Just thought I would do the dishonor of opening up a ridiculous, yet inevitable thread that is bound to be posted by the end of the day. The thread will surely be started by someone who, lost in all of the excitement of a huge beast (well, more like a huge pig) being on the trading block, while the Pats are thin at defensive line.

The argument will run something like this:

-Most of the guaranteed money has already been paid on his contract, so he'll only be making 5-6M per year for the next two seasons

-We could change our entire defense to a 4-3 and have an absolute mashing machine in the middle with Wilfork and Haynesworth.

-The Patriots can turn around a disgruntled veteran like this, ala Corey Dillon and Randy Moss.

I'll even shoot down the arguments in advance, in anticipation of the later threads.

    -No (10 characters).

-You're smoking crack to post this.

    -Dude, just shut up.

-Haynesworth is the biggest trash in the NFL. This isn't the same Patriots' locker room, and Haynesworth could care less about winning.

-Washington's asking price is too high.

-He doesn't fit into our system, and he's whining about the 3-4 as it is. We'd have to restructure our entire defense for one huge problem child.

    Did I miss anything?

It would be a disaster to put a player in a 2gap system who will ignore his responsibilities and team objective to give himself a chance to make a big play.
Our defense is about discipline. Haynesworth is about doing what he wants and making the other 10 guys cover for him

The Patriots play in a 3-4. Haynesworth wants to play in a 4-3.

The Patriots play a 2-gap "passive" line. Haynesworth wants to 1-gap and get upfield.

It's just not a good match, despite Haynesworth's skills.

So he has been a trouble maker because he is upset he is in a 3-4, two gap defense. And people want to trade for him so he can be a trouble maker again in a 3-4, two gap defense? Where is the logic in that?

He's going back to Tennessee if he goes anywhere.

Well with certain provisos and contract lettering to his agent to enforce, he is better than Wright and Gerald Warren, is he not? If you look at the Skins roster, he is starting RDE not NT.

A short leash and a chance to prove he is not an anal pore might work as we should be a little desperate. We wiffed on way too many decent FAs we could have gotten or reasonable trades. The F.O. created this problem.

I am not aware of him being a locker room cancer on any Team he has been on. It's management he irritates and Jeff Fisher could control him. Shanny can't but with Cutler and Marshall being a pain in the butt, maybe Shanny does not have that talent. Just thinking.

Yep, I take him with a clause that says one pout and he is gone.

We have our own idiot in Mankins. Maybe force the deal with Mankins and a Skins top choice (2nd?) for Haynesworth. I would have to take that deal. At least Haynesworth didn't call out Snyder. How is Mankins the better dude? You tell me? At least fat Al is in Camp.

If you are all happy with Wright and Gerald Warren as your starting DEs, good luck to us all.

Yes, but only if Brady and Mankins are locked up. It would play really badly in the locker room if a total a-hole like Haynesworth comes in while quality Patriots like Brady and Mankins are fighting for every nickel.

Think of it this way, is Haynesworth better than Brace, Pryor, Deaderick or Love? Yes. It all likelyhood he is a hell of a lot better than the starters Wright & Warren.

It would be nice if tha Patriots had one disruptive player on defense.

Yes! Chuck Norris would be very unhappy with that trade.

How could anyone be upset if the Pats traded for Haynesworth? Our defensive line is poor and needs improvment and depth. What does Haynesworth add? Improvement and depth. Maybe he doesn't fit into our system perfectly but he can be fitted in.

A player who does not fit in perfectly usually gets paid minimum salary and is relegated to special teams or the practice squad.

Oh, OK. My bad. Wouldn't you be several monkeys that eat cheese and possibly share a collective consciousness, though?

If you like coming of age stories it's a good book.

He has a name I recognize...so hell yeah. Also, it's not my money...so hell yeah. In all seriousness, our D line is weaker than it was last year when Ray Rice just rolled by 'em...play after play. No way G Warren can go 40 plays a game for 16+ weeks. AFC East is a running division. With a rookie ILB, a newbie at OLB, this could get very scary. I am in the "little faith" group. Watching Hard Knocks and Jenkins just busting up plays vs what I have seen from our frontline...not even close. Haynesworth for a 3.... a 2? Didn't Dillon cost a 2...for 1 great year and a year of...not so much.

    My Jersey:

There would be if he wasn't a bad fit for the Patriots no matter how "good" he appears to be.

He complains. He refuses to play in 34 defenses. He refuses to listen to his coach. He cares more about going for highlights rather than playing where he needs to be. He has sat out practices with either his ego or questionable injuries as his excuse. And worse yet he is everything that the Patriots DO NOT WANT in a player.

He is a great defender, but he is a terrible fit for the Patriots. He may seem like a great addition but the expense and the drama that comes with it is not worth it in the short term or long term.
