprepared is inexcusable, and I don't think I'll ever, ever forget that. I get the point you're trying to make, but the comparison - aside from record - isn't close. He was - and is - really, really bad and it makes you wonder how many really great rosters he squandered because of it.

Hope up, did cupofjoe agree with me on something to the extent that he liked my post?

I’d like to see more support of the Pats - be fans not critics. If you want to criticize something specific, fine, but some posters here are full time critics. I get enough of Felger on tv, I want to interact with hard core fans here. It’s not like we’ve in the desert the last 20 years, so stop acting like Lions fans.

Sorry, forgot to answer this.

There will be both a block and an ignore function. So if they're just ignored, they can see your posts, they'll just be muted on your feed. If they're blocked, it will be both - you won't see their posts and they won't see your posts.

Ian

Thanks, Ian, for all you do for us!

LOL COJ, I have a few on ignore, and came here on the phone not signed in. One of the guys I ignore follows me around, despite months of me ignoring him, taking shots at my posts

So yeah, it's asymmetric... but who cares

Thanks for the reply, and I will follow the rules to the best of my ability

Saying the list is wrong is nothing more than your opinion.

2021 - PFF had the Patriots receivers ranked #26

NFL.com had them at #27

Is that really a stretch from #29?
The problem is Patsfans has too many homers who never except any type of criticism against the patriots

I posted that Belichick has done a lousy job drafting DB’s in the second round & received many negative posts.

Do you think we have done a good job drafting DB’s in round#2 ?

I respect you, but I am always going to tell you what’s on my mind. There are already enough obsequious Ian loving members on Patsfans

@Ian we are lucky you're so nuts that you do this for all of us. It is hugely appreciated.
LOL, I think if I didn't do this, I'd drive my wife nuts since I'd have nothing else to keep me occupied. I'm just glad we have Mac and at least have a season to look forward to. I don't know what this would be like if we turned into the Lions or someone like that ... pretty sure that would be fairly awful ;)

I've been trying to toughen up for the day that happens. I figure I officially owe the football gods any amount of suffering, even JETE level suffering, for the last 20 years. But the football gods, fortunately, like us more than that.

I appreciate that, and as I've said in the past, I prefer people who tell me what I'm doing wrong vs what I'm doing right. Can't make things better without hearing what people think is wrong with this place. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate kind words from people, but 99% of the changes that have happened in here in the last 20-years+ have come based on suggestions and/or complaints. Without those, it won't continue to evolve and my ideas certainly are not always the greatest/most helpful.

And yes, I do encourage people to speak their minds. And the article you just posted was more insightful and provided some better facts, which is obviously a little easier to work with. And I'm obviously cool with criticism about the team as long as we can have good discussions around it. That's essentially the only real point I was trying to make.

But yes, keep the criticisms coming. Always enjoy hearing those and they're definitely necessary ;)

"I’d like to see more support of the Pats - be fans not critics."
"I'd like to see less support of the Pats - be reasonable fans not honks."

That sword cuts both ways.
