Patriots' Redd trades in blue for black

    Excerpt:

    ---

Hopefully he'll continue to be game active throughout this season. Most of us would like to see what the coaches have seen during practice sessions. Specifically, the all-important edge rushing skills. Then maybe we can eliminate the position from the priority list of off-season needs.

Its very good.. Where Redd is short is his techniques.. But he is supposedly getting those down as well... It will be interesting to watch his development and that of Crable's next year..

I re-watched the Phins game twice on NFL Network, Woods was very close to almost sacking Chad a few times. One step faster he would of had Chad a couple of times.

I was just wanted to know if Redd might of had that extra step.

That extra step can be gotten by working on techniques.. Like turning your inside shoulder down to slip by the O-lineman the way Vrabel perfect over the years..

So, next year we will have Thomas, Vrabel and Woods at OLB; and also Redd and Crable in development.

    Disable Jersey

"The 6-foot-6-inch, 260-pound linebacker earned the right to don the special black jersey - a weekly honor bestowed to players who do exemplary work on the scout squad and prepare the team to win that week's game - by playing the role of Joey Porter in practice leading up to last Sunday's 48-28 romp over the Dolphins."

Astute observers of the Pats scene will note that this was NOT the 1st time Redd won the black jersey award. Rather than reading the pull it outa their posterior, uninformed or rumor based opinions of national pundits, there's nuggets of valuable information on players and BB's approach and inclination buried in news reports. Thanks to Seneschal2 for posting the thread.

The Black Jersey is all well and good. Kudos and and all of that. I took more notice of what Vrabel said:

I know that last bit sounds like a passive, blanket statement on guys who get promoted, but I also believe it's specifically about Redd. And the first line is pretty unmistakable. I believe we'll see him taking reps as early as the late second quarter this game, limited though they may be. Third and long would be my guess.

It appears that the Pats hit the bumper crop of UDFAs in 2008 - Guyton, BJGE, and now Redd. It's nice to get that much 'free' talent out of the draft pool.

Wood got his first start and he will improve more. pees did say he is very good in pass rush but reading run and dropping in coverage at game speed takes a season.
see to woods to resign with us next year. you know what vrabel ,ad and redd have in common. they are all near close to 270 lb big OLB. you need a quick fast and small OLB aka colvin type.woods cannot be compared as he is closer to colvin then vrabel. we miss the quick smaller OLB who line up against RT.

if we get AD back with vrabel ,redd and woods we will be 4 deep in OLB . i do not know where crabel will fit.guyton, mayo and bru in the middle leaves a spot for
rudd or a rookie to step in.with that we can carry 8 LB and 2 spl team specific LB.

    In fact, it's his fourth(!)

This is what one pro scout said--specifically in regards to Cassel--but I think it's more generally applicable than that:

    Disable Jersey

There were reports all season of Redd earning that honor. It shows a consistent pattern of hard work and the willingness to do what it takes. Apparently, the kid has the right attitude in addition to physical size. Contrast his blue collar approach to that of certain highly drafted wideouts. Contrast the effusive praise he receives from players vs the sounds of silence they received.

I also remember The Crab winning the black jersey.
