Just what the doctor ordered.
This guy can hit and hit hard...what we needed back there..a little intimidation
There are four plays in there that woud be calls personal fouls now.
Picking off M Vick can't be considered a highlight, how many people HAVNT picked off vick?
a 3 year deal for a 34 year old player? Yikes... Hes 34 years old, so I don't really expect him to be playing at a Pro Bowl level or anything.. still nice to get some veteran depth in our secondary though
Without knowing the structure of the deal, it can be hard to make a judgement on it. It may be a 3 year deal but in essence it is a 1-2 year deal which makes him easy to cut thereafter.
I'm pretty sure that it's a one year at a time deal. If he plays well in 2013 and the team thinks he can still play at a decent level in 2014, they will keep him.
One thing is for sure, this guy has had a helluva career. Numbers-wise, very similar to Rodney's.
This is a fantastic signing! He adds swagger to the defense, he certainly lays the wood. He can also play coverage LB in the nickel or dime sets. Adds lots of flexibility, big nickel anybody?
Remember all those problems covering tight ends last year???
I suspect he will play some type of hybrid role..
His veteran leadership is welcomed also..
Here is Wilson's interview with Men's Fitness for a year or so ago.

He's a good player. I like this signing a lot. The veteran leadership is a good thing. The younglings in the secondary need some guidance back there.
Isn't that why we drafted Tavon?
I'm not trying to derail this conversation into a Tavon Wilson was a horrible pick in round 2 thread, but doesn't the fact that we need to sign an aging veteran at safety say all we need to know about the poor value they got out of that pick?

no- Tavon was not drafted to be an intimidator
Re: Re: Welcome Adrian Wilson. You're Sorely Needed Here!
The wilsons are completely different players. One is an intimidator hybrid saftey/lb and the other is more a hybrid safety/cb
Field Yates also mentioned the LB role, which makes a lot of sense:

I think it has little to do with what the team thinks of Tavon, though I think he's got one heck of a role model to learn from now. Love this move.
The difference is Rodney was 31 when we got him, and Wilson will be 34 at the beginning of the season. I see this ending up a lot closer to the Victor Green experiment than the Rodney success.
This offseason is not starting off well at all. We don't have an even avg starting corner (Dennard can't count right now) on the roster. We sign a soon to be 34 yr old safety as an "impact" secondary player. The most productive WR on our roster is Brandon Lloyd, and we replace Welker with a china doll. And the saddest part of all is a Bills' castaway and the Steelers's 3rd WR is considered an upgrade to our receiving core.
I think there's more moves to be made with the wide receivers..at least I hope so.
I thought Tavon played some LB (or at least in the box) at illinois.
