The Pats don't blitz early on this season. They have played conservative to prevent the big play, and also because it favors our defensive units up front. Blitzing the front 7 relentlessly (not resently, Menlo) would potentially tire them out by the 4th quarter (as someone said earlier in this thread), when you want them on top of their game.
Let the opposing QB get comfortable and see what he can do against a conservative defense. If it comes down to a fourth quarter drive and he finds his team tied or losing to the pats, he feels a lot of psychological pressure as is, exacerbated by potential blitzing called from BB/Pees.
Just because the defense is not as appealing as our offense this year, or because it hasn't been as dominant as it has been in the past, does not mean it still is not a great defense.
