WEEI reported today that a few teams are interested in Takashi Saito.

Before Josh Hamiton got hurt, the Rangers and Sox were talking about
a Saito for Hank Blalock swap.

Hamilton may be back around the allstart break.

I would love to see the Sox get Hank Blalock
He could play 1b, 3b or DH.

Saito is 39 and had a lot of arm problems last year.

Blalock has had injuries in the past, but he is only 28.

I'd rather keep Saito. Keep the pitching strong as our offense is good enough.

I believe our pitching is better & deeper than our offense.

We have a good lineup, but an injury to Youk, Ortiz or Lowell would bring
Jeff Bailey back from Pawtucket and in the middle of our lineup.

I would rather have Blalock & his 13hrs than Bailey who was hitting far below
the Mendoza line in 69 at bats.

We have so many arms, they are talking about sending Bard down when
Smoltz comes off the DL.

Time to add to our bench.

I guess we're on the opposite ends of the spectrum. I'm reasonably happy with where the offense and the defense are positioned.

No thanks. Blalock is basically a DH at this point in time because he is so frail.

I like the fact that they have the best pen in the majors and if they do trade an rp for a hitter, I hope they can get someone better than Blalock.

Hey I would rather have a good prospect than Blalock.

Then again, I remember the playoffs last year with Kotsay playing 1b.
He killed us against Tampa. I would love to get a good bench bat
in case someone gets hurt.

I have seen enough of Jeff Bailey.

I hear the Angels are looking for a RP now that Shields is hurt.

They have some good infield prospects... Wood, Rodriguez, Aybar.

I think it is time to sell high on Saito.

I would hate to see Bard sent down when Smoltz is activated.
The kid has done a great job and he should stay with the club.

i would like to keep the pitching where it is. the sox lost last year because beckett was hurt period. it had nothing to do with the bench. if becketts healthy the sox win.

Becket's injury did kill us in the playoffs.

Then again... we lost 4-3 & Kotsay started 7 games at 1b in the series
and had no rbi's.

No rbi's by a 1stbaseman in a 7 games series is pathetic.
Even Varitek had 1 RBI vs Tampa.

See I said something nice about Varitek.

Hey cupofjoe,
Tek is second in all star balloting for a catcher; pretty amazing to be honest. All kidding aside, his divorce took a toll on the guy last year to say the least..........

Tek is hitting like .230 isn't he?

Trade Saito before his should implodes. He's a mop up guy on this team, and while pitching depth is important, the Sox have enough arms, but not enough depth. When Jeff Bailey is your replacement bat, you probably could use some depth. Who's got pop on the bench for the corner spots? If Saito weren't a health concern, then it might be different. I just worry about him lasting a full season. He never had the should repaired, and opted for therapy IIRC.

There is no better argument for why allstar selection process should
be changed.

How did Tek start last year allstar game over Joe Mauer???
Joe Mauer who won the battle title and the gold glove last year?

How could someone vote for Tek over Joe Mauer?

Joe Mauer is the #1 catcher in the AL & Victor Martinez is #2.
Tek may be a good game caller, but his defense/arm is not that of a
Bench, or Sundberg behind the plate.

i wouldnt want this trade.. the key to winning the world series isnt having another bat, its having the best 4 man rotation and a deep bullpen.. i think right now we have both and theres no reason to trade any part of that bullpen.. i think Penny has to be our major trading piece because we are so deep at SP we really dont need him... with Smoltz coming back penny can go and we will be fine.. If smoltz doesnt get the job done because of his injury or whatever we have buccholz dominating at triple A and he will be ready to come up if needed.

Well today is the 4th of July and Saito value is not what it was a couple
of weeks ago.

With Lowell out of the lineup, the bats have gone silent.
Kotsay and Bailey are not the answer.

We should have traded Saito for a bat.

Did you watch todays game?

Saito.... lol

It's an interesting mentality when posting after a reasonably quiet outing.

blah blah blah. this is the first series they have lost in a month.

Saito for Blalock...... And you don't want to do it....

Blalock with his 19 homeruns playing 1stbase & we move Youk to 3b.
Lowell is probably my favorite Sox player, but he is not the Lowell of
old in the field.

Blalock would have the 2nd most homeruns on our team.

Saito... Is 39 years old and he is behind Bard, Delcarmen, Okajima, and
Masterson on the depth chart.

I heard Peter Gammons saying that the Sox were in love with Adrian Gonazalez from the Padres. Could you imagine trading for him and moving youk to 3rd. Holy SH!T

Saito is near retirement.
We need a replacement for Lowell.

I would love it if the Sox could get Adrian.
