The 2016 NFL Mock Draft Thread

He's a big kid ain't he? Am I crazy for thinking James Develin would help us against Denver?
Yeah, I think AJ Derby has a legitimate shot of coming in and becoming a good part of this offense. No you are not crazy, I don't think Develins loss is looked at enough, he was a great fb/hback option and held his own blocking. Once I awhile could sneak in a reception or two ..esp in red zone. I'm a fan.

I'm fairly confident a healthy Develin makes the team next year.

As for Derby, no one's given up on him, but late round pick/UDFA + IR hasn't ended well for rookies in recent years (especially UDFA + IR), so who knows.

If they extend Cannon, i hope Brady retire. Thats football not MMA. His lacks of talent is gonna cost Brady a lot. He gets hits almost 20 times every game.Cannon is really really bad. He is a terrible G, garbage RT, awful LT. Why bother go after OBJ if the line cant hold a 3 guys blitz for 1.5 seconds. They really need to upgrade T position. For 2 reasons: Vollmer is getting old and Solder is only signed for 2 more years... and the backup is REALLY TERRIBLE.

He had a great camp under Scar in 2013 and also replaced Vollmer pretty well that year after we lost him due to his leg injury against Miami.

After Scar left it was all downhill..

I am not arguing that Cannon deserves a spot but that Scar really liked him and also was able to coach him up. Really wouldnt be surprised if he is still here come OTAs and TC.

Agree after Wendell and Connolly he was most underappreciated loss of the season.

On the o line, I really think mason grew a lot last season. At the beginning of the season, he could not pass block to save his life. By the end of the season, he was almost decent.

Jackson on the other hand was a complete disappointment in my book. He got worse as the season progressed. It could have been injuries, but I doubt we ever get the details for his decent into JAG.

So that brings me to OG Tetola of Arkansas at #60. Large man, but light on his feet. Natural road grader.

We have enough road-graders on this team. We need the next Logan Mankins & Nate Solder.

Then you are just repeating the same process over and over again. Rookies are use to a college schedule and not the length of a NFL season. Past history would show you BB has a system for O-linemen, Neal, Connolly, and Wendell. BB always says players are much better in year 2 than year 1.

Think we need to pump the brakes here.

Also do you think coaching was a factor?

Also if your going to use rookie a season against a player then you would have been short with Ty Warren, Wilfork, Hightower and so on.

In a defense as complicated as bb's, defenders need extra time to learn.

Offense on the other hand, especially interior o line guys have it much easier. Listen to the line call and read the d line on runs or listen to the line call and block whoever comes into your zone on pass protection.

But I am not saying Jackson is a bust. I am saying that he started out well but by season's end was JAG.

Not saying jackson won't have a better year next year, but if he does not, then Tetola might be a better 3rd OG option than Kline.

That's why I think we should shift Shaq to RG where I bought he looked better, keep Jackson as a backup and draft another athletic guard at LG. Whitehair and Westerman are those guys for me.

I am not sure I agree with investing into another pure guard unless its a round 4+ selection. I know it is easier said than done but I still think that the way to go would be to get an early tackle talent (Spriggs ?) that could play guard while being groomed as a T in the background. Complement this with 1-2 solid veteran guards via FA that dont break the bank and we should be fine.

I wouldn't break the bank, but I'd reach deep into it for Kelechi Osemele.

Post Combine/ Pre FA mock.

1.Sign Matt Forte
2. Sign Akiem Hicks
3.Sign Percy Harvin (?)
3. Keep LaFell (?)and Amendola. Would like to restructure Amendola
4. Release Dobson and Cannon.

? Not sure how I feel about either of these. I can see BB still being interested in a Harvin gamble but not sure where he fits on the roster. I don't see a ready made replacement for LaFell currently either. We should probably roll with him for another year.

Rnd 2: Shon Coleman, OT, Auburn

Won't work out before the draft so could easily fall to #60. An opportunity to get an OT with genuine 1st round upside.

Rnd 3a: Charles Tapper, DL, Oklahoma

Can play DE and 3-tech. Versatile, and athletic, piece on the DL.

Rnd 3B (comp): Jonathan Williams, RB, Arkansas

Future 3 down back. He's just too good a value so long as his medical checks out. Genuine 1st round ability RB if he plays up to his '14 tape.

Rnd 4a: Cyrus Jones, CB, Alabama

Good 3-Cone, good run defending corner, good returner and Alabama/SEC experience. Jones, Coleman and Ryan all offer interchangeable skills on the outside or in the slot to complement Richards' outside specialisation. Provides excellent depth to the secondary.

Rnd 5 (comp): Alex McCalister, LB, Florida

Undersized as a pass rusher but has a lot the Patriots like including very long arms (36"), elite quickness for the position (4.oo shuttle) and tremendous ability to bend the edge. Can play SLB in the meantime whilst hopefully bulking up and projecting to be a long-term Chandler Jones replacement. Some character questions need to be addressed however as he was dismissed from Florida towards the end of the year.

Rnd 6a: Devon Cajuste, WR/TE, Stanford

Have to love a 6'4" receiver with a 6.49 3-cone and Stanford pedigree to boot. Makes some outstanding diving grabs, is a legitimate red zone threat and could be developed into a Hernandez type TE with an extra 10lbs or so. He needs some work as a blocker and as a route runner but there's a lot to be interested in. It helps that his top comp on Mockdraftable is DeAndre Smelter (although Smelter was much better) :)

Rnd 6b (comp): Kevin Hogan, QB, Stanford

Very smart QB with the Stanford pedigree. There's a good chance Jimmy G gets traded at some point following Brady's extension so why not have the replacement backup in place.

Rnd 7a: CJ Johnson, LB, Ole Miss

Has played both inside linebacker and as an edge pass rusher. Has a very good reputation as a leader and met with the Patriots at the combine. A little undersized however at 234lbs and doesn't really have the athleticism to compensate but smarts, experience and versatility might be enough to earn him a pick.

Rnd 7b: Brandon Shell, OT, S Carolina

Good length, good athleticism. Well worth it as a development OT prospect.

Rnd 7c (comp): Keenan Reynolds, WR, Navy

If I can't have Braxton then I'm having this guy. Might never see the field but BB has to love someone who has just had his jersey retired by Navy surely.

It pains me not to have Braxton for the first time this year.

I prefer my mock above but this mock by Doug Ked at NESN is one I'd be pretty happy with.

2nd - Kenneth Dixon
3rd - Joe Haeg
3rd - Nick Vannett
4th - Joe Schobert
5th - James Bradberry
6th - Travis Feeney (was really tempted to include him in mine)
6th - Keenan Reynolds
7th - Jalin Marshall
7th - Joel Heath
7th - Stephen Weatherley (another I was really tempted to include).

Patriots Mock Draft: Running Back Addressed With Second-Round Pick

Rnd 3a: Charles Tapper, DL, Oklahoma

Can play DE and 3-tech. Versatile, and athletic, piece on the DL.

Not sure he lasts until then, although I hope i'm wrong. But some team has probably fallen in love with him based on his combine and will have them taking him a round earlier than he is projected.

Very possible. There's still some post-combine shaking out to do. One thing that might suppress his stock is the overall strength of the DT class.
