Will BB blitz?

The Pats don't blitz early on this season. They have played conservative to prevent the big play, and also because it favors our defensive units up front. Blitzing the front 7 relentlessly (not resently, Menlo) would potentially tire them out by the 4th quarter (as someone said earlier in this thread), when you want them on top of their game.

Let the opposing QB get comfortable and see what he can do against a conservative defense. If it comes down to a fourth quarter drive and he finds his team tied or losing to the pats, he feels a lot of psychological pressure as is, exacerbated by potential blitzing called from BB/Pees.

Just because the defense is not as appealing as our offense this year, or because it hasn't been as dominant as it has been in the past, does not mean it still is not a great defense.

Another good post in what seems to be a pretty inane thread, have to remember that the Pats were rated #4 defense in the NFL.. not too shabby..
DVOA has them pretty high.. Aikman ratings has them at #3 Defense in the NFL..

It if is not broke do not fix it.. there are sometimes a lot of yards allowed, but those yards do not count in the final score..

Great points. I think the Pats defensive philosophy this year is directly related to what happened in the AFC Championship game last year, when the Pats played full tilt in the first half and had nothing left in the second as Manning tore them to pieces. Belichick/Peas know the limits of this defense and have used it perfectly to compliment the offense....I don't expect much change, nor do I think its a good idea with this particular defense.

This team's weakness on defense is pass coverage by the inside linebackers and the safeties. Why would you want to expose that any more than necessary against quarterbacks who aren't all that great?
