With four second day comp picks, why not? The best value is in the second round, so I'll make those trades. The danger is falling asleep between picks. We've all said that there's no room for ten players. To me, it makes more sense getting rid of 3s, 4s, and 5s, than getting rid of the additional #1.
As I see it, once you take a Revis or Wilson at the end of round one, those three's and fours give you a more flexible menu selection:
S - Gattis, Piscitelli, Wendling, Payne, Stone, Alexander, Frampton...
LB - Moore, Robison, Waters, DeOssie...
OT - Otto, Taylor, Martin...
TE - Boss, Newton, Harline, Rosario...
OG/OC - Beekman, Datish, Harris, Vallos, Jones (IA), Ramierez...
DT - Johnson, Soliai, Alford, Mebane...
WR - Walker, Allison, Clowney, Myles, Taylor, McKnight...
CB - Davis, Young, Jackson, Mixon, Coe, Smith (FL)...
RB - Jackson, Bush, Walker, Smith, Henry...
QB - blah...
I'm less concerned with how many will make the roster, I'd rather bring in the deepest competition pool possible - we should be pulling each others hair out over which player is doing more to help himself and the team. Bam can get the third year Practice Squad slot, but he should be fighting for his life. The same with S.Thomas. Billy Yates too, who has to make the 53 to stick. The Pats currently have 68 or so on the roster. If memory serves, they can carry close to 90 players into Training Camp with the NFLE exemptions. There is room for competition at each position (including punter for the Sepulvada fans), with the greatest need for competition (to my thinking) at LB, S, RB, CB, OT, TE in that order.
I didn't try to forecast a trade down in MWP's dream mock, but getting Bradley at 24, followed by a trade back to mid-second and getting Wilson, with at least another third, does the most for me in this draft. Maybe I'll go mock MWP with a trade...
