Steve Young has always been very tough on the Patriots and Bill Belichick. Yesterday, it was as if he had had a Revelation, on the way to Tarsus.
His diagnosis of Belichick's reasons for cancelling the visits of Rattay and Simms, was a thoughtful opinion, that would have undermined Cassel's confidence, to no good purpose. Bill had decided that Cassel was good enough to win with, even before he had any experience to verify it. Plus I liked the opinions that Belichick had not stripped down the Offense and was using the entire Offense, forcing Cassel to grow in all aspects of the QB role, no matter how tough.
His (their) opinion that Belichick was building for the end of the season with Cassel; even it it hurt in the meantime. Jaws concurred, with that analysis, too. Belichick was treating the early regular season as nothing but an advanced Training Camp!
There has been little as encouraging as these analyses by two very good football leaders and QBs. It seems to them that Belichick expects that he will have a winning season with MC; and is prepping him for playoff competition. Meanwhile the early regular season record is .667 ball at 4-2.
That has to be very encouraging for a Patriot fan, in this Winter of our Discontent.
