Fumbrunner - If Cassel signed the one year deal, he can not be traded. What typically happens with a Franchise player is the teams discuss what the compensation will be in LIEU of the 2 1st round picks. Then, what happens is that the team who wants the franchise player negotiates a long term deal and then the player signs it. And the compensation that was agreed upon goes to the original team that put the Franchise tag on the player.
The 2 1st round picks is the compensation that would have to be paid if the teams didn't come to an agreement ahead of time.
Would the one year deal be transferrable upon a trade? If so, why would any team trade for Cassel with a 14 M price tag? I'm sure teams would be willing to offer Derek Anderson-type money, but not 14 M.
