As of 11:00 pm 2-21 there is no report of any franchise tag placed upon Adalius Thomas. Contrary to another thread there is nobody reporting this that I can document. Anybody else find it?

I 100 percent agree with you.. No chance , its nice to dream ,but I think he goes west or south... Pats will not get into a bidding war for a 30 yr old LB

They got Colvin with a solid offer a few years ago. It's not out of the realm of possibility he doesn't come here.
I agree, Pats won't get into a bidding war. If he's available, I would tend to think if they want him and believe he fits their system, they'll bring him in and say " We would really love for you to come play with us. We have a figure in mind for you. If you accept it, you'll be looking at title shots every year". they'll leave it at that, see what he says and then go from there..

We all agree they have a plan B.. Pats are great thinking two or three steps ahead of everyone else!

Its not like this guy has a tatoo saying "PAY ME".. We really don't know what is running through his mind

Didn't ya'll think the same thing about Colvin? To high a price... Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Detriot offer him way more money, but he came here for less money to play for the Pats... You just never know... It's not over till it's over... I personally, would love to see him here... I think he would be a wonderful addition to the defense...

Thomas has been looking forward to this because this is his only chance for a big contract.

Colvin wasnt offered top money but came here because he wanted to play for a winner.

I have not heard those reports coming from Thomas or his people about wanting to play on a winner. I have heard about franchise tags and he wants more money than the Ravens are offering.

Seems money hungry to me. Considering the Ravens are already a good team.

could we please keep this a news thread instead of personal opinions on signings. you are more than welcome to start that type of thread on your own.

I just wanted to keep this thread accurate to the news sources, and not speculation or false reporting. Thanks:)

4 me I need to see quotes and links.. Nothing against u but there's another discussion in a thread about Kevin Curtis.. Someone says he is a rock solid 200 pounds and he is better than Branch.. Funny thing is I thought that until I looked up stats and noticed Branch is statistically better than Curtis..

Now back to our topic. When Colvin was a FA, him and Spikes were the two top FA LB out there. Colvin accepted less money that was on the table but he still made some serious cash.

Thomas probably doesn't want to be franchised because he loses out on the signing bonus.. In today's NFL, its all about SB and by getting franchised, u lose that..

If he's not on sports center or in national magazines saying "pay me". I'll lean towards a solid contract with a winning team..

Good point, digger. Let's keep this for FACTUAL updates. So far - 9:53 PM PST, no sign of the Franchise Tag on Adalius. It's a pipe dream, but it's good to keep those alive, every now and then.

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter if Thomas wants to be franchised or not. The fact is that Baltimore simply can't afford the franchise salary, even with the recent cuts they've made. They've made too much a financial commitment to Ray Ray, Reed, Ngata, and Suggs. They've said from Day 1 that they weren't going to franchise Thomas, yet nobody on any message board nor national media seemed to want to take them at their word.

What we see here is the anti-Colts. Polian would have franchised Thomas and worried about the consequences later. Newsome knows that for the medium and long term health of the Ravens, tagging Thomas would be a bad business decision. Let him walk, use the money elsewhere, and figure on a 3rd round comp pick next year.

Though I agree Branch is probably better than Curtis at this point in their careers, they also were in different situations.

Curtis has never been a starter in St. Louis because he is behind Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce. Branch would have been behind those guys as well if he had gone to St. Louis instead of NE.

When you put Curtis numbers in the context of how he was used, they are more impressive. He put up great numbers for a 3rd wideout.

Maybe the Pats can restructure a couple of contracts and use

the money as part of a deal for Thomas. Rosevelt Colvin comes to mind

    (6.4 million).

Doesn't matter, we still want him on the open market. The Pats are almost certain to be major hunters for LBs in free agency this year. The more high-level talent is available at the position, the better your chances at landing a Jarrett Johnson or Carlos Polk.

The thing about Thomas is he would fill the strong side OLB the best since Willie and he gives you the flexibility to move inside against quicker passing teams like the Colts so you can get as much speed on the field as possible. Assuming they bring Seau back, Junior and Tedy are great run stuffers still. Then you use an outside rotation of Thomas, Vrabel, and Colvin. In passing situations you bring in the 5th db and move Thomas inside and use Vrabel and Colvin outside.

Polk and Johnson are two others to look at but they wouldn't give you that flexibility that BB loves, and there's the draft but it's hard to expect rookies to contribute right away, it happens but you cannot count on it in this system.
