What will it take to lock up Gronkowski?

He's singed THROUGH 2013. It's 2011. If he continues to perform to play at this level, they will most likely franchise him, if they can't resign him.

Why in the world are people concerned about this now?

It's a greater Boston, New England cultural thing. Can't savor success and always looking for the downside. Decades of regional cultural conditioning to the Red Sox loser mentality has made this region's fans and writers what they are.

Threads on Brady being over the hill proliferated this spring. Totally ignored the just ended unanimous MVP season.

LOL...... 3 year deal because it serves the pats? Don't think so......why would he ever do that when he will be able to get 8m per with more than double guaranteed? On vcurrent pace, he will be the highest paid TE in the NFL.....
Will be is like potential, sometimes you don't achieve it. He won't necessarily see that mega money here for another 2 or 3+ seasons (given the tag for TE's isn't killer...) He's on a 2nd round contract that is paying him less than $3M in total... He's in position because of his age, draft position and immediate production to begin to see the big bucks a lot sooner and still be prime for 2 more big deals... And if like a lot of these guys he wants to do things for his family, getting the bigger if not biggest bucks earlier has lots of appeal. He's a tough kid but his agent likely knows he's one or two more of those acrobatic TD's away from potentially never seeing the really big bucks...

If Brady wants WWW and GRONK for the rest of his career he will have to restructure his contract and or take a big pay cut if he agrees to a new deal.

TFB has more $$$ than God. He is a WINNER take the cut

It is in TFB's hands... if he agrees to a smaller deal we can do great stuff with the $$$ we save. The Cap will grow... but with it players will demand more $$$ b/c they know it is growing larger. It is a Catch 22:eek:

What is it with you and the histrionics? Brady's deal is fine, they always are, comes in right where the organization is comfortable as a % of cap...

Is there some vital reason why this question is being asked now???

It's something to discuss.

I've thought about it too. The Pats may very well have the best TE in football on their hands, and at the rate he's progressing, who knows what kind of salary he'll be able to demand from the team.

Again, it's just something to think about.

Pretty much. Brady's deal doesn't prevent them from signing any player they really want to have on the team. Anyone who believes that is extremely naive.

More then likely he will play out his rookie contract and he'll be perfectly fine with it.

God i hope they can keep both Gronk and Hernandez. I feel as if they let AH go...it actually hurts gronk. That and if he goes the jets WILL get him

Paranoia strikes deep...

his being in his prime for 2 deals is meaningless when it comes to the next deal....his current contract is meaningless when it comes to his new contract.

he's already achieving it......so change 'will be' to 'continues to be'......he local for the steelers, so I'm sure they'll be sniffing around him when it comes time. he'll get his money......and the pain inflicted on the offense will be much greater if he pulls a mankins....so there is obviously incentive for the pats to not wait until the end of the deal to extend him

I'm not worried....TE's of his caliber rarely change teams....that said, he will be coming up for a new deal at the same time as jimmy graham, so there will be precedence......

What will it take to lock up Gronkowski?

Approximately 38 more regular season games...
