The Official Patriots vs Cardinals POST game thread

There are two things that worry me more than the loss today: AH hurt pretty bad and possibly missing 4-6 weeks. And the Jets are playing very good right now, if any one of you are watching the steeler-jets game right now, they look like a completely different team right now. We might have some stiff competition this year. We suppose to have the easiest schedule this year, and I don't think so. Our defense finally looks remotely good. Meanwhile don't panic, the Saints are 0-2 to open the season, the giants almost lost again today as well....

Don't be so hard on Goskowski for the last kick. It was a bad hold with the ball angled instead of straight up and down. He did'nt have a chance

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that.

The Pats were very inconsistent today on offense. Some credit for that has to go to the Cardinals for that.

I thought that Ridley, Welker, Lloyd, Welker, and Edelman played very well.

Donald Thomas was pretty horrible today. He got beat on a stunt that led to a Brady Sack. And he got beat at least 2 other times that led to big losses for Ridley.

Logan Mankins showed he's human as well. He let Calais Campbell in for a Sack on Brady and Calais beat him to get to Ridley for a TFL.

Not sure why McDaniels called the draw to Woodhead on first down after the TD got called back. The Cardinals had it sniffed out and you could tell by the way Peterson was reacting..

The Pats need to rotate Brace in there more. Even if it's one or 2 snaps every series, I think it would be enough to let Wilfork and Love be fresher at the end of the game.

The Pats changed their Nickle Package and I don't think it was for the better.

Ninkovich had a good game. He was drawing doubles at time and forcing them back towards Kolb when Nink was at LDE. At RDE, he disappeared.

Pats missed a big opportunity on defense early in the game when there was the mis-communication between Chung and Hightower. Hightower should have let Chung take it. If he had, it likely would have been a TD since there were 3 other Pats there to block..

I'd like to see more of Brace and Deaderick. Love and Wilfork are both seeing to many snaps.

Ninkovich is not good enough to rush from the right side. They should keep him at left and use Cunningham at RE when they want to give Jones a blow.

I heard Gost tried to shoot himself after the game. He missed to the left.

Too soon? :yeeha:

it was just one of those bizarre games the pats get once or twice a year.

Actually the holding call was right on the money.....Scott Zolak agrees.

The refs didn't take anything away from us. The loss was a culmination of many things and to actually think the refs "didn't want us to win" sounds like....and I say this not to insult but to encourage some reflection.....how Oakland Raider fans react after a loss.

Sorry...had to say it.

The holding call on Gronk was BS. Otherwise, they should have called Holding or Pass Interference on Daryl Washington who held Gronk on the previous series and prevent Gronk from securing the ball. Or they should have called a PICK on Todd Heap who was BLOCKING 2 Patriots on the pass play to Andre Roberts before the Pass was even thrown.

That said, I agree, the refs didn't cost the Pats the game.. But lets not pretend they didn't have a hand in it.

Very nice summary. I'd add that I thought Solder had a good game, I don't remember him getting picked out for a missed block. So that's reassuring.

Also, Hightower and Spikes are the real deal. We might get to the point where Mayo is considered the weakest of the three backers. It's a seriously good trio.

could you highlight the nickle changes for me? I notice Ninkovich playing DT a few times but not sure what else.

Are you upset at the penalty or the calling of it, because it was the correct call. I think the fans were upset with the playcalling in the closing seconds of that half. Could have used that time to try and get in FG range but it was like they were too arrogant to. They were going to go to the locker room and regroup, only they didn't. And high ankle sprain can be worse than most breaks... But I imagine we will carry him on the roster since we have no other option with Schiancoe being designated as the short term IR designee after his two practices in camp.

It was an incorrect call. There was no hold- arms extended- and then he let go. I'm not a blind homer if there was a hold I'd be upset with Gronk because it was not needed.

They booed several times not just once. They sounded like a bunch of spoiled cry babies. It was probably 15% of the fans that were there but enough so it could be heard.

I'm not that upset with the loss - disappointed. But it was one of those days when in spite of giving a good effort, every thing turned to crap. And the Cards played very well, they are professionals and coached by professionals and those who thought this or any game is a cake walk, don't know what they are talking about.

that sucked....Brady could have gained 25 yards total running the ball on several plays, but instead had that Bledsoe deer in the headlights look and either got sacked or threw a duck out of bounds

Didn't Gronkowski have a handful of shirt? There was a bunch of lousy calls but that was spot on. Gronk had a nightmare in that last minute or so. I mean how do you false start on a taking the knee play?

It's never right to "blame" the Kicker, because it's not on him that the game comes down to one kick. In addition, once you're beyond 40 yards, there's a one in four chance that our guy misses the kick, which is about the same as any good Placekicker.

But, when the game is on the line, a Kicker has a chance to distinguish himself and show that he brings a little something extra to the table, especially with a longer, pressure-packed kick when conditions aren't perfect, either because of the snap-and-hold or the weather.

There is only one pure Kicker in Canton because very few Kickers get the chance consistently on the big stage to show that there is something different about them. That's why Adam Vinatieri will go to Canton and why many really good kickers with record book stats like Gostkowski, who miss kicks like today's, will never be in that discussion.

I just cant seem to understand why when facing an inferior team with a crappy back up QB our coaching staff puts together such a conservative game plan? Everybody knows Kolb will throw you the ball when under pressure so we play with a coverage gameplan until desperate. With that said the D played very well althoughh handcuffed. The offense stunk until the 4th quarter when we had to run the hurry up. Poor play calling especially on 2nd downs. I like having a run game but when you have a 100 mil $$ QB lets put the ball in his hands instead of Woody or a 2nd yr man. Just wish BB would grow a pair and play a more attaching style on both sides of the ball. He's done a great job assembling the talent now let em loose.

No more so than Todd Heap did on the Andre Roberts TD and no more so than the Cards O-line on numerous other plays. Plays in which it wasn't called. Sorry Mo.

OH, and I forgot to mention the holding on Washington when Gronk could and should have had the catch on the series prior.

Sometimes officials miss calls. Sometimes they invent calls. This wasn't one of them. Then he had the false start. That was the real killer. That and the decision not to at least try for a couple of more yards along the sideline. It's not there you throw it away. Instead we slid the ball sideways. Killed time before spiking it. And acted like a 42 yarder is a given. Those days are long gone. Although I think the hold had something to do with it as the ball appeared to be tipped noticibly forward.

Last week, they had Cunningham lining up at DT next to Wilfork or Love. This week, Cunningham didn't play much at all in the nickle packages.

I did notice that the Pats put Sterling Moore on the field in Dime situations over Marquice Cole (who took a terrible SP penalty)

lol...mods been busy

as much as we all hate to lose a game, id imagine the mods do so twice as much w/ the crap they have to sort out after a loss

thanks guys

Wish Brady could hit the deep ball like RGIII.........wow....the kid did it again

Someone just ask me this and I really could not answer him. If we have had our present kicker in the early 2000s, do we win our superbowls? I saw the kicker drinking water before the kick and just knew the pressure was too much for the guy.
