Donte wanted 19-0 based on that Tweet I'd say! (or at least a ring)

....and it's entirely possible with the offense that has been assembled and hopefully an improvement on the defensive side of the ball.

Re: The Patriots agree to a one-year deal with free-agent wide receiver Donte Stallwo

Nope! Instead of pissing away draft picks on wide receivers every other year, sign every potentially viable wide receiver in the unrestricted free agent market on a discount:

Wes Welker (Franchise Tag)
Brandon Lloyd
Donte Stallworth
Anthony Gonzalez

I would not doubt that Deion Branch will be re-signed by the end of the week...

...and that Stinko is released at the same time.

As far as Stallworth is concerned, I was hoping that he would've been signed after his time in the joint was completed in 2010; better late than never then, though I hope that 2 years older doesn't mean 2 years slower.

I do recall some plays he made in that game against the Redskins this last season that he displayed some speed at least.

Then again our secondary was so porous, you could chalk it up to that...

I would have preferred that they look at younger talent like Andre Caldwell, Early Doucet, and Legedu Naanee.

Those are indeed 3 of the better young WRs still available. Who knows, if they still haven't signed w/ anyone
by the end of the month - and by that time Bill has signed 1 or 2 of Wimbley, Anderson, Lawson & Carter -
then maybe there'll be enough cash in the register for one of those WRs.
Ted Ginn is another name to monitor, not so much for his receiving ability as for his return ability.

Re: The Patriots agree to a one-year deal with free-agent wide receiver Donte Stallwo

As long as we don't bring back Maroney, I'm cool with whoever from 2007 comes back.

No like Mr. Dance Dance Revolution? :D

Re: The Patriots agree to a one-year deal with free-agent wide receiver Donte Stallwo

Now they need to go Quick or Streeter in the draft if anyone of them are sitting for them in the 3rd or 4th round

Gronk
Welker
Lloyd
Hernandez
Gonzalez (assuming he stays healthy)
Stallworth
Streeter or Quick

Then you got Fells who is good for a 1st down every time he catches the ball averaged 12.1 a catch with Tebow.

Sorry, but NO WAY. We've wasted too many high picks on WR's the last few years, plus the stables pretty full. It's the one area of the draft where we've been the weakest. Get some big uglies.

Re: The Patriots agree to a one-year deal with free-agent wide receiver Donte Stallwo

So (assuming a contract for Branch) here is where we are:

6 spots for WR, 4 are a lock:

Welker
LLoyd
Edleman (versatility
Slater (versatility and all pro ST)

so for the final 2 spots

Ocho
Branch
Underwood
Stallworth
Gonzalez

5 guys competing for 2 slots.

I am really thinking we showcse Hoyer and go wih 2 QB's on the fial 53.

Is Edelman a lock? Brandon Boykin is predicted as a mid 2nd rounder in the draft - he's a better punt returner, actually specialises on defense but plays WR too. I could see them drafting Boykin and getting rid of Edelman to free up a WR slot. We probably get a higher upside player too.

Re: The Patriots agree to a one-year deal with free-agent wide receiver Donte Stallwo

When i saw the headline I honestly assumed something on patsfans had screwed up and I was back looking at 2007 threads.

....

I thought the exact same thing.

Re: The Patriots agree to a one-year deal with free-agent wide receiver Donte Stallwo

All right, this is getting ridiculous. Camp fodder if you ask me.

Re: The Patriots agree to a one-year deal with free-agent wide receiver Donte Stallwo

So, in addition to Stallworth probably making the team, I also wouldn't be surprised to see a round 2-3 pick spent on another WR.

I'm expecting one.

On a side note, I usually smile during the weekly post game happenings whenever an ex-Pat gives/receives the handshake/hug thingy from Belichick. Such was the case week 14 with Stallworth and BB. Mutual respect was evident then as it is now with this signing.

Stallworth can still stretch the field, Lloyd will be the intermediate threat that Ocho didn't provide, while Welker handles his usual short zone duties. There's your WR trio folks, leaving competition and/or familiarity/versatility to fill out the remaining WR slots.

no one is a lock. Slater isn't a wr, if anyone thought he had any chance they would have lined him up at wr during the super bowl when they had nothing there at all.

They are reporting denver wants something the Pats have, wouldn't be surprised if it was Welker they are going to try to get.

I think it's our two first rounders so they can use one on Wallace and still keep a first rounder. Also assuming they dump Tebow, they're without a backup QB. Hoyer might fit the bill as part of a trade.

Re: The Patriots agree to a one-year deal with free-agent wide receiver Donte Stallwo

I would much rather have Jabar Gaffney if he gets cut...but if Donte stallworth can find anything left, he should provide some solid depth.

Question is, what does this mean for Deon Branch?? im surprised we havent signed him yet...unless he Stallworh/Ocho are going to be competing for that #3 Wr spot

IMO

The Patriots have 5 WR spots, and only 2 are locked down.

Welker
Lloyd

Slater is a special teams guy. The other spots are up for grabs.

Didn't See This One Comin! If anything Brady should be pretty comfortable with add ons. McDaniels comin back as well as Stallworth/Welker 07 and Mac with Lloyd all incorperate a smooth system along with TEs could be a Well Oiled Machine.

Re: The Patriots agree to a one-year deal with free-agent wide receiver Donte Stallwo

I imagine McD coming back into the fold started something here.
BB on the phone said:
I'm thinking of putting the band back together. Maybe you could join us.

Re: The Patriots agree to a one-year deal with free-agent wide receiver Donte Stallwo

Remember how well he played against the Patriots? BB likes to sign players who play well against the Pats (as people keep saying on here!)

Sweet. I guess Osi, Justin, and JP are all in the China Town bus to Boston, then.

If only :(

Re: The Patriots agree to a one-year deal with free-agent wide receiver Donte Stallwo

I hear you, but he's only got 41 receptions in 3 years since his return. That would seem to be an indicator that his time is coming to an end. Maybe he'll reverse course, though.

I don't get the sense he's been healthy for long stretches of that time - I'm trying to remember a time since he left the Patriots that he HAS been injury free.

He has shown some flashes when he has been healthy, but I don't think any of us should hold his breath. He'll have every opportunity to show what he can still do in camp

But I'm officially of the mindset of letting em all fight it out in camp.
