Yes, this is an old topic that should be looong dead, but this is news to Tebow-Patriots.

And I don't blame them. 99.999% of all NFL media screams that Peyton is the best ever.

And I don't blame them for being Tebow fans. ****** happens.

So for veteran posters saying, "WE KNOW. WHY ARE YOU REHASHING THIS CRAP?" -you are right.

Perhaps you can add stuff I forgot for new posters:

Brady used to have the rings and Peyton had the records. Brady went to Super Bowls with limited offensive weapons. Peyton had better offensive weapons and had better regular seasons.

Then 2007 happened. Brady got offensive weapons equal to Manning's. Suddenly Brady breaks records.

Oh on 2008 Cassel going 11-5 "proving" Brady was not as vital as Belichick. Mostly the same team the year before was 16-0. Brady was first seed, Cassel was out of the playoffs. Brady beat the AFC North and NFC East, Cassel struggled with the AFC and NFC West.

bady is better than peyton because this is a patriots forum, and not a broncos forum.

To be fair to Brady, Cassel didn't have nearly the statistics in 2008 that Brady did in 2007 against a more difficult schedule.

To be fair to Cassel, he's not really the reason the Patriots failed to make the playoffs that year.

Just out of curiousity, when Brady came back and went 10-6 and still had mostly the same team that had gone 16-0 for him, then 11-5 with Cassell, which divisions did he face then ?

I don't even know any more. Both quarterbacks are extremely well prepared, have perfect physical makeup for the position, read defenses better than anyone else in the league, have great accuracy and make few mistakes. Also they are both classic pocket passers. And they are both amazing leaders.

Is there really such a big difference, if any?

NFC South and AFC South. According to Football Outsiders, Brady faced the toughest pass defense schedule in the last 30 years. He was also putting up MVP numbers until around Week 10 when he broke his rib and finger.

Thanks for the info. :)

A lot of us Tebow-Patriots (that has a better ring than Tebots) are also Gator Alumni. There was never any love lost with Peyton when he was at Tennessee. One only has to look at post season playoff wins and SB rings to see that Tom is the better QB.

For those that didn't follow SEC ball in the 90's Danny Wuerffel was one year ahead of Peyton so they only met three times on the field.
1994 Fla 31 Tenn 0
1995 Fla 62 Tenn 37
1996 Fla 35 Tenn 29

In Peyton's senior year he faced Sr QB Noah Brindise (Noah who) :)
1997 Fla 33 Tenn 20

WHY????????????????????? ...this actually has to be explained??????????????????

here's the simple answer....Manning Face

NEXT!!!!!

Before you get into it, Brady was coming off an ACL. (This was before Adrian Peterson made an ACL injury "minor.":))

Oh Brady faced the AFC south and NFC south if you are just asking and not trying to make a point.

Oh, if you want to compare 11-5 of Cassel to 10-6 of Brady, let's add playoff positioning to the argument.:)

Easy to understand:

Brady is better, statistically, than Manning in games that are played...

indoors (despite them all being road games)
outdoors
in cold
in the heat
when it's a mild temperature
when it's raining
when it's snowing
when the sun is shining
when it's windy
when it's calm

Why are their career stats somewhat similar?

Because almost all QBs, including both Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, have better stats in absolutely perfect weather conditions. Manning, however, has experienced such conditions 10 times more often in his career. Brady has experienced outdoor conditions 10 times more often in his career.

What? The 2009 Patriots did away with:

Richard Seymour
Tedy Bruschi
Mike Vrabel
Junior Seau
Roosevelt Colvin
Ty Warren (IR in '09, cut in '10)
Jabar Gaffney
Donte Stallworth

Oh, and Moss and Rodney were a shell of their former selves, too.

That's 10 of 22 starters we're talking about....

Mostly the same team? Yeah, right.

Two thoughts:

(1) Football Outsiders put it in 2010 (with a slight modification by me): "They had the best offense at home, and the best offense on the road. They had the best offense from shotgun, and the best offense with the quarterback under center. They had the best offense before halftime, and the best offense after halftime. They had the best offense in a boat, and the best offense with a GOAT."

(2) If you look at it in terms of games played, rather than by year, Brady passed the Fivehead either late in his first season or early in his second, and the lead has only grown since.

Hmmm really? The same team. You know how many players left after the 08 season. Bruschi Vrabel Seymour Harrison, Gaffney among others. Not even close to the 07 or even 08 team.

Just one....

Being objective for a moment. Since starting 10-0 (3-0 in Super Bowls) in the postseason, Tom is 7-7 (0-2 in Super Bowls) with a 3-3 record in his last 6 home playoff games.

Why?

1 dropped pass and 1 caught pass and he is undefeated in the Super Bowl. But sometimes its not your day. He has the most playoff wins of any QB. It's the NFL, your gonna loose one time or another.

Being objective for a moment. Since starting 10-0 (3-0 in Super Bowls) in the postseason, Tom is 7-7 (0-2 in Super Bowls) with a 3-3 record in his last 6 home playoff games.

Why?

Start with "You can't expect to win every game"
Add in a dash of "Injuries (2007/2009/2011) haven't helped"
Toss in some "He's still 8-7 in non-SB winning seasons"

and you're well on the road to figuring it out.

For an excellent example of a similar player, Montana started off 7-1 and finished up 16-7, and was sub .500 (4-7) in years he did not win the Super Bowl.

Why?

That 7-7 record, which you're apparently mocking as pedestrian, is still better than Manning's 9-11 career record. And also Manning's SB year where he threw for 2 TD and 7 INT in the postseason.

But discounting 10 playoff wins and three SB titles is definitely objective, at any rate.
