Which knaws at you more? last night NFL Network torchered me with that thing again. Up 21-3. the Bears waiting. Up 34-31. The defense wilts.

At least last year we got there. We took our shot. The Giants beat us fair and square.

There is no way the Patriots should have lost to the Colts in 2006. We were better. We were up. Would have KILLED the Bears.

    ok....im alright now.......

The Colts game stings much worse, we freakin had it and folded plus on the 2nd to last drive the refs let Brown and Graham get pulled down without throwing a flag after they had flagged Brown for offensive PI and Hobbs for defensive PI earlier in the game.

Believe it or not those games are indirectly helping our '08 team. We stocked our roster with a lof of offensive talent after the AFC title game loss. Now that talent is helping our backup QB find his legs. We (finally) started the youth movement on D after SB42 and I'm glad to see a lot of young guys contributing this early in the season.

Personally I think because of SB42, this team is still driven to win the Super Bowl, even with Cassel. If they had gone 19-0 last year I don't think the players would be as committed to a Super Bowl run with a backup QB.

I'd say the colts game hurt more at the time, but the superbowl still haunts me, I still have delusions of assante picking off that pass or AT sacking Eli on 3rd and 5.

On a lighter note I too watched the nfl replay of the game last night, I forgot how hilarious Reche Caldwell looks haha

As a Colts fan that AFCCG was about the most amazing game I ever saw. At halftime I was numb. I could not believe it. I think I almost passed out in the 4th quarter.

And yes we all pretty much knew whoever won the AFC was going to likely beat the Bears. The NFC was bad that year.

THe AFCCG loss bothered me, but I got over it. The SB loss was much much worse. It still bothers me to this day. It makes me sick just thinking about it.

    Other similar surveys coming soon.......

    * Would you rather lose you left nut in a snowmobile accident or your right nut in jet skiing accident?

    * Would you rather chop off your left ear with an axe or chop off your right ear with knife?

    * Which superbowl loss did you enjoy more '85 or '96?

    * Would you rather get knocked unconscious by being hit over the head with frying pan or suffer 3rd degree burns from hot oil?

The Super Bowl loss hurt more.

The Pats were so close to not just another Super Bowl title, but PERFECTION. I was in shock when they lost that game.

The AFC Title game loss hurt, but not as bad because the season leading up to it wasn't as incredible as the '07 season was. When the Pats lost to Indy, I was pissed, but quickly shrugged it off. The SB 42 loss disappointed me for a while.

I was more upset after the Colts game but the Super Bowl is the one I replay in my mind more. Bottom line, they both sucked.

I actually felt much worse after the AFCCG loss to the Colts, although that probably had more to do with the circumstances in my life at the time. I get sick to my stomach thinking about either of those games, although the SB 42 loss really made me realize just how spoiled I had become with the Patriots. I haven't taken any of our wins for granted this year.

The chronology of events plays a big part in how one "felt worse" than the other. Since the AFCCG happened first and blindsided me (21-3 late in the 2nd felt like a safe SB41 trip at the time), I got a rude awakening as to how wrong things can go. By the time SB42 rolled around, I was braced for bad things to happen. Even moreso considering how the Pats struggled against San Diego two weeks prior and the way the Giants game seemed like a continuation on that theme, as the Pats held on to a tenuous 7-3 lead for most of the game until the bottom fell out in the 4th quarter.

    Regards,
    Chris

P.S. On a related note and as a Sox fan, game 6 in '86 will always feel worse than game 7 in '03 despite the arguments about how "at least the Sox could redeem themselves in game 7 in '86". Since '86 happened first, by the time '03 rolled around, that choke job was just another instance of "same old Sox".

P.P.S. Since this thread has 1 star, throwing some Sox talk into it should keep that rating well intact ;)

The Superbowl loss was a lot worse for me. By far.
Although the 06 loss to the Colts was pretty horrific too.
I wont go into details or why... it just hurts too much.
May this thread rot in the pits of hell.

Isn't it crazy how different things could be?

We hold on vs. the Colts and take care of business vs. the Bears (not guaranteed, but I'd like our odds... although I did vs. the Giants too. -.-), and finish off last year vs. the Giants, we are looking at 5 SB's in 7 years and having a very strong argument for the best dynasty EVER along with the best season EVER. Doesn't it suck knowing we were two end-of-game-drive collapses (and a helmet catch) away from that.

But to answer the question, as far as the actual GAME goes, the Indy game was worse. The shock of blowing that lead, I was devastated initially after that game. The Giants game... you could tell from the first drive that it wasn't going to be easy, and besides the helmet catch, we just got beat, we didn't blow anything. I wasn't as upset about the game itself. But as far as long term, the Giants game will always sting much more because of the history of it, that was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I moved on from the Colts loss after awhile, I don't think I'll be able to move on from the Giants loss.

I'm surprised that anyone would think the Indy loss was worse. Not even close for me. The Super Bowl was a historic flop. Teams lose leads, but going 18-0 and losing the last one...to a team they already beat...to achieve greatness never before imagined...

Again, not even close for me.
