Ward just had to hold his own mini holdout last offseason to squeeze a 4 year $25M deal out of his conservative defense matters run first Steelers. He got $10M in bonus/guaranteed money and it represented the highest ever for a Steeler player. He just turned 30 and is their Superbowl MVP. If you think Deion is gonna get a better offer than Ward from the Rooney's you know what it feels like to do crack!
All these teams have basic philosophies and most grapple with retaining their own home grown talent long term. That is why just as we let Givens walk they let El walk. If they could get Deion for a song on a short term basis I'm sure they would jump at the chance, but that is not the case. He is looking for more than most teams are currently paying their existing #1, plus upwards of first round draft compensation or it's equivalent, and on the eve of the season that would be a hard sell in any locker room even for a team with an entire off season and camp to assimilate it.
I'm sure the Patriots have done their due diligence in assessing this one week market.
