We're on to Miami

Harpoon the Fins!

The New England Patriots have opened up as 10½ point favorites at home versus Miami in early ‘look-ahead’ advanced lines posted by the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook for NFL week eight.
After both teams won Sunday the line in most places dropped a full three points to 7½.

Apparently beating a two-win team from the league's worst division is more impressive than defeating a one-loss team with the league's best defense.

Sports Betting News and Vegas Odds

The Westgate (who set the original odds at 10½) is one of 29 (out of 34) places listed here that are now at 7½ points. Two are at 8 points, two are at 9 points, and one is down to seven points.

If it keeps dropping like this it may be worth investing a bit of play money.

Let me ask you guys...who on this team scares you? Landry is good and quick and I think can exploit our CBs a bit..so I hope they have an answer for him

Nobody. Sure, they're talented but they're still the Dolphins. More often than not, grace periods come to a thudding end.

Already mentioned it but I will again

Worried about

Landry
Matthews
Wake

Fast big play WRs who can attack our CBs and Wake who is a 1 man wrecking crew. He can take over games at times and get negative plays to end drives. To be honest Wake is who concerns me the most of anyone on their 53. I could see him coming out against us and having a day just like Greg Hardy did.

Not really worried about

Miller
Suh

Miller has had good games but he is not elite talent wise. Just play solid gap discipline and tackle and you stop him. Not really much of a 3rd down back even though he had that big catch last week. Suh is the 20M dollar man and has been playing well recently but his pass rush is not his stregth. He can clog the run lanes and try to push the middle all he wants though. The IOL has been overall good this year and though has allowed a few bad plays has never let a DT cause havoc and take over a game and I doubt they will this week against someone who is not a DT pass rush specialist. Run between the G and OT and not between the G and C (which they don't do much anyway).

I sure hope we get Dion Lewis back Thursday his explosiveness and overall threat on Offense was missed. That said James White did ok he caught three of five passes should have caught another that looked like a drop. Considering it was against the #1 Ranked D I would say James White did ok for himself.

Where can we exploit Miami Maybe?

On offense
#1 OL - This is the first OL we have faced in a while that has not been one of the league's top units. They have allowed 16 sacks and are spread out pretty evenly so they consistently let you get home on Tannehill. Also Tannehill is not the slowest QB in the NFL but he does not have the speed we have seen in the past few guys we have faced. You don't need to worry about him running 20 yards generally so you can pin your ears back more. There run blocking is okay but nothing special. The stats are inflated right now but they don't really blow you off the ball. Just play smart and scheme sound.

#2 3rd down RB - They don't really have a RB that catches besides Lamar and he is not really that good at it. Good for 1-2 grabs a game and usually not big if you just play disciplined. Not something you need to worry about

#3 Secondary - They have Grimes who is pretty good but the rest of it is average. Grimes is not exactly a shut down guy himself but I don't see they need to attack him when better options are there. Spread em out and pick on them with your very good 2nd 3rd and 4th options as match up dictates.

#4LB - I honestly can't name anyone on this unit. Not to say they are Jags but the fact I can remember any particular player probably speaks for itself.

#5 Coaching - He is just over his head. Campbell should not be an NFL head coach I think. Sure he can do the bump up speech but I don't think he understands X's and O's and game management. He just does not really have the backround in coaching experience a lot of other guys have. Whether he can make the right calls in a game... we will see. But he was never an O or D coordinator as far as I know at any level.

He still can't run for ****, but he's a pretty good receiving back.

If NE blocks Miami's front four, they should put up a 40 burger. It really is that simple.

Not a lot of data yet, but I see White as reliable but unspectacular, whereas Lewis--when healthy-- is a difference maker. The good news is that Lewis was apparently close on Sunday (game time decision with new plays installed Sun morning when he couldn't go). But he is still "limited" so who knows. Hightower was limited last week and you would never have known it from the film.

I'm under the impression that Dion Lewis is expected to play Thursday, but things can change

It's a short week and we were just in a "rock fight" game against the Jets while they pretty much had a bye week (unless you count that 2 quarters of football they had to play against the Texans).

We should win but I feel it may be closer than most seem to think.

They won 2 games so now they're apparently "for real."

BUT it was against the Titans and the Texans!

Or rather...

AND it was against the Titans and the Texans.

The Dolphins defense is one gapping much more now than they were at the beginning of the season and it has produced pretty good results. That said, it's also a very simplified scheme and Brady can typically rip through those. If the OL holds up, this could be a relatively comfortable win.

Andrews and whomever is at guard is going to have a tough day, such played a lot better on sunday

Am I the only one concerned about Suh or Verner taking a cheap shot at Brady?

Like really concerned..

Tannehill is a former WR and has legitimate speed. He's absolutely a threat to run, and I expect the Patriots to defend him like they defended Tyrod Taylor.

Considering just how porous that line is, I'd expect him to try to take off quite a bit.

I get the circumstances were different, but technically you guys only became a trainwreck in 2014 after you got whooped in Miami. Either way, the Pats have still generally handed it to the Phins and certainly anyone with some knowledge of the game wouldn't expect Miami to win Thurs in NE.

I'm just grateful for the way they've been playing the past two games. Against good teams or not, they've been on fire. Hopefully they can sustain that for the length of the season. I don't believe in moral victories, but if they can play well on Thursday and keep things close I'll be optimistic for the rest of the season.

How'd the 2nd game work out that year?

Nice 2nd half Miami had there.

No, but there's no need to worry about it. What makes Miami different from any other team?

Suh played here last year and didn't do anything. Don't know why Verner would make you any more nervous than anyone else.

If those are the tactics Miami resorts to, they'll lose, and their players will get thrown out. Simple.

I was trying to find out if they had gone back to one-gapping.. did you see this for yourself?

I would imagine that Campbell has them one-gapping again, and if so, this becomes an area of concern for us.

Has Suh ever even touched Brady when the two have played against one another? It seems like the guy never shows up against us.
